I was really hoping for a Bianca win. She looked great out there and really stayed with Iga. Exciting and competitive.
So far she hasn't been able to remain injury-free for any long period of time. Not sure this can change.

My god.. Bianca may not have won, but I hope this is a huge confidence boost for her. Her winning a grand slam was no mistake. She’s a top player and hopefully she’ll have a break out season this year

She doesn’t have what it takes to win another Grandslam. She played defense for the most part and her balls weren’t deep enough to cause Iga any concerns. She’s not the same player as she was back then. She should be improving not the other way round

Andreescu, like Nadal is plagued by chronic injury. I dont know if its Andreescu's weight or how she plays but she rarely finishes a season healthy which robs her of her full potential

Both Andreescu and Raducanu seem to be returning to good form in this tourney. Their critics forget how young they were when they first had success and that they are capable of coming back from various challenges. Iga for her part still has work to do when her opponents aren't intimidated, but she stayed strong for the win. That's something she has struggled to do recently against good opponents like Rybakina, Krejcikova and others, so I was glad to see her toughness again.
I couldn't agree more with you 😃. In order to be a better player, Iga needs a strong opponent that put her under pressure though. Glad to see her win the match. Hope she can defend the title.

@@agawolak Iga clearly has the capability to dominate on the tour, and yes, she's young, but that's how it goes when you're #1. Everyone comes after you and adapts to your game. Now it's up to Iga to respond. She is capable of beating everyone on tour - she just needs to believe in herself, etc.

It's great to see Bianca Andrescu in good physical form and motivated. She adds a lot of value to the tour. Overall, very good, fun and high quality match. I'm looking forward to more matches between Bianca and Iga. They can make one of these generational rivalries that make WTA interesting.
There are a lot of very good players right now. In any other era these women would have been the best.

Disagree. Krecijkova is underrated by most. She has the most complete game--much better defense, better net game. And solid baseline go toe to toe with power hitters like Iga or Sabalenka. Slice, spin, open the angle very wide. There is no joke she beat Iga twice . Illness is not the reason or excuse. Tennis is about containment the other player’s strength and causing problems for them with your solution. No need to inflate Iga. She is not perfect. Her game is simple and effective against most opponents. But not against Barbora
I forgot to mention, Barbora is perhaps slightly mentally more stronger than Iga. And her came under pressure is more consistent.
At last a tough opponent for 1ga.

I would argue that Iga won't be at her best again until she's challenged - like this - so that she is forced to dig deep and be the tough resilient player she was in much of 2022.
0ga hasn't yet met the toughest challenges, as with Elena, Barbora and Aryna. Maybe even Jessi and Caroline can give her trouble, or some of others who have moved on.
@@markuse3472 Maybe they can but they have problems with others players like Kudermetova, Pliskovą, Samsonova or Bencic and Iga doesn't have that problem, she can beat everyone in best shape, event without it she dominates not like others. I think only Pegula is really solid but Rybakina, Garcia, event Krejcikova often looses before quaterfinals. For me only Iga, Jessica and maybe Aryna are players which can play and win without best shape and are consistent and great all time, and the true champion should be just like them.

Iga did lose to Bencic and WOULD BE a "problem," and there we go again with Iga's fans trying to think...in best shape, Aryna, Barbora, Elena and maybe others would beat Iga, as Elena just did it again. Iga passes to finals because they have fixed things, the draws, for her to win generally easier. They see and know who can threaten her, even those lowest ranked in majors, and place them in the other half-draws so they destroy each other and she has a better chance to win.

A very good match that had so many nice exchanges. I think Bianca was chasing too many balls. Her defense skills are masterclass, but all that chasing wore her out. Bianca has that childish innocent cuteness, and she is really fun to watch.
Her weight (or muscularity) may have contributed to her tiredness.

What an ardous clash! It points out that there is a vast revival in the dynamism and mobility of Andreescu. Moreover, the resilience of Andreescu was really in high level in order to withstand the blistering assaults of Iga Swiatek. I believe that Andreescu will be more robust in the upcoming periods of 2023 season. It isn't a huge loss for her. It is a different step which was taken by Andreescu. Moreover, Iga Swiatek has demonstrated a more perseverant and resolute performance than Andreescu. She played more unwavering in some rallies. It is a magnificent glory for Iga! Even so I would like to congratulate both of them along with thier tussles on the court!
Both players played superb. It wasn't so easy for Iga Swiatek to win this match. Bianca Andreeescu proved why she is grand slam champion herself. Iga was smart. She made Bibi chase all those balls and completely wore her out. Bibi getting 1:0 break lead in the first set and 4:2 break lead in the second set was unreal. She played some unreal tennis, but so did Iga Swiatek. And this tiebreak was the proof that in last year Rome Iga simply outplayed Bibi in tiebreak too. Congratulations Iga Swiatek on winning this match. I truly hope that Andreeescu can stay injury free and start winning tittles, because she has what it takes to be a champion. Go win this tittie 1ga Swiatek.

Great match, good strategy from Iga and good fight from Andreescu. Not bad from coming back from injuries and ranked in the hundreds less than a year ago, and now already at top 30. Just need to work on her stamina in the future and she can be a contender again for titles.
Iga may not have won this match smoothly, but she seemed to have it under control all the time. She kept playing like she knew she was going to win anyway.
Not sure I agree. There was a stretch, where Iga was sending those balls into Kingdom come and lost her precision.

