    • @tuxtitan780
      @tuxtitan780 7 дней назад +4

      @Wanqer the building was uninhabitable, so it wasn't just cosmetic damage, and to repair all the damage was so expensive that it was more worth it to just blow it up and replace it with something else.
      Also the demolition was paid for and carried out by the company who owned the tower, Hertz. No tax dollars were used

    these comments are actually frustrating me. if you don't do your research or if you don't even live in swla, please don't leave rude comments. but this building has been sitting there for a year, and they have been taking all the usable glass to recycle, so it's not wasting. also there is another hurricane coming, and although not a big one, any hurricane would probably have a big impact on this building. so instead of have this building flying through lake charles, scattering glass everywhere. and the people standing there were there at their own will, and the news station offered an online opportunity to watch it, so the people going should have brought their own gas masks. hope this addresses all unkind comments toward lake charles 😁😁

  • @zakiducky
    @zakiducky 7 дней назад +25

    That’s just about the most wasteful kind of demolition. With the growing shortage of quality sand for glass making, the glass should’ve at least been removed for more efficient recycling.
    The metal frames of the curtain walls are also extremely recyclable. From there, then explosive demolition would’ve been _way_ less wasteful.
    Still, though, there’s a lot of valuable stuff to reuse, recycle, or otherwise salvage inside. The problem is that it isn’t economically viable for the owner to deconstruct the building in a sustainable manner due to labor costs, and they can’t just last randos in to take what they want for liability or regulatory reasons, depending on where you are in the world.

    • @adrianthoroughgood1191
      @adrianthoroughgood1191 6 дней назад +2

      If the structure of the building was unsafe they may not have been able to salvage things from inside. Perhaps they could remove the glass from outside but that might be too expensive. I agree it would be better to require more recycling, but the owners will do it the cheapest way they are allowed to.

    • @MollyCloud-u8c
      @MollyCloud-u8c 5 дней назад +2

      i'm assuming you don't live in swla, but if you did you would know that they have been removing the usable glass for about a year now, and an explosion would have destroyed the buildings around it, bc behind the building there is a whole town, so an explosion would be silly. no hate just letting you know ❤️
