      @@GVS Are you planning to make a video on optimal number of set/reps for each muscle (or already have one?). I feel like not a lot of people cover this topic. For example, delts are better trained with more reps with lower weight than lets say chest (less reps with high weight). Also, how's your chinese? Any tips on that for beginners?

    If you squat/deadlift consistently enough, all jeans are skinny jeans.

      When I started lifting, my goal was to have regular jeans fit like skinny jeans, and I'm almost there!

      So true. I wear relaxed fit jeans and they are always snug. But if I get a bigger size, it looks terrible.

      I wish they were skinny all along atleast lmao. It's always skinny on the thigh and below the knee basically bootcut it looks silly that's why I don't wear jeans.

      How are the lower body arms growing fellas? I'm currently a bit above and below 25" on my left and right thighs respectively, hoping to add an inch at least by years end

    😂 I’ve destroyed a few of my suit pants at the worst possible times w/ the seam in the rear busting wide open because my legs grew too much. Great progress indicator, but bad for embarrassment.....

    I'm 6'3" and 240, quads are 30" while down a little in size since I haven't been training in a gym for a while. It's a blessing and a curse, I'm glad I don't have trouble growing my legs but I practically wear shorts all year around.
    As for how I got them, high bar squats, front squats, and RDLs have been staples in leg training. I've taken a more minimalist approach to lower body training and it worked pretty well.

    I added 80lbs on my squat & 110lbs on my deadlift during the entire lockdown.
    Garage gym gainz...
    Skinny jeans are just not possible anymore.
    Funny thing is, since I never had to wear those in the lockdown, as soon as uni reopened, I realized ALL my pants are loose from the waist but tight from the thighs. I now have to buy oversized pants, & wear them with belts to fit the waist.

    I'm 6'3 and I only been training legs good for about a year and im at 25 inches now. I've been training very hard in the last 2 months and I can definitly see them grow very fast.

    Great video. One thing I feel as though a large Majority of people fail to know is that every body’s body composition is different. Your frame, bone length , way the muscle wraps can be be why someone else gets better results than you from a movement even when you do the best form.
    Learn what your body likes and I think that will take you far .
    I personally mainly use leg extensions and they blew up my legs compared to when I would squat 3 x a week

    Adductor workouts saved me after a parkour injury. I feel like they're really important if you do anything dynamic

    I realised that I don't need more info on how to train legs - I'm good at squatting and I know how legs work. That which I'm not good at yet, I have the knowledge to learn with. However, I enjoyed the standards part of this, just as I did with the arm video. It's nice to hear realistic standards, where it's not to where this fairly early intermediate dude, yours truly, seems to have higher measurements than the proposed max for most naturals, nor are the standards so high that even the top bodybuilders (and strongmen etc.) are struggling to meet them. It's made me appreciate what I am, who I am, and what I've done, and value it higher, without feeling like I've basically already done all my growing. I only started watching you the other day, but I'd heard your name before. Good videos overall. Not sure how you feel comfortable living in Chenjen, but to each their own.

    I definitely feel my adductors when I squat... If I overdo it, they're the first area to really start complaining for me. Kinda wish I had access to a gym with a machine so I can catch them up.

    I started working out in 1954. At that time it was considered standard to measure the thigh midway between the knee and the hip. I think that today some are measuring their thigh higher up to include more of the adductors which can give a larger measurement.

    I don't like leg exercises lol would go without them but they're important, will probably do them twice a week hitting the mid range set goal per week. I also just wanted to say that your book is great, definitely found some movement patterns that I've been neglecting and will be adjusting my volume to better reflect my goals.

    Well, I’m 5’5 tall, ~140lbs and 12% bf, my legs are 22 inch. That looks descent on my frame 😅😅 about 2,5 years of training

    I work out at home and was struggling to figure out a curling movement for hamstrings. I ended up strapping on some ankle weights and doing standing leg curls and this actually worked pretty well. Just make sure your ankle weights are on the heavy side and you'll get a nice burn, I usually work in the 15 - 18 rep range.

    I love squatting and my legs are currently sitting at 23 and 3/4 inches, but I’ve always had a small frame at 5’10, but I’m relatively proud of where I’m currently at, but I want to aim for a nice 25” in the near future.

