The food content matters. IIFYM was meant to add some flexibility to dieting by allowing small amounts of junk , but most people misinterpret it and think it is a license to eat nothing but junk.

He makes a point. If I eat 1200 calories of burgers vs 1200 calories of chicken breasts and white rice.. with the burgers I feel completely lethargic. Where as with chicken and rice, unless I'm eating more than 1200 calories, I don't feel lethargic at all.

Advice from the golden era bodybuilders is probably the best. They had the best physiques! They weren't just big and bloated with bubble guts. These guys like Lee had wonderful physiques that is what the new guys need to get back too.

but Lee macronutrients or "macros" is protein carbs and fats those are the three main...those will equal to how many calories you should be taking in depending on your body goals

So this is my opinion. I think that IIFYM works IF AND ONLY IF you eat clean foods. You can still use IIFYM but eat clean foods as Lee was explaining.
And the answer to "if you're cooking the food do the macros change?". Yes they do and that's why they have different macros available for raw and cooked variations. In general raw is more accurate and consistent because different cooking times and methods can vary the weight of the food (largely due to fluid absorbsion or dehydration).

I don't think lee understands the concept of iifym lol. Everyone does it bodybuilders included. Iifym doesn't mean you eat whatever you want. You just set an amount of carbs, fats, protein for the day and eat in order to fulfill those macronutrients.

20% trash in the diet or less works best. If I start going to 1/3 or more my diet in candy cake or processed or fatty crap foods I get ill feeling and energy loss.
