I’ve always admired Japan and have often felt homesick for a place I have never been. But I am absolutely shocked at some of the stuff that I found while researching this video, and I’m a bit annoyed I didn’t bookmark it. I found pages upon pages of creeps being arrested for indecency with minor children.
I'm still upset about the whole thing. I had only discovered that anime a few months before the author was exposed, and already I was so deeply fallen in love with the Ruroni Kenshin saga, like it had always been a part of my childhood. The whole ordeal still hurts me because it really was a genuinely good, pure & inspiring story that really stood out to me, quickly becoming an instant favorite. I want to watch it again, but still haven't been able to bring myself to. It sucks so much. I really hope Japan gets their act together. Their flippantness over the gravity of this kind of crime is beyond disturbing
After I heard about this, I immediately dropped him as my favorite artist, even above "Akira Toriyama." Now my new favorite mangaka is "Hirohiko Araki."
I'm not new to the anime community but I learned about kenshin author crimes when I heard what that the author of act age was a pelo (I know how to spell the word but I heard it mess the video ratings up or something like that if I spell it out)

I didn't' read the manga buy the manga etc i did not directly put money into this sick mans pockets. I can enjoy the anime for what it is, animation and a good story thats where it stops for me. But i will never but anything from the man even the anime i wouldnt pay to watch either no bluerays etc.
I will always have memories of Rurouni Kenshin. But I cannot do the whole "separate the art and the artist". Celebrating art made by predators is an indirect, but still significant, form of enabling. Other artists can come around and give us content that is just as good. He should be replaced. His era should have ended when this happened, no doubt about it. Ah man, I had the biggest crush on Sanosuke as a kid. Little 12 year old me thought he was so attractive. And Kenshin of course. I still love this series. I just feel better than ever pirating it. lol no shame for pirating from a creep. Also, some very successful anime artists started out making (or also released) doujinshi on the side. Good side hustle.

Reasons being, is its failure directly impacts the hard working keyframe animators behind the movie that put 80+ hr weeks for pennies in order to make the movie come to life. They have no connection with what the original mangaka did nor do they deserve the outcry of bad press for it. Fact of the matter is hoping it fails doesn't hurt the creator bc he was already paid for the licensing rights etc in order to produce that movie to begin with therefor it failing financially likely has 0 effect on him but does directly effect those animators who put alot of work into the movie and could potentially look poorly on their resume's when looking for future employement. So its fine if you dont want to buy a ticket to the movie or buy merch or dvd sales that could potentially help the creator indirectly etc but maybe consider pirating it and enjoying it for what it is, an animation. Yeah, this was brought to my attention not long ago. I enjoyed Rurouni Kenshin, particularly for the Samurai X film when he was an assassin. When I got Ghost of Tsushima, I had one of Jin Sakai's outfits resemble Kenshin as closely as possible to match Kenshin. It's a damn shame when artists doing well in their careers only to ruin it for material that can't be forgiven. Then again, it's what happens when you're in a position of power and can get a slap on the wrist, although good luck on distributing your work if CP is on your name.

Even if what Nobuhiro watsuki did was not at all acceptable. I think he realised his mistake. He should be back and atleast people should allow him to write the manga and finish it. Afterall he is the original author. There is no fact denying that. In life, we all should be given a second chance. Every human makes mistakes and nobody is perfect. Not you, not me nor anyone is perfect in this world.
While you may have some valid points, it is statistically proven that most people that offend with crimes such as these will do it again. This isn’t as simple as mistake, attractions aren’t mistakes in my opinion.

They are wrong for what they did but put things into perspective I would rather sit in a room full of previous offenders of such who have paid their debt to society than a room full of people who have murdered someone or killed anybody a killer has a higher chance of repeating than any of those and taking a life is far worse.

The decision to keep enjoying something who's creator is a pervert is up to each individual. But you don't know that, so you continue to use the same bank teller, or in this case watch an anime. When it comes to the value or enjoyment, knowing or not knowing verifiably, does not have any meaningful impact. It's almost like it doesn't matter. You still need to use the bank. You could close accounts and go somewhere else, and maybe the branch manager is a pedophile in secret. What difference does that have on your bank account? How does knowing a pervert made a work of fiction, make that work any less good than it was before? My point is, if we start putting everything under a microscope we are going to find that damn near everything we enjoy in life is tainted by the crimes and sins of someone else. This doesn't invalidate his crimes, and I'm not suggesting he didn't do anything wrong, but under such a depressing lens we're eventually going to run out of anything to enjoy. To clarify, when we separate art from artist, we are acting as a defense for the art itself, not as a defense of the artist. This viewpoint is about protecting art. Kenshin is still a good character even if his creator is not.