    Leg training used to suck when I was over training. Now it's one of my favorite areas to train. I make sure I'm able to function after working them. When I saw Kai Greene do splits at dang near 300lbs that was a wake up call I was over working legs.

    You can get big legs with one squat day and one deadlift day per week. I personally prefer going ham on both once each in an 8 day cycle.

    I think a benefit people don't talk about is that legs are such a huge muscle group, training them will help you get that lean 'beach body' look since more muscle mass = more calories burnt.

    "Leg training sucks, and if it doesn't suck you're probably doing it wrong". . . or perhaps, for some, it doesn't suck because one just never acquired a weird aversion to moving heavy weight in a manner that best translates to athletic power production and general physical prowess. Doing squats and heavy lifts from the floor aren't always going to put a smile on one's face but, if one is going to choose weight training as even simply a "fitness endeavor" they do for life, the attitude of "leg training sucks" is -- at least in my opinion -- going to have to go away. These are the heaviest lifts one is going to do in the gym. Squats & DLs are going to far exceed any weighted horizontal/vertical pressing or pulling movements one does, and unilateral leg exercises are going to be loaded well above what one does for "isolation" exercises of the arms & shoulders. If one is going to lift for health and long-term physique maintenance, they'll probably have to lift for life; and it is going to be damn hard to keep that going if one can't see the heaviest lifts in one's program as the most enjoyable lifts. . . or at least as amongst the most enjoyable lifts. On a session-to-session basis, you don't have to always like training legs but, for the most part, one should learn to look forward to training legs and should almost never think in terms of "leg training sucks" (my opinion).

    The struggle of pants not fitting is real😭 I recently went back to the gym after a couple months off and within 3 weeks, all my pants stopped fitting comfortably. It's so difficult to walk properly now lol. I just need to get bigger pants but it just shows how big the legs can get and how quickly they can grow.

    I just checked and i already have 26 1/2 inch legs ..NATURALLY. I train them 4 to 5 times a week but I KNOW I can add at least 3 inches on them though NATURALLY, so far I only eat 2 1/2 meals a day and don't take ANY creatine, so when I do start packing on the size I'm very interested to see what I'll reach💯

      How fat are you? How do you know you can add 3 inches? Outside of an initial burst of intra cellular hydration creatine only provides improved results over.long periods of time if you do.respond to it

    Yay I'm 22"...and 6'2" mostly made of legs.. so above average and all I do it bodyweight and mountain walking... Although I've not trained for two months due to injury... So fingers crossed for 23" when I get back to it! Thanks for the info. Good info on the form, sadly for me a mountaineering injury means no weighted squats for me.

    Before ever starting lifting I rode my bike a few thousand miles a year for a decade and got almost 24" thighs. My adductors were absolutely massive. Its so hard to find pants that fit and all the rubbing means they wear out sooo fast. I've had several embarrassing crotch ripping experiences. Now that I'm doing squats and deadlifts for the past year I'm approaching 25". I'm finding the biggest benefit in explosive power like jumping and leaping over stuff. Plus I can crush objects with my thighs as a party trick

    Great video! Personally, I have recently seen my best quad growth ever with ATG front squats for high reps. I used to move some big weight on the low-bar squat and leg press, didn't get good growth but because I'm training at a home gym I'm getting creative, and getting gainzzzz

      What's the maximum you use for Squatting at home.
      I am at 40 kg after 3 months consistent 2x week, always doing higher reps to 20kilos. The 1st set/20 is OK now, and with the 6th set yesterday I came close to failure at 20 reps.
      I can go up to 46kg max with the weights I have, but before I go there I want to stretch it with 1 to 2 kilo's per 2 weeks (gyms still closed), still going for noobies gains. Strength is definitely up, i could Squat friends at least 2 times weighing around 70 kilos years ago not being as fit so I think I could test it at a higher 1RM. But do you have any tips or give proper expectation of muscle growth, i dont think strength is really my issue.

