- Montreal Canadiens playoff hopes starting to dim after 4th straight loss?
How soon will the Habs prospects start making the Canadiens and having an impact on their playoff hopes going forward?

Brilliant idea to bring in Malkin for a year. This could facilitate Demidov’s adjustment to the NHL. He’d be a great mentor. Send this idea on to the Habs management.
you can see the despair on the faces of Dvorak's linemates knowing that offense is out of the question. Malkin is a regression. Our room is more than capable of taking care of Demidov. We have to listen to our brains more than our hearts. It will be sad to say good bye to some of our soldiers because we care about that stuff more than any other fan base. The goal is to win year after year. Tough love is required
Get DVO the helm out of here, I don’t care if the return is a 5th rounder
Get Beck up here or get Newhook at 3C
Newhook is not a playmaker that Iaine needs anyway rather see a Boullet there
Nice job shane, a very solid and relevant reason to trade for 71, nicely thought out. Thanks for a great show again guys.
Who’s Josh 😆
@DrewDekes sorry about that lol that will teach me to talk to someone while trying to post at the same time lol
Man, I love seeing you two together. You got great chemistry, I want more 😊
Thanks I appreciate hearing that, we definitely enjoy doing shows together anytime we can!
I agree. Came to say this exactly. You two are amazing together.
@@Off_Grid_Gamingthanks a lot appreciate that 🙏🏻
Good talk, Drew & Shayne! Demidov will be immediate help in offense, hopefully he thrives with whatever line they put him on next year.
I'm an old guy and former Nordiques fan. Michael Hage's style of play reminds me of a prospect back in the days, his name was Joe Sakic. I totally agree on Mailloux, if he can stabilize his defensive play, he is going to be a first paring HHL player. Reinbacker still needs to show us what the hype is about.
Hi, I am also one of those older Montreal fans. The main thing which I have learned towards the last 25 years is that "very few" Montreal prospects can live up to the expectations placed upon them by certain fans/media. They quickly think they will be great until time shows they are not. Very few 21st draft pick centers turn into NHL top6 centers so if Hage does, he will beat the odds. Mailloux may need more time in the AHL to improve his defensive game, but I am sorry, he might never be more than an NHL 3rd pairing right defenseman which Montreal still has a need for !!!
Love the show guys. Great collaboration! I realize the team needs some vets to complement the nucleus of young players, but I’m not keen on Malkin. Demidov does know some English and I’m sure he’s probably taking courses.
I really appreciated Drew’s take on the term “superstar.” The term is thrown around ridiculously by TV commentators, even on HNC. It seems now that each team has about 5 superstars, the way journalists see it!!!!
No mention of Oliver Kapanen? I think you guys might be sleeping on him. He is having a pretty good season in the SHL. Earlier in the season he even played NHL games with the HABS.
Are we really sure we have anyone any other team wants even just for the playoff push. If they can’t produce here will they fit in anywhere else?
Malkin's spent, bud.
Montreal doesn't need another big, slow guy and the top 9's already jam packed.
Wow 😆 it’s not just for his on ice contribution
Are we serious here, why would Malkin lift his no trade clause to come to Montreal to possibly get a sniff at the playoffs...I don't see that happening !!!
@ to play with Demidov. Pittsburg will rebuild as well
if losing a 4th line winger (rookie) makes this team lose part of it's identity, we really should be sellers and try for another top10 pick or a package for high draft.
It says more about Pezzetta and the stubbornness to play him, he should go down to Laval to get his ice time , physicality, conditioning to where it should be.
Bring up a Tuch or Davidson / Florian or a rotation if those 3 until Heineman gets back.
Dvorak, thank you for your services. Good bye. We wish you well.
Nice show boys!!!
Tank is back... for one more year, hopefully for the last time.
Hage probably be playing one more year in college but can't wait to see him with the Habs and of course can't wait to see Demidov next year
I don’t think he’ll go back to Michigan
@@caperboy1169 then Hage will play in Laval !!!
Ovetchkin was a total beast his first year super physical
Kovalev's stick handling was insane!
Let's stay calm about Demidov
I agree, some fans/media are drinking too much kool-aid. Let the kid develop properly at his own pace w/o putting a ton of pressure on him.
