- The Hertz Tower, formerly known as the Capital One Tower, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, was imploded nearly four years after it was damaged by both Hurricane Laura and Delta. The storms left the building uninhabitable. #CNN #News
I will NEVER NOT BE AMAZED at how they do that! 🤯
Why they took down a whole building down over cosmetic damage, is tax money overflowing that good?
@Wanqer the building was uninhabitable, so it wasn't just cosmetic damage, and to repair all the damage was so expensive that it was more worth it to just blow it up and replace it with something else.
Also the demolition was paid for and carried out by the company who owned the tower, Hertz. No tax dollars were used
@@Wanqeryou really found a reason to complain about this comment. You must be miserable.
Isn't that one hell of an insurance claim
The cloud of smoke is full of pollutents!!😮
Doesn't matter

Yeah, at least wear a mask or a good particulate filter respirator!

these comments are actually frustrating me. if you don't do your research or if you don't even live in swla, please don't leave rude comments. but this building has been sitting there for a year, and they have been taking all the usable glass to recycle, so it's not wasting. also there is another hurricane coming, and although not a big one, any hurricane would probably have a big impact on this building. so instead of have this building flying through lake charles, scattering glass everywhere. and the people standing there were there at their own will, and the news station offered an online opportunity to watch it, so the people going should have brought their own gas masks. hope this addresses all unkind comments toward lake charles 😁😁
That’s just about the most wasteful kind of demolition. With the growing shortage of quality sand for glass making, the glass should’ve at least been removed for more efficient recycling.
The metal frames of the curtain walls are also extremely recyclable. From there, then explosive demolition would’ve been _way_ less wasteful.
Still, though, there’s a lot of valuable stuff to reuse, recycle, or otherwise salvage inside. The problem is that it isn’t economically viable for the owner to deconstruct the building in a sustainable manner due to labor costs, and they can’t just last randos in to take what they want for liability or regulatory reasons, depending on where you are in the world.
If the structure of the building was unsafe they may not have been able to salvage things from inside. Perhaps they could remove the glass from outside but that might be too expensive. I agree it would be better to require more recycling, but the owners will do it the cheapest way they are allowed to.
i'm assuming you don't live in swla, but if you did you would know that they have been removing the usable glass for about a year now, and an explosion would have destroyed the buildings around it, bc behind the building there is a whole town, so an explosion would be silly. no hate just letting you know ❤️
Yeah, maybe they should've hired you to go remove every single glass panel for $16/h
@@MollyCloud-u8c from the video or looks like more than half the glass is still there. Do you know why they salvaged some but not the rest?
Constructing a building with so many vulnerable windows in the known path of powerful, destructive hurricanes is as shortsighted as it gets.
This is not a skyscraper cnn. Its a high rise building.
Skyscrapers are at least 40 floors. I think this building is at least 40 floors…
@@BigMike4Ever This building was only 22 floors
@@QuarioQuario54321 nahhh I took the liberty of screenshotting it and counting. It’s 53 floors. And yes, I have way too much time on my hands lol but Nice try though
@@BigMike4Ever The windows are a little misleading and this building appears to have half height windows
Semantics.
Reed Timmer had amazing live coverage from Hurricane Laura! You can see and hear the damage happening to this building!
At least wear a mask so you don't breathe in that dust!
Incredible, though.
I stopped in the comment section just to see all 9/11 truthers reactions, they did not disappoint.
Breathe deep everyone.

Wow. Very anticlimactic.
Why ?
Now breath in deep all the heavy metals and asbestos
yet another reason Florida should not have such builings

Regulations have value when you actually build in adherence to them.
Worst thing that happened this month 😬🙄

Sounds pretty American of them wherever this is from
That doesn’t even make sense. You’re literally making a generalization of 340 million people that come from all over the world….you’re so less than smart is cancer causing.
Oh man, really? 💀
That place is lake charles, la. It's better that it was demolished than see it fall over in a hurricane.
they took it down bc there is another hurricane coming, and since that building has been sitting there for over a year, we can all assume that it's not very strong, so this was the only way to keep it on the ground and not shattered all over lake charles. please research before you leave comments like this 😁
Consider less glass?
Hope there's no asbestos in that dust!
What hurricane was the damage from? I heard this was Louisiana
2020 hurricane Laura. At Lake Charles, Louisiana
It says lake charles LA at the start
Yeah right, a hurricane,,, 🙄.
Try reading the description! You seem like the type of person who ignores warnings about hot drinks being hot, & complains when they burn their mouth...
@@alexanderevanska4274 Why are you doubting it was damaged by a hurricane? Are you misunderstanding what this is? It's the planned demolition of the hurricane-damaged building, several years after the initial damage, not the hurricane.

a hurricane?
Yes Category 4 storm Laura (borderline 5) hit August 27,2020. Blew almost all the windows out. 4 yrs later they imploded it due to the insurance saying it was too expensive to fix
Take a deep breath of all that asbestos!

Hm.. that looks like how the towers came down
So that's how building 7 came down......
I am disturbed at the way people are rooted to getting content rather than sympathising with the would-be victims in the calamity
Bruh what
There's no-one in the building. It's empty and was demolished. They check these things

Yeah. Looks like a demolision...which we've seen plenty of. Only people with really low IQ think this looks like WTC.
Throw away culture
Is that building number seven?
We’re still waiting on your evidence. 23 years! 😂
A few missing windows now it’s totaled ? lol
Look it up, it wasn’t just “a few windows missing”. It nearly blew out ever since window. It was a very strong storm, which was only 5mph away from being a CAT5. It devastated Lake Charles and other surrounding cities and towns
Reed Timmer and a bunch of storm chasers were there that night and recorded the windows being blown out and apart.
Looks EXACTLY like Building 7 on Sept. 11th after no impacts and minor office fires.
I don’t like how they did this so close to 9/11…not cool.
Well I don’t think that could’ve been helped. It took them 3 months to get ready for the implosion
I thought that was building 7 for a sec
How did it damage it so bad that it had to be demolished? Like wouldn’t it not mess up the structure but just damage windows and let air go throw. At high speeds?
Well, it was a category 4 hurricane. Borderline CAT5 which was only (5mph away from being a 5).
Combine that with sustained winds and gusts up to 133mph. Hitting for 3-5 hour straight. It blew all the windows out. Look it up because Reed Timmer and bunch of storm chasers recorded the building being torn apart.
What Not Going To Do Is Just Stand Their Recording . Y'all Need To Runnnn For Your Lifeees
Reminds me of Tower 7
Wow looks very familiar how timed explosions happen huh?
Let’s hope no one was inside there . That’s crazy for real
This was an intentional demolition, aided by carefully placed explosives. Hence the fenced off area was evacuated and there were spectators gathered.
Building 7
Flash back 2001😢
Fake??
Not fake, I live here and watched it come down. Read Timmer and a bunch of storm chasers were there that night of the hurricane which by the way was a powerful category 4 storm just only 5 mph away from being a category 5.
Look it up and look up the devastation the storm caused
Eerily reminiscent of the way the WTC towers fell.
LOL. That looked NOTHING like the WTC collapses. There were zero explosions on the sides of WTC. I guess tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists just see what they want to see?