      @@SAsaiyajin I only have 80kgs, I do some days sets of ~15 with 80, some days of ~20 with 70. I also do lunges and pause squats for similar reps. I always tend to go pretty much to failure, you have to push pretty hard to see growth out of light weight. I think you could get a few more reps, or probably even get 20 reps with 46 at the minute, and I say go for it. Push your progression until you can't hit the all your reps, that's how you max out noobie gains

      Ait thnks. I always go to failure, atleast that but always keeping proper form. Yesterday I've noticed less heavy breathing overal with all sets, though difference is that mostly I train after work in the evening and yesterday I was free, took a nap so I think my energy levels was also at play making the session more manageable.

    Hey Geoff, I’m a huge fan and I have your training book and I love it(thanks!). The other day at the gym, I noticed a bit of shoulder pain on the top of my right shoulder, I’m assuming the rotator cuff, I’m currently using heat ice and rest to counter act this shoulder pain, what do you recommend to avoid a shoulder injury?

      If it's the top, it might be AC rather than rotator cuff. Depends on a ton of factors, usually focusing on load and volume management as well as technique are most useful, as well as correcting any imbalances, usually a rotator cuff or scapular weakness.

    No bs I had TWO of my dinner chairs break (the metal frame under the seat snapped completely) while sitting on them and I ripped a pair of jeans under my glutes while putting on my socks in the same week... I think I'm overdue for a cut

    Another great video. I think I see something different in the mirror than what is there. Just measured my legs at 24.5 & I always have thought I have thin legs. No matter what I’ve done they have looked the same to me. Calfs now are at 16 & I’ve always been embarrassed of them.

    Well damn, I recently measured mine at 27", which is fucking crazy given I've trained for just a few months shy of 2 years, and grew them from about 25" after I started training again last summer after corona season.
    The crazy part is not where I'm at, but where I've yet to go. Squatted 4 plates for a solid 7 last week, so I'm finally ready for that big 500! If I keep this up I can get on the record board in the college gym in no time!
    General leg exercises which push me hard are really fun, since they get my blood pumping with adrenaline! My gym has a hack squat machine, so I should do some heavy volume on that to keep growing these massive tree trunks!
    There's a reason why I generally never wear restrictive pants like jeans or dress pants. Mainly because they're uncomfortable, as they constrict airflow and motion. Not good for my legs, and especially not good for my man package! That's why I make sure I wear comfortable underwear, and always wear shorts, sometimes with sweatpants over them if it's cold.

    If ur a guy that stands 5.6 to 5.11, then 27 to 28 inch quads are achievable naturally. Only and only if ur squatting in ranges of 225 to 405, in simple terms twice ur bodyweight for reps, high volume, 20 rep squats, heavy loads, and last but not the least ur nutrition should be spot on and also ur recovery.... and ur wrong about saying that u dont need big legs!! See paul demayo, guy had the sickest physique of the 90s, also basic stuff like squats, front squats, and hack squats thats it. Nothing compares to squat. Also if ur squatting with heels elevated, work on mobility.

    Huh! I’m starting back to a fitness program and I’m starting at 23.5 in the quads. I’ve always carried more weight in my legs. 5’8” tall and I looked fit at 165 lbs. I went down to 162 and I looked anorexic in the face. Right now I’m VERY sedative and starting to get back. Friday I walked over 10,000 steps for the first time in a long time. Legs are not sore, but the butt is! It’s Sunday and I’m still sore! I saw your video on recovery and it looks like the best thing to do is walk it off... 😀😀😀. I think I’ll take a nap instead. Thank you for your real life, informative lessons!

      @@lyft4238 if you look at the BMI tables, we should be 140 lbs! That is so unreal for me! My goal right now is to lose 10 lbs. (I’m currently NOT at 165 lbs.). And after I lose 10, I’ll review.

    I USED to not get sore in the butt and hammies from conventional deadlifts until I started doing Trapbar and RDLs, theeeen I could actually start to feel my butt squeeze and here we are, deadlifting so comfortabley I'm to the touch and go ones (not like Im tapping it but only a short pause)
    Also its weird, like my first rep set up can sometimes be rough but once I place the bar back down I'm in perfect position, which is why I like the touch and go method.

    Is it good for quad development ??