Great match! Bianca had her 4-2 in the second and let Iga back in. I was really hoping Bianca would win the second and they would do a third set. The wind played an important factor also. Congrats to both players for an exciting and competitive match.

Bianca had 40-15 at 4-2 in the second. At 40-30 Swiatek mishit a ball and the shank dropped in for a winner. It changed the entire forecast of the match, and frankly was quite lucky given it was a mishit. Oh well, that is tennis sometimes.

Great match, great highlights! Good play by both! It's a matchup that has a lot of promise and offers many entertaining rallies, as we could witness in this match and in Rome last year.. hopefully Bianca gets her ranking up too, so we get to watch them play in later stages of tournaments 🙏 always a pleasure watching them go at each other like this ⚔️
Nie oglądałem pierwszego seta, ale w drugim kilka razy otarłem się o zawał. Niektóre błędy, które popełniła Iga, były niewiarygodne. Przegrywała wygrane punkty. Bianca Andrescu więcej punktów zdobyła po błędach Igi, niż po swoich zagraniach. Uff... Najważniejsze jest zwycięstwo. Oby ten mecz okazał się kryzysowym w wydaniu naszej gwiazdy...

Jakby Iga tak zagrała z Sabalenką czy Rybakiną to niestety ale była by porażka.32 niewymuszone błędy Igi, aż trudno uwierzyć jakie piłki wyrzucała poza kort.

So happy to see Andreescu playing well here. Who knows what would have happened if she could have stayed healthy after her US Open win. Players come and go, but I was particularly disappointed when Bianca fell out of form. I hope this is the start of something great for her.

Andreescue is back in a big way. This was a great test and confidence booster as Roy pointed out. Just a bit of bad luck that Leylah and her having to clash with the incredible Iga and Garcia so early in the tournament. Yeah, proud Canadian here 😂

This was an entertaining match but in the end just proved how superior Iga is to the rest of the field. At her best, Bianca is a determinedly talented player, but to defeat Iga she has to constantly work to find those oblique angles to win her points. Iga's quickness is unmatched in the present game, and she takes balls so early that it will always be an uphill fight for the likes of Bianca. Andreescu CAN fend her off, and can make headway in points, but ultimately, as seen here tonight, she would only ever triumph in a match where Iga's game is just flat off off, or some biorhythm thing is at work. Binky looked like the new flavor in WTA in 2019, but those days are gone. Only Ashleigh Barty can save us now from the Swiatek dynasty.
No more love for the Krejmeister? Anyways, if Andreescu had her 2019 1st serve prowess it would have been a much closer match. She only had about 2-3 good first serves. Her fearless, no holds barred serving under pressure ability is almost nonexistent nowadays. Also Bianca the 2nd serve eater couldn't capitalize on Iga's weak second serves. She had plenty of opportunities last night. But even without her easy power and how she was chasing balls and on the defensive, it wasn't a terrible result for her. She was overthinking on her returns too much last night IMHO. I also just read somewhere that her coach said she's putting in more time working out than practicing tennis at the moment. Hopefully she's trying to regain her 2019 strength again, because the words Andreescu and power are no longer synonymous these days.

@@tomekmiskowicz9687 This is probably connected with contract between WTA and Indian Wells Open - tournament organizers have exclusive right to one point, which they pick from entire match. WTA can use it later, after some time (few days). So we can expect these points in tournament reel video.

There have been many one-slam wonders in recent years, but Andresscu shouldn't be one. She clearly had talents and hard work ethics, it's just that she gets into too many injuries.

@@annajakl3450 Jak inne tenisistki mają słabszy dzień to nawet nie walczą tylko od razu przegrywają a Iga nie dość że się nie poddała i nie straciła pewności siebie to mimo że nie wszystko wychodziło wygrała 2:0, to nie sztuka wygrać gdy wszystko wychodzi, sztuka to wygrywać właśnie takie mecze jak ten.

Swiatek's forehands have so much top spins and they're hard to return.
Imagine a tour with the current Iga, A healthy Raducanu, A healthy Bianca, a confident Kenin, an ostapenko with a good attitude, a post pregnancy osaka who cares about tennis. The WTA would be booming with star power.
You omitted a lot of good women tennis players. The WTA is booming with great tennis players. Look at where the top ten players of a couple of years ago are today. That should tell you how good these players are. More countries are producing top players than previously. A few years ago we never heard of a tennis player from China for one example.
@eren jaeger8011 I didn't mean to neglect Li Na. My point is there are many Chinese players now where just a few years ago there weren't as well as other countries.

Tough match. Iga asked for a test so her wish came through.. Bianca's high balls are a bit irritating to watch and to play but that's how her defensive skills work..yet this is an exhausting style of tennis and may cause more injuries in the future. Glad Iga wrapped it up in straight sets. Reminescent of their Rome encounter although this one was a bit tougher

I miss the Andreescu who dropshotted her way to her 1st IW title in 2019; she was a beast back then and had this "i'm-the-best-out-here" aura, which she has lost since then. Hope she finds her mojo again.

endless cycles of injuries, coming back without fully recovered and getting injured again will do that to you. she just needs to have a healty and consistent stretch.

Great to see Bianca enjoying herself in the match, and even happier to see Iga under some situation. She clearly can't settle her forehands well consistently, and that's okay because she has the time to improve. By the way, great slices of Iga, but the volly skills are still poor.
It was windy. It’s tough to hit winners
hopefully a deeper run for andreescu in Miami, she should be seeded for the French open, keep improving that ranking and I think she’ll hit top 10 this year, she got no points to defend
