I really needed this. Thank you. I had a stroke (unfortunately not a stroke of genius) for about 2 months ago and lost the passion for playing the piano. After seeing this video, and your wonderful sense of humor, I’m back on track again. I can’t thank you enough. Greetings from Sweden.
You have created a very funny skit with the memes and comments between the songs. The little bits of songs really keeps the whole show flowing. This has been one of the most fun videos I have seen in a long time, regardless of the context. I was laughing the whole way through, like some Victor borge skit on the Johnny Carson show.
Your humour, sometimes self-deprecating, sometimes sarcastic and surreal, just absolutely floors me, time and time again. I can't wait to play the Elvis megahit, 'Smoke on the Water' in a local kebab shop I'd never thought of Fur Elise in any different way. I would love a tutorial on that. Thank you for making this list and for making it so memorable with so much fun.
Felt like throwing in the towel today and then realized how much fun it is to play piano...thanks to your videos. I'll just keep plugging away with my arthritic fingers. Why not?
I love watching you show off! You need to show off more often! I know you have to play most songs slow since you're teaching them but I like it when you make the piano scream!!!

Good morning, I imagined a musical score with "a sample" of each piece as you play them...a "medley", as we call it in France...I bought it straight away...Michel-Henry
Thank you. My Dad made his living playing in "saloons," as he called it. That was long ago -- he died almost 30 years ago. As a teenager I got to play guitar with him in those joints in Dubai -- I lie too. Was Dubai a place in the early 1970's? If so, I never heard of it. But, we did play all over New York and New Jersey, in some fancy clubs in Manhattan, summer nights on the Jersey Shore, one cold weekend at a place in the Poconos, where I first rode a snowmobile. Anyway, I didn't want to write about me. I wanted to thank you and to say that I enjoyed hearing your cocktail music. I'll be checking out your lessons, too. Nice job on that Elvis tune. 😊
Your jazzed up Fur Elise is amazing. Normally when people try this kind of things, I always think "I see what you're doing here, but if you're gonna play jazz, you might as well let go of the original piece completely because the rhythm is awkward and the melody keeps it very constrained". But here it's not, well done!
Nice video Christian! I was a professional pianist but got Dystonia 4 years ago and haven't been able to play since. I miss it every day and still watch piano videos. Your videos are fun to watch and make me feel like some day maybe I'll try again even though I would be very limited in what I can do. Thank you for your great content and your great sense of humor.
Oh that's terrible! I learned that dystonia ruined several accomplished pianist's careers. But medicine is evolving. I heard that some even got Botox injected. Let's hope for the best...And thanks for your compliments!
Christian- you are amazing. I downloaded your index of songs. This is what I’ve been looking for forever as you’ve classified them by easy, intermediate, advanced so I don’t need to search through your hundreds of incredible videos to find out what next to practise. I’m very very grateful. Such a helpful resource.
Superb. I’d do anything to be able to play like that. I was so keen, I bought myself a nice piano, but have discovered that, at 80, I’m too old to learn !
Chris, I absolutely love your channel and this video. Any chance to get an advanced tutorial for “I wanna be like you”? I somehow managed to learn it with this video, but a tuto with your expert tips on how to enrich the harmony would be amazing. Keep it up, you’re awesome. Best piano channel on RUclips 😊
Cool video! I used to sometimes play Brother Can you Spare a Dime when no one was tipping, but I think the song was too old for people to get the message. Also, if the management wants people to get going, Straight No Chaser was my go to.
Greetings from the other corner of Germany! This video was really helpful. From time to time I am forced to play an hour of solo piano - I am much better off performing with other musicians. Solo piano comes with a couple of issues for me, but probably the biggest one is not knowing what to play with little effort. Gotta save this video for later!
Thanks ! Useful generous and pedagogical ...as usual with Christian! Could you one day make a spécial dedicated to arpeggios..runs ..tips so to get out of any difficult situation !
BTW, I love your playful approach. I always remind my son the task is to 'play' the piano, and not 'work' it. One tune he has particular fun with is, believe it or not, 'Chopsticks'. He sometimes begins with a bar of two fingers to lure them in, then flourishes into a terrific improvised jazz number.
Some great suggestions there - quite a few overlap with mine. One I've found indispensable is Tea for Two. It's such a witty piece and I love improvising it into that teasy jazz-scherzo soundworld with lots of gaps, wrong notes and trills that get stuck. In an instant you can resolve your most delicate wee jest into a stomping big-band stride. It also invites madcap accelerandos - a truly great tune to play around with. (A new subscriber.)
Great saying! Great reply (from The Christian)... to my mind came: You are too bright for these dark ages (before I read what's behind in here behind the curtain). Anyway, no need for drinks indeed if Christian is - the boss out? Seriously, I cannot imagine a lone lobby player taken on such brilliant conversational moods just doing the keyboards and reading the lyrics. Let me divorce unharmed now, thank you all, great site!
My son plays the Westin Valencia and works diligently to offer something new every week. It can be easy to forget that although guests are constantly changing, the wait staff is not, so he likes to keep things fresh with new material. He has also learned the international translations for many of the 'must know' tunes; for instance, do you know what they call 'Fur Elise' in Korea? My son had no idea when a sweet Korean couple requested, 'The Wedding Dream' but he took a wild stab with the Beethoven staple and sure enough, that was it!
Super nice tutorial. I just found it by luck and love it. When I learned that you are in Berlin, love it more 😍 may I learn whether you play somewhere? I would love to come and listen
Hi Christian, I love what you do and THANK YOU for being such a great teacher! Also I would LOVE a tutorial (and some sheet music to work with) for a jazzy bluesy Pour Elise. I'm still pretty much a novice to Jazz Piano but just got your sheet music for Willow Weep for Me and am thoroughly enjoying it!
I stopped rinsing my mouth after brushing my teeth this year based on my dentist's recommendation - supposedly keeping the paste on the teeth for longer strengthens the enamel and prevents cavities?
I nearly got sacked for playing Girl From Ipanema with "too much rhythm". The restaurant manager asked me to play it and other tunes completely without any rhythm. Imagine that! It left me dazed, and almost unable to continue with the weekly gig. Finally, I found a compromise that worked, but I learned that just because they book you as a jazzy cocktail pianist doesn't mean they understand or value your music and its essential component - rhythm. I learned to play the rhythms more by innuendo than before, when my rhythms has been more comprehensive. The thing is that you don't need quite as much rhythm if you're playing solo or accompanying a singer - not like if it were a band.
Thank you Christian! Great video and content! I really like your style. I’m wondering about your walking bass line, left hand technique. Any tips on how you choose what to play/focus on? I’ll search your channel to see if you have any videos on this. Thanks!
