Ha-Loved your reaction upon discovering that hidden fruit. That's what is so great about gardening....always surprises!
Yes! It's been a few years since I have produced Bitter Melons so I was quite happy!
Great video! Just got my seeds today! cant wait to start growing these!
Lol! Your profile name cracked me up! Yes, they are great melons!
That is a great result for a UK grown melon, I was surprised at the depth of the flesh - something that many melons lack. That looks a fantastic melon, I ordered the seeds of the other melon that you showcased, I will try that one next year. Short season needs to be the emphasis now that the Solar Minimum has been acknowledged. We will experience more erratic weather, more extremes of all weathers - and that will pose challenges. I already start off plants indoors for the shorter season here.
That type of melon looks as if it would vacuum pack well. Not sure how it would fare frozen, so if you have a glut you could afford to vacuum pack some rindless slices and freeze them. I know some people hate plastics, but they do play a part in preservation.
Other melons are not of interest to markets as they are not patented. The best example of that is Pink Lady apple and all the legislation and requirements that conserve that variety for its owners. It is important to preserve the old varieties, the benefit of a non F1 being that we can keep the variety going by harvesting its own seeds; its heritage shows that it has proven its worth to our ancestors.
Dan, you are brave getting excited about that bitter melon, it looks somewhat primitive in its evolution compared to even the gherkin! Thanks and enjoy!!!
Allsorts to do Vox. Look up Cripps Pink...if one can get one. The issue is they need about 200 days to warm weather.
I'm growing ogen melons I have little flowers atm but I think it's to late in the year for them to ripen here in Ireland. Great video Dan .thanks and best wishes from your neighbour's across the Irish sea
It is getting late in the season now. Im sure you will do well with them next year. Melons can be tricky.
Good result! I'd be interested when you've tasted all three varieties which you liked the most in flavour from this year's project.
Cool. So far I intend to grow varieties all again next year. I will probably try and up the volume a bit. I enjoy growing melons!
Goodness me! I know that feeling.
Yes!
Petit gris de Rennes ça pousse bien chez nous
Bonjour!
Hello Dan great harvest
Cheers Dwight. Great melons in Honduras I trust?
Yes Honduras is one of the top melon exporter
What varieties they export there?

Cantaloupe ,galia, yellow honeydew, Italian cantaloupe, piel de sapo
What growing zone are you in? Im in the states, trying my hand at charentais this year and some more traditional melons. I watch a lot of British gardening for the greenhouse/high tunnel info in freezing climates, and no dig methods. Brits have more long term experience, I believe (and are perhaps a bit more honest).
Climate is different but temps and skills are very helpful!!
It's a year later... how are things growing??? Favourites?
Not to bad, not a good melon crop I think this year but a lot of other stuff is doing well.
USDA zone 8b.
Hi Dan, I would like to try this one out next year, any chance of a few seeds?
Hi Dave. Due to time budgeting I cant get into things like this but I got mine from here. realseeds.co.uk. Take a look.

What’s your favorite melon? Thanks!!!
I do like watermelons so regarding UK grown watermelons, Blacktail Mountain would be on the list.
