Over the top EXCELLENT turtorial! Another ID50a sold :) Now tell me this, obvious I'd think. Soon enough I have to drive to Minnessota. I know my route/which cities I'll be going near or through. So I follow your steps and I'll have access to repeaters the entire journey. Fantastic. My 5100a can do this but it is my inside the house base station. Too bad my traveling 2730a doesn't. A man might need two 5100a's in his life. Thanks again for a fantastic tutorial.
happy kitty ! mine does same thing . Repeater book not always correct. same hear in NY . CHIRP uses repeater book as well. still great to have when traveling around . 73's
How do you scan the nearby repeater list? I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this. I have the repeater list saved on the sd card and I can pull up nearby repeaters using gps, but can’t figure out how to scan them.
Exceptional video for learning your radio...... I still haven't found a setting that would allow the change that just occurred for Daylight Saving Time to be automatic on my Icom Id52.. Only solution was to manually adjust UTC offset . Have you found a way ? Do you adjust your radios twice a year? N8OHV
Thanks for this help. I always wondered how those radios work ...as a truck driver I drive coast to coast I'm looking for a radio that I can input channels and then as I travel around it searches out nearby repeaters. I'm looking at the icom 5100 ...is set up the same as this handheld? I would be interested in seeing, a video on how to download channels and how it searches them by Gps
With my older ID-51Plus I edited the downloaded both files like you show, but then edited a .csv to contain both DV and FM but only the Texas repeaters, with a few in Arkansas where I have family. Customize your .csv
Is there a limit to the number of entries/repeaters in the CSV files. I noticed the files I downloaded for an ID52A+ had about 2348 repeaters in the list.
Yep. Works for a lot of Icom radios. The menu and file structure should be the same. It's the same on my 705 as it is on my ID-50. The 52 is no different either.
Is ICOM really that good? I am new and I'm currently on TGIF network using a Retevis. I would love to have a nice radio that has this function. But is it worth it? Like an everyday radio? The repeaters in my area are a little quiet.
Icom is one of the big three: Yaesu, Icom, Kenwood. These are the best brands for ham radio, and they all originate from Japan. Icons are still manufactured there, and yes, they are much more expensive than cheap Chinese radios, but In my opinion they are worth it.
I was going to mention this in your last video, but it appears to not work correctly anymore. The problem I run into is it's not a complete list based on location, even using long/lat. I need the north east region and it would only include the islands, south, and midwest, and end there, none of which I need. Almost like it was just spitting out the full list up to your memory limit. I know it used to work because this is how I loaded my ID-51 and ID-31 a couple years ago.
Yeah, it's certainly not a complete list at all. Better than nothing though. Some have said you can get a list from RepeaterBook. I haven't looked into that yet, but I'm sure it would be better. I wonder if this is only Icom repeaters?
I can't see based on screenshot of CSV file. Is it listing GPS coordinates for each listing? I was wondering if this file can be edited to add/remove repeaters to suit ones needs. I will try to open up a file also to see if this is even worth doing. Too bad the link you shared didn't have a distance setting. To narrow the search to not include ALL surrounding States.

On the download page, adding a few “empty slots” is there so you can add your hotspot info in the CPS

You can scan nearby repeaters and as you travel it will scan the ones in the area. It is neat to see new repeaters on the scan as you drive.

Love this HT. Thanks for the video.
The *.file versions are Apple data files. Just have to either ignore them or use terminal to get rid of them!
yeah they are used for spotlight.
There's a setting in Finder that allows you to show hidden files (this is off by default).

good info about the mac
Good one Mike. Thank you.
You bet!
on my IC-7100, I manually entered gps coordinates. When i press near repeater it says none found. Have any ideas about that?
Is this your everyday radio? Do you use D-Star?

Keep up the great work, I learn loads from watching. KD6BOS 73
Works on the 5100 also.
Also works on IC9700.
I would never have guessed the DR section would let you search for and access FM repeaters. Thanks for this video!
Thanks a million.. 73s W5ZM
ITS A GOOD MACHINE
You're in the log!
My 705 thanks you.