Some players have the “IT” factor right out of the gate. Demidov is one of those, I believe. I don’t think it’s pressure, I think it’s seeing what your seeing, a potential superstar. Calling it as you see it is okay. He has it.
I love the idea of Malkin/ Makes sense from a housing situation
Great show guys ! You have to put your GM hat on and realize that these guys are all the same newhook , armia , dvorak , evans , these guys have to go period ! We have owen, roy, rhp , who can do better or equal with half the salary !We absolutely need a top center for our 2nd line that is priority 1 !! Our strength is Dmen , trade one with a first rounder for malkin or a guy whose younger but just as good !
What a good idea Shane - about adding Malkin to shelter Ivanovich. Great idea. I might also add Markov as a possible solution of welcoming Demidov to Montreal. Good on you.
Yeah when he first said I laughed a bit but actually makes sense. If we don't land malkin we should atleast add another Russian player for next year
Let's relax on Fowler. His team is stacked. We'll see his true upside when he joins the organization. He won't be facing 20 shots a game in Laval or Montreal.
4 words…Stick to the plan. Buyers? Sellers? I say, HuGo have a “cost” for certain players other teams may want so if you don’t get the “cost”, absolutely no need to move anyone. I have no problems allowing this team that enjoys playing together to push for a wildcard spot. With that said, if this team is able to advance/significantly improve this team without disrupting their prospect pool or hurt their “core”, I have no doubt Hughes would not hesitate to make a deal. I would say that the areas this team needs significant improvement, a bonafide offensive 2nd line (Demidov is coming & he needs a top tier C/linemate) and IMO this team still needs to solidify their defencemen. I have high hopes for Reinbacher (future Hutson partner imo) but he will need time, I’m not convinced on Mailloux, & I wish this team allowed Xhekaj to play his physical play & use his powerful slapper more. This team needs a top 4 dman who has some NHL experience and preferably play the right side. And as much as I appreciate Matheson, I personally think he is being expected to be more than he is really capable of. If his value is high, I would not hesitate to get assets in return but if the return is low, there is no rush to move him. As 4 Shaner’s Malkin wish…I respect that idea but I personally say it doesn’t make sense…does not fit the progression Habs plan IMO & disrupt the Habs cap structure. I do not believe in the need for a fellow Russian 2 aid Demidov…I do not think Dach is that guy (I may be wrong) so it will be interesting to see what Hughes/MSL plan will be. So what happens at trade deadline? I think they will definitely make sone minor moves to help and reward Laval…as for MTL, will Evans, Savard, Armia, Dvorak move? Try to sign Evans but up to his new contract asking price, if return for Savard is good - trade him, if not, allow him 2 finish the yr with a team that loves him, Armia&Dvorak…doubt there is much of a market 4 either but maybe Hughes can pull out some magic. We all hope&want a shocking trade deadline substantial trade which MIGHT happen, but more chance HuGo wait for substantial moves in the off-season. Forgive my super long comment but as a big time fan, I always have so many thoughts on my Habs. Anyways, we will see what happens. Go Habs Go!
I usually think Shane doesn't know what he's talking about but Malkin is good add, only if he guarantees he plays next season. I would rather get UFA Philip Kurashev who is 25. Ilya mikayev to a lesser degree
Nice comment, Shades. You must have many friends.
Would love Malkin
I see Hutson getting better defensively and playing on the top pair with Reinbacher in the future… Hutson is gonna be like Quinn Hughes in Vancouver I have no doubts about that, I’ve been saying that since we drafted him and I won’t change my opinion on that… Hutson is gonna be too good offensively and he’s gonna get better defensively, Even now he’s not horrible defensively, He’s a rookie but he’s been way better defensively than i thought he would be, Guhle will end up being the second pair with Mailloux in the future, 3 years from now I see.
Hutson Reinbacher
Guhle Mailloux
Xhekaj whoever else.
Maybe I’m wrong but we will see when we get there.
I’d rather the Habs go out and get a 2nd line centre like Bennett! At least he has grit and can protect Demidov when other teams try to take liberties. Also he’s a hell of a lot younger than Malkin.