The stuff he had was legal to own a little while before the fine, everyone got a deadline to get rid of these magazines/dvds or they’d get fined, he didn’t and was fined. In contrast with another author more recently who touched underage girls without their consent and his series was axed and he was given jail time. Not to truly defend Michael but he only ever settled in court to move on from the subject. There was never any solid evidence and he was never caught in possession of materials containing children. While I sure can’t prove that he’s innocent, I also cannot prove that he was guilty either. There is a MOUNTAIN of evidence to suggest that the case against MJ was simply a Media Witch Hunt for financial gain, as well as testimonies that’s could not be validated due to changes in the statements that did not line up. Again, this is not to defend Michael Jackson, but to purely state that there was a lot of conflicting information in that case. There should be an international law against notrh-american "defending democracy", which it's just an excuse to drop bombs around the world, for instance. Michael Jackson didn't died in prison just because he was rich. The same reason why north-american laws only put in prison crack users when they're black. It's not a matter of evidence. However, my opinion of japans laws on CP hold little to NO relevance on laws in the United States. Laws in the United Stated in relation to sex crimes against children are equally as bad, and in most cases those offenders walk away as well. To air my point, Japanese Law against CP and sex crimes against children are much more lax by comparison, but both are bad. I’m curious though, why are you going to such length to defend this issue? There’s a stark difference in your comparison of Watsuki to Jackson. Watsuki was caught with CP and a significant amount of it and at most paid a fine. There was no lengthy trial. There was no media campaign admitting that they stood to lose money if a guilty conviction was not found. Why are you defending this so diligently? I never understood Neon Genesis, even after I read and watched videos explaining it. Seemed super convoluted. Death Parade is my fav anime.
It is very convoluted. However the “remakes” are really good, add some additional content not in the originals, and explains things a little better.

Not to truly defend Michael but he only ever settled in court to move on from the subject. There was never any solid evidence and he was never caught in possession of materials containing children. While I sure can’t prove that he’s innocent, I also cannot prove that he was guilty either. There is a MOUNTAIN of evidence to suggest that the case against MJ was simply a Media Witch Hunt for financial gain, as well as testimonies that’s could not be validated due to changes in the statements that did not line up.
Again, this is not to defend Michael Jackson, but to purely state that there was a lot of conflicting information in that case. If you’d like to know more about it, RazorFist has a pretty interesting 3 part series about the MJ case. He’s here in RUclips. It’s worth watching.
@@_Mourning_ I can prove that laws are different in different countries. You can't just judge japan by american laws. There should be an international law against notrh-american "defending democracy", which it's just an excuse to drop bombs around the world, for instance.
Michael Jackson didn't died in prison just because he was rich. The same reason why north-american laws only put in prison crack users when they're black. It's not a matter of evidence. It's just hypocrisy.
I don’t need proof that laws are different in different countries, sorry but that’s just a simple minded statement on your end. However, my opinion of japans laws on CP hold little to NO relevance on laws in the United States. Laws in the United Stated in relation to sex crimes against children are equally as bad, and in most cases those offenders walk away as well.
To air my point, Japanese Law against CP and sex crimes against children are much more lax by comparison, but both are bad. I’m curious though, why are you going to such length to defend this issue? There’s a stark difference in your comparison of Watsuki to Jackson. Watsuki was caught with CP and a significant amount of it and at most paid a fine. There was no lengthy trial. There was no media campaign admitting that they stood to lose money if a guilty conviction was not found. Why are you defending this so diligently? Furthermore, why would you assume that I would defend Jackson over Watsuki?

Actually I don’t. Hollywood is a know hot bed for human trafficking and sex crimes against children and adults. I’m not absolving U.S.A. of anything. What I am telling you though, is undoubtedly, the same crimes receive a lesser punishment in Japan. This is irrefutable.
