    Addressing this here so I don't keep replying to everybody. I researched Owen heavily as one might imagine and never heard that he was carrying Davey's European belt at the time, but I'm happy to concede that I could be wrong. Although if he was carrying Davey Boy's European belt and Davey's tag team belt as well as his own 2 belts, surely Chaz would have remembered Owen - who travelled very light - lugging around 4 separate belts. It also wouldn't make particular sense for Owen to leave out one Tag Title and the Euro Title - would be more likely to leave out both Tag Titles.
    During the interview I was also fully aware that Owen was Euro Champ briefly in 1998, but since this story takes place before The Headbangers won the Tag Titles there was no point mentioning it.
    Let's just chalk this down to a mystery that will never be solved and doesn't actually matter.

      Davey Boy and Owen were double champs at the same time, so possibly they may have accidentally switched belts while on the road at one point?

      @@davidslayer The reason for that maybe, Slaughter awarded him the title because HHH feigned an injury and let Goldust sub for him. Owen beat Goldust on RAW (who had dressed up as HHH) but didn’t actually defeat HHH himself.
      Slaughter ruled that because Goldust was Helmsley’s proxy the title change was legitimate, which is what Hunter was trying to avoid by having someone else sub for him

    Mosh maybe correct as Owen often lugged around all the belts, including Bulldog’s when in transit. Davey Boy, according to Cornette, was quite messed up in 97 and Owen would’ve most likely been carrying around the IC, European and Tag titles (and Slammys).
    I’m surprised you didn’t ask Mosh about his NWA tag team title run- one of the bright spots of the I’ll fated NWA invasion angle

    • @bonlouis8808

      Very true about travelling light - although there were instances when he had to travel with a full compliment. Jarrett on Conrad’s podcast talked about how Owen hated the Blue Blazer gimmick the 2nd time around because amongst other things he had to carry around an extra pair of boots. I think it may have been a temporary situation where Owen may have had the belts for 1 or 2 takings and may not have had the other tag belt because that could’ve been left with the ring crew (for whatever reason- Bulldog was not in a good place for a few years)

      @@WSI If you do get to a Part 2, can you talk about the Superstars exclusive match the Headbangers had as tag champs, against Cornette and the Rock and Roll Express, where Cornette has to be in the ring 5 minutes with the winning Headbanger should they win (they do, but only because Barry Windham KO'd Mosh with a chair as he was going for a pin, causing a DQ, and Cornette subsequently "pins" Mosh afterward, it's pretty entertaining for what it was really). Whole thing is interesting to me, between the match itself being on Superstars only (at a time when they no longer did exclusive matches, this was only aired there cause of Steve Austin causing the match to get bumped in storyline due to a 10 minute in-ring protest on the previous Raw), and also Mosh getting absolutely WALLOPED by the aforementioned chair from Windham, to the point of being busted open. Would love to know about this match. (can see it here for reference BTW: ruclips.net/video/4l2OO8JniL4/видео.html) Thanks. :)

    Owen and Davey Boy were tag champs from September 22, 1996 through May 26, 1997. During that time, Davey Boy was European Champ from February 27, 1997 forward, and Owen had the IC title from April 28 forward. The Headbangers debuted in November of 1996, spent a couple of months as the Flying Nuns and were the Headbangers full time from January 1997 forward.
    So, Owen was IC champ for a very short period of time, and the Headbangers were full time at that point. Here’s my therory: back then, they were still taping a months’ worth of TV at once, so this may have been before the European title was public, around December or January. Owen may have had it because a) Bulldog wasn’t sober very much at that point and b) Davey beat Owen in the tournament final. He may have been hanging on to the belt to make sure it made it to the title match, but he may not have been champion.

    • @mattthomas1442
      @mattthomas1442 2 года назад

      Yeah it was definitely the IC belt cause the Headbangers won the tag belts in September of 97 so it would've had to have been before that cause I don't think Mosh and Thrash would be acting like 2 kids seeing the belt if they already held it themselves before. As far as them being full time, perhaps Mosh remembers it as them being before they were full time cause he assumes that's why Owen was with them but Owen was notoriously thrifty so he may have just rode with them to share a room with them 3 cause his other riding companions weren't on that trip.