Malkin is on pace for 59 points, 16 goals… He’s 38 years old, his contract expires in 25/26, He’s making 6,100,00 per season, I don’t believe the penguins are going to trade Malkin or Crosby… BUT, Ya know what, I’m actually down for it if the cost doesn’t hurt our future, If we don’t have to give up Hage or Reinbacher, Mailloux, Beck, Then I would be okay going after Malkin… I think Malkin 100% has enough hockey left in him to give you 45+ points until that contract is up, He can Mentor Demidov, I would actually be all for this if it was available, And it doesn’t hurt the teams future… His deal expires not too long from now so I would definitely consider it if it’s possible.
Correction, Didn’t realize Malkin missed some games so he’s on pace for 14 goals, 40 assists, 54 points in 75 games played this season. But still not too bad, Sure you would probably want more, But that’s better than Dach at this moment, I think Dach definitely has 60 point potential, But I’m still all for going after Malkin, He could be a great mentor to Demidov and even great for Dach and Suzuki to have that type of guy in the locker room who has won 3 cups.
We love Matheson. Keep him. Great team mate! Yes he makes mistakes but he puts up quite a few goals and assists.
davidson is plus 18 top on the team next one is plus 12 ,
We definitely should get a Russian player for Demidov. It will make the transition so much smoother for him. Look at the Flyers and the struggle they have with Michkov because of the language barrier. So much so that they traded to get Kuzmenko. Planning ahead is a good idea
do not forget Kapanen this could be a very good player also
Demidov unlike Mitchkov taught himself English, probably not fluent but this kid will be fine. He’s more like Slaf personality wise is what I heard, everyone loves him.
Malkin, hmmm, 9 goals, 25 assists this season...27, 40 last year,...iffy, as a mentor for Demidov, not a bad idea...
Can't believe we got him at 5....
I know…blessed!
Didn't Super Mario come out of retirement to babysit Crosby, have him stay at Mario's home while mentored Crosby....by the looks of the Crosby career that was a great move.
It could be very lonely far from home in a different culture without someone to talk ti and show you the ropes.
Primeau is working hard getting his value on track ? maybe could be traded in a near future ? Fowler another goalie ??? 8-0 for Primeau if Laval have a good series and Primeau is constant like he is now good news for Kayten Primeau
With this 4 game losing streak I think the playoffs are now out of the question. This team didn’t have room to go on a skid like this… So selling at the deadline is probably the smart move, But something tells me they won’t sell at the deadline, and they will still add to show the team that they will be rewarded for making a push. The Habs have 8 games in the month of February, This team has to win 5 straight for them to have a chance at a playoff spot and I can’t see that happening. We have to beat Anaheim, San Jose, LA Kings, New Jersey and Tampa Bay for this team to have a chance, if they lose one of these games I think playoffs is out of the question… The Ottawa game on the 22nd is massive as well, If we lose to Tampa we have to beat Ottawa.
If we are sellers I would try and move Laine. It is a feel good story but he is kind of a floater and always seems out of position. Our goal production overall is no better with him in the lineup especially 5 on 5. Our power play was great with Cole on the left side. He didn't always shoot from there and others scored because he is a great playmaker too. Savard to Ottawa might be good. Close to home and Francophone schools everywhere.
Salary on Malkin? Also why trade Dvo and use last retention spot
In my books they have to try and get rid of Anderson also I always had faith in Primeau
Gotta start planning on moving forward without both Matheson and Savard. Their age does line up with our window once we are contenders. Look for younger veterans the age of Carriere moving forward to replace them
Beck & Mailloux called up
Let’s go
Keep the energy up!!!
Give these young kids a carrot
Send Pezzetta to Laval so he gets ice time, works on conditioning, timing, physicality.
Rather give Tuch, Davidson, Florian some looks up in NHL to see where they are at
I must disagree with you, Shayne, on acquiring Malkin. He is too old to play effectively. Your friend Pierre has suggested--wisely, I think--bringing in Andre Markov as an ambassador, who could play the role of Russian mentor.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO BUYERSSSSSS FFS Guhle hasnt played a full season since he was 15 with all the buss going on right now time for Kent to hop of vacations and actually earn thatg money
Buyers why? Stay the course
@@caperboy1169 stay happy with mediocre gameplay
Owen Beck can be Demidov center ?
Unlikely, IMO. Beck will likely be given the 200-foot third-line centre role; Demidov will likely be on the first or second line, IMO.
This is a childish comment, to give him an over the hill Russian center and believing that the language is the issue, is pure stupidity. Rather hire him a english teacher. No separate language groups in the team. Evgeni Malkin is over the hill, the Habs should not go with the down slowing veteran, they need a proper skating center, to bring back the "Fire wagon hockey" the Canadiens were known off.
