    I think this G is easier to play initially, and easy here, but the other with fingers 2, 3, 4 makes for some much easier chord changes sometimes. For example, even though I'm a beginner, I don't have any trouble going from G to F because I decided to learn the other fingering for G. It wasn't easy at first, but it was worth it. G to C is much faster, too. And it's easy to play G7 as well. Just a suggestion. I love your videos. You are probably the clearest teacher for beginners on youtube.

      +Kilgore Trout that works too yes- tough for beginners though!

    • @kilgoretrout3966
      @kilgoretrout3966 8 лет назад

      Good point, in the beginning, i was only on open chords, and i didn't like capos, because they were a barrier that id bang my fret hand into quite often. i guess id call myself and advanced intermediate at this point...ive been working up the solo for this song for 2 days now, as you will know, it switches between Major and Minor scales. Some parts are simple, some are finger cutters!
      Thanks for the mention, and keep up the great videos, i teach beginners at my home studio, and i try to emulate your easygoing, fun approach.
      Cheers!
      -trout

    • @kilgoretrout3966
      @kilgoretrout3966 8 лет назад

      i was speaking for beginners. Those are simple chords, not the ones that Wendy Melvoin played. i know how the LP version is played. The solo is in the Mixylodian mode, both in Major and Minor scales. It could all be played with the capo, should one choose, but it wouldn't be the correct way, and would, obviously sound different. For beginners, you could even play the same shapes without the capo, but, of course, it would sound flat and even more off. Is that what you're asking?

    • @kilgoretrout3966
      @kilgoretrout3966 8 лет назад

      The solo is actually simpler than some of the correct chords of the verse and chorus. They are the same 4, just changing order, and i think, if i am remembering correctly, a 5th chord pops in during the chorus, but i don't have a git-box beside me, and i haven't played it in a week or so.
      Again, the ones mentioned, using the capo are for beginners, who aren't ready for the solo, or the wide stretch chords of the true version.

    • @kilgoretrout3966
      @kilgoretrout3966 8 лет назад

      *****
      Ok, are you mistaking me for the beginnerS i refer to? (take note of the s on beginnerS, that i have been mentioning...i am not speaking of myself). You should read, without first deciding you know what the person is saying, and if it seems vague, please ask questions, prior to launching into a "here's what i know" tale.
      Perhaps you got his idea when i mentioned to Andy that i'd been working it up for a couple of days. Yup, i have been recording a tribute in my studio. -Chords that are "finger cutters"?, i'll give you that it was a vague reference, referring to how it would be for someone who has not advanced past open voiced chords.
      As far as how to the way i refer to myself, i will never call myself more than an advanced intermediate, as it is not a pi$$ing contest for me. After having a Gigging/Touring band from 1982-2003, as well as giving lessons, i am sure i could give myself any sort of lofty title. Only thing is, no matter how far you go, there will always be tons of better players. Making it that big of an ego thing could make a person insane...and Artists already dance on that wire. i am fine with advanced intermediate.
      Further, just how many beginners do you know? Last week i had a new student that required an hour to learn open D. You have to remember there is a wide spectrum of "beginners". Hooray for you finding it simple! That is great. There are some first year players can accomplish this, Some cannot also.
      You would also be amazed at how many very famous players use a capo, even after 50 or more years in the business. Saying it is only a beginners tool is shortsighted. i would very much enjoy the income of some of those "beginners" you speak of.
      i, and, i think Andy are speaking to the whole range of beginners. Not all 13 yr. olds are going to play like Wendy Melvoin in their first year, in fact, not all 35 yr old players will, either.
      Thank you for the kind gesture, but, please, do stop referring me to video lessons. i am not a beginner, i am speaking on their behalf. i already have a group of guitar gurus that i work with or talk to. i watch Andy's videos, because i think he is very talented in teaching beginners patiently and cheerfully. That is what i seek to learn from him, and he is a great resource for me in that regard. The teaching techniques i've nicked from him have been fabulous. Just think about remaining patient after the 50th minute of still teaching open D.
      Thanks and Be Well,
      -trout

      @@danturner6887 For your information, he's not trolling. This is not correct at all. You must not be a very advanced guitarist. Prince or Wendy NEVER use a capo for one thing. This is simply this guy's interpretation. He needs a disclaimer. Be willing to learn sometimes instead of automatically saying someone's trolling. He's trying to inform you. The original is in the key of B flat.