    My legs are about 23” at 5’7 161lbs.
    Conventional Deadlift Max : 495
    High Bar Squat Max: 380
    I have a strong lower body and gorilla glutes, but leg diameter could be better. I think if I pack on 2 more inches to my legs then I’ll be satisfied. Don’t want my legs getting too big and destroying my symmetry.

    Video motivated me to actually measure my (I thought) okay-not-awesome legs. Feel pretty good about a solid 26in on each side (surprised at how even the measurements are) with basically no BF on my legs. 5-11, 200 for context.

      Honestly use it as a time to maybe cut bodyfat since caloric intake will be low and you won't be at your best to lift heavy.

    If you're going to talk about thigh size, you also have to mention height. A 24 inch thigh will look bigger depending on whether you're 5'8 or 6'3.

    The problem with big legs is that virtually every fashion brand wont fit. A brand of trousers I will recommend is Ralph Lauren Whitman trousers, a nice pair of classy trousers for swoleness.

    I'm a 26 year-old man - 15/17% body fat. I'm an Ectomorph/Skinny Fat and facing Chub Rub.
    Waist = 84cm/33 inches (measured a little below the navel height)
    Height 5'9 /1,75m
    Weight 150 pounds/68kg
    Calves = 37.5cm/14.7 inches.
    ---- Thighs (upper thighs) = 57-58cm/22-23 inches (measured in the thickest part 29cm/11.4 inches above the knees)
    ( Middle part) = 48cm/56cm (measured 20cm up knees - above the knees)
    (Lower part) = 43cm/48cm (measured 11cm up knees )
    OBS: I got these thighs/legs measurements without even have worked out before. I worked out for three months this year, and I jumped to 24-inch thighs and 38-inch calves without a "poor diet".
    When I stare at my legs (because some people have pointed it out) I don't think they are that big. I can wear slim fit jeans 28 tight - 32 well-fitted (It depends on brand of course)
    - Would be those measurements too much or well above average for a 5'9 tall/150pounds-not-buff guy?
    I really don't know why I got those measurements. The only thing I do different is go rollerblading sometimes on the weekends. I've been doing it for one year now, but never regularly, and there are 5 months since the last time I went out for rollerblading. 160lbs would the be better weight for my BMI. I'm under it, and I still have this measurements. I wonder if I gain 10 pounds.

    Here is my natty 20% body fat measurements. 19.5" about 1 inches above the kneecap. 25.5" mid thigh. 28" upper thigh. My calves at 18.5" with 9.5" ankles. Not that my big legs mean anything. I am a good hiker, I can max out (260 lbs) the leg extension machine for 20 reps, 6 plates for 4 on a seated calf raise machine, and do 15 nordic curls (not on the same day as the calf's), but I'm not really a good squatter or deadlifter. I can probably just do 315 for both. Granted I don't do them heavy since I have lower back issues and won't until my back is perfectly healthy and my form is in good shape.

    Im 225lbs 6foot tall, around 20% body fat and my legs are 67cm ( around 28-29inch? I think that's the right conversion). They have always been pretty big and long, I have never trained legs more than once a week. I'm on a cut, went from 115kg to 100kg in 4 months and looking to get to 90kg ( around 200lbs I guess). I hope my legs will look more "defined/leaner"

    That's crazy, my legs are 26. I'm not super low body fat but I've always had really jacked legs even without training. (6ft 94kg, my smart scales say 16% BF but we know they aren't super accurate)
    17 inch calves, trying to bring my arms up to the size of my calves but it's going to take a while!

    So the hamstrings are barely worked in squats, leg presses, and lunges since the length of them barely changes due to knee flexion shortening them while hip extension lengthens them. So the net effect of both those actions is no significant change in the muscle length of the hamstrings so I’m not really sure why you mention them as being worked in these exercises. They are worked slightly in an isometric fashion but in no real significant way to create hamstring muscle hypertrophy.

    Rich Piana used to talk about his quads and that he didn't have to train them because like he said what most people don't think about is the muscles get used doing the other exercises simply by carrying the weights.
    Now for these measurements you gave are they height limited or is it for any person no matter the height.

    Is it fine to hit legs once a week? I currently train 4x upper lower. My legs have developed nicely but I absolutely despise training them. Would it be okay to hit upper body 3x a week and legs just once?
