Just giving my input. I had this device too when I was a kid. When I originally got it this came as a kit. What you’re also missing is the spring. Nothing special I think any spring will do. If you open the disc lid and in the right corner you will see a tiny button and on top of that is a stud sticking out almost touch it but it won’t(designed that way) but if you put the spring in there so that when you close the lid it pushed down this button and I think you will be surprised what else it can do. Good luck 👍
@John Doe The spring is just a tool to keep the pushbutton "sensor" pressed, so the disc keeps spinning and you can perform the swap trick in unmoded consoles Kinda antiquated nowadays.
@@wilmarmarquetti9766mine came with instructions that I lost a long time ago. If I remember correctly a screen comes up with options to play import games. But there are different versions on this mod. I got mine from a coworker in 96. Haven't seen him in over 20 years.
I have one of these. I should dig it out because for whatever reason, the action replay I had, you had to leave the disc lid open for it to work, but in order for games to spin, there is a little button the lid would normally push down when its closed, so I had to rig a pen cap between the disc lid, and onto the little button so the psx thought the lid was closed...can't for the life me remember why I had to do that crap lol.
Nice video these where about in the 90s just a few years after the PlayStation one got released if I can remember right there was a small spring that fitted on the cd stray spike on the inside which pushed a small button you first started the console with a boot disc and once it showed the ps one screen you popped open the tray and put in your copy that you wanted to play wow this takes me way back im in my 30s now lol
I used to have one of these on my Playstation back then, It was a purple one, it had 256K. Your's is 1M! And it looks like it's almost empty, almost no cheats. I would connect the parallel cable to my uncles computer, and I could copy more cheats to it from the liner. I filled all 256K with cheats. My had a option to view the files of the game, and look at the textures or the movies. It also let you play the VCD movie discs on the playstation, but it wasn't very good, we used our sega saturn for this, it did VCD better.
That port is an very old COM port (or parallel port) on pc's. Which one connects external drives, printers etc. It's to upgrade your action replay device.
Hi I have a problem which I hope that you can help me with. I have a PS1 model number scph 5552 pal and it works flawlessly and if I install my blaze Xplorer FX cheat cartridge into the parallel I/o port it boots up and lets me select cheats and starts my pal final fantasy 7 no problem with cheats activated. But it will not work at all ever with final fantasy 8 or final fantasy 9 it just gets to a black screen. I can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong the console works 100% the cartridge works 100% eg with final fantasy 7 but ff8 and ff9 will not boot with the cheat cartridge installed but they boot without it. The console is pal and the games are pal and the cartridge is pal ??????
Hi james the thing on the back of the action replay you will need to look up SP230 RS-232 with parallel port. this was the modern day usb this was well before the usb born . Ive just found this out for you hope it helps you get the action replay loaded up with files 👍
Some of these devices also allow you to play burned games or out of region games. Anyone have a good device that works and is cheap. Not talking internal mod chips. I have done that before
I have 3 different. 2 Xploder small and Big and one who Looks the Same as yours but more modern and Witz more Cheats. Ivcan usw the Last to Play Backups with a Spring
If it lets you play burned discs, then it should let you play NTSC-J discs as well. It probably just bypasses security checks and gives the system the green-light to run whatever software is inside.
The action replay device you have there, how many games are preloaded? Are you able to load more games/cheats to it? I bought one few days ago and I'm thinking now it could be a waste of device if I can't use it.
Just use something to keep the lid open and the sensor boton down, when you turn it on wait for the original disc to stop spining and swap it for the back up and press start game. Thats it.
@@justinhazelip9099 I don't know how the action replay works, all I know is that it only works on PS1s with the parallel port (the back port) but I think you gotta get some Action replay codes from some website and then add them to the thing somehow (another comment on here said you can plug the white connector on it to a computer, but that connector is pretty old and no modern computer has it)
No you need to flash unirom onto it by doing a swap trick with a burnt cd with the files on it, bare in mind this will remove all the cheat functionality from the cartridge

I've had one since 96. Was able to play a few import racing games on it. Still have my original PS1.
Is there any trick to play import games on your ps1 with this action replay? Or is just plug it in and insert on the console the import disk?

It’s a serial port on the rear.. if you had a scanner or dot matrix printer it used that parallel port or rs232.. I feel ooooold
Can it play imported games? I want to buy a copy of Jumping Flash but us copies are too expensive
I guess so..he mentioned it plays burned games so I will assume it can play Pal,NTSC,JAPANESE

You can use this to Boot burned cds with a pencap to keep the tray open while still pushing down on the switch that makes it think the tray is closed
I have a PS one that’s a bit different but also doesn’t have that put on the back, also the power button is different is this model difference
Some of these devices also allow you to play burned games or out of region games. Anyone have a good device that works and is cheap. Not talking internal mod chips. I have done that before
Yeah this one does.
Tech James can you do a video on that procedure sometime? Usually need a spring and disc swap technique
Wow! What a luck. It's in Italian, just for Italian users like me :D
So if this will allow you to run burned discs, can it play the Unirom disc without the swap trick?
Thanks Nice clear tutorial!
Can somebody tell the music at the beggining?i know some kind of rap music but but i forgot somehow..
It just doesn't work. What am I doing wrong. I press start with codes. Is it that you have to start from the beginning to activate codes .

The last good Action Replay modules were the ones that allowed you to find your own codes with the memory scanner and all that.
Hans Brackhaus mine did that. I had a black one with metallic flakes in it.
@@johndavies4644 I think mine had the flakes, too, now that I think about it.
Black, yeah.
With a little switch at the side?
Does this work to play Japanese PS1 games?

You can also use it like a softmod to play backups, etc.
Really?
How?
Just use something to keep the lid open and the sensor boton down, when you turn it on wait for the original disc to stop spining and swap it for the back up and press start game. Thats it.
My PS1 doesn't have that port at the back, so i can't do it. Would I be able to do the same cheats using a PS2 with freemcboot?
You're better off using the disc version of the GameShark

Does it work on ntsc/japan models?