I would try Reinbacker if possible in lieu of Ghule. Put him with Hutson and let em cook!
He barely just started skating again, won't see him for a while
Wake me up when the payers they're looking to move include Dach and Newhook. They've been *huge* disappointments and failures.
When this rebuild started the hope was that the Habs were gonna have a great young defense. At this point that doesn't appear to be the case. Bergevin brought in all of these defensemen, Jordan Harris - now traded away, Mailloux - the jury is still out on as is Struble, Guhle is injured half the time, Reinbacher - who knows if he'll ever make it and its beginning to look like they may need to make some trades or draft for defensemen again but it looks to me like they are behind where they should be. I think instead of going after Malkin they should try to trade for Letang a Montreal native. As long as their defense is this weak they will always have offense problems. I don't think any team will trade for Dvorak, maybe a third round pick at best. I wouldn't mind seeing them bring back Romamov from the Islanders. Anyway you look at it there's still a lot to be done. Keep up the good work you guys!!
letang's contract is until he's 41 it will quickly become an anchor. Otherwise I agree we really need reinbacher to become a stud because the bulk of that giant prospect pool at D is looking mostly like bottom pairing guys.
Are you on that clueless?
First see what is available for the players that don't fit the program. Anderson (who I like) is overpriced for a checker. Armia and Dvorak , same deal. All have some value for the Habs now but not enough moving forward. Savard could be dealt and if he wants , resigned in summer. He's a mentor to Arber. I'll let the management figure it out. Malkin, no thanks.
A gold mine of great information fellas! Thank you!😊 Mick🥅🏒
If you sign Malkin you by trade Laine
Get Matheson out of here please
I don’t look at his defensive flaws, he’s supposed to be an offensive defenseman
It’s his offense or lack there off and momentum killing that is hitting this team.
Shots into shinguards
Passes into skates
Turnovers at the blue line
Unwatchable !!
Just like DVO
The team has been winning despite them not because of them.
For 3 years I have been saying they have to toughen up. It's still not happening. We need at least 3 more grinders on this team and I don't see it happening because our management group don't know how to compete in the playoffs! No Stanley Cup in sight for many years, if ever!
Brutal take, on their winning streak they were punishing teams physically.
Choosing to play Pezzetta 4-5 minutes and cycling t through players hasn’t been great for energy.
Team has looked tired, I like their size.
Bring up Tuch, Florian , Davidson on 2-3 game stunts to keep energy and tenacity up
I’d like the Habs to go after Joshua in Vancouver
Big body, Left shot, GRITTY, can score perfect for bottom 9
Send DVO and a pick
Or Newhook
Stop only looking at stat primeau 8-0 cant save a puck
I love the Malkin take regarding the russian mentor for Ivan.
malkin has full no move and overpaid...the theory is good, but find another russian
Let go of Armia, Dvorak, Evans, Pizza, Matheson and Savard. Then let's take a step back with the young guns.
I think Buffalo is a cautionary tale to avoid exactly that. We need to keep a few vets peppered in the lineup to both end a rebuild and start competing, AND for going deep into the playoffs (not necessarily the same "kind" of veteran's presence for both of these stages, but you know what I mean eh).
Dvorak and Pizza, sure, but for the former he still have what, 1 additional year after this season in his contract (or 2?), we will need to give out something to get rid of his contract, unless we wait for UFA status...
@@Unholy_Louie yeah but our youth needs to play. And buffalo is a joke of an organization. Ottawa and Detroit had veteren players and are still a joke. We have Suz, Caufield and Hutson, let's build around them. We still will have Gally and Anderson as veterens. On defence, we have Mailoux, Engstrom and Konyshove, we need to make the play.
replay of buffalo never ending rebuild
Great video guys with information that we need going forward ! 🥅🏒🏹⏳
Methinks Habs fans are just over anxious. I get it. Great things around the corner. #25 is there..gotta go get it. And it will seem more realistic as more players step up...already started. 🏒🥅🚨
We definitely should get a Russian player for Demidov. It will make the transition so much smoother for him. Look at the Flyers and the struggle they have with Michkov because of the language barrier. So much so that they traded to get Kuzmenko. Planning ahead is a good idea
