  • This is my first Arduino project. An Arduino powered digital RPM and speedometer. I still haven't completed this 100%, but I thought of sharing what I have done with you guys.
    Please note that some of the codes of this project I have taken from internet. So credits for them go to those developers.
    You can get my codes here:
    github.com/vaj...
    RPM codes:
    jonduino.weebly...
    kokoraskostas.b...
    Special thanks to Jon here for helping me out with some information.

    Excellent, Thank you for sharing your project. I am also building a digital speedo with 7 segment display and MAX 7219

    why you need a rotary encoder? have i to put it too?

    great. planning to do the same here. thanks for sharing

    Great work! I'm also looking to use an adruino tachometer but for a motorbike.. So thanks for sharing your idea ;)

      You can use the same setup with slight modifications to the code...

    Can you explain what that transistor does? Collector is grounded, base is the RPM signal and emitter is on the arduino pin D2. Can I hook up the RPM signal directly to arduino pin D2? If not, what does this transistor do?

    • @singleaspringle6941
      @singleaspringle6941 3 года назад

      And is this signal just higher voltage when RPM rises, or does it change frequency?

    why do you need a rotary encoder? is it only for simulation?

    You have a bad read RPM at 3:16
    1795 RPM , 844 RPM, 710 RPM, 1296 RPM and your engine is accel not down rpm.

      +Camilo A. Camacho I would imagine its electrical noise in the signal line. None of his connections where solid or permanent. Hopefully when he does or did the permanent install it went away. It could possibly be in the code but who knows.
      I love Arduino car projects that don't rely on OBD2. Makes the project universal and can work on pre 95 cars or cars with aftermarket computers as well.

    Well ,u could just connect the arduino to the ignition coil and calculate rpm from there.....works for cars which don't have ECUs....

    Nice project.
    What is mean pin 1 (number of chips) in code?
    Where dose it connect to segment display?

    • @VajiraLasantha
      @VajiraLasantha  7 лет назад

      Hello machan, here LedControl(12, 10, 11, 1); 1 means number of LED controller chips. Because you can chain more than one display chip. Refer to image below to see connections.

      Well bro,
      I haven't to access upper link.Whatever, it's mean pin 1 no need to connect the max 7219 display.

    Is there a way to increase the refresh rate, or are you limited by the car's hardware?

    • @VajiraLasantha
      @VajiraLasantha  7 лет назад

      Which refresh rate are you referring to? LED display? If so yes you can control the value display rate within your program flow. But I do not think you can change the refresh rate of actual LED digits.

    • @rukasu01
      @rukasu01 7 лет назад

      Im referring to how often the data is refreshed from the ECU. I think it is limited to the OBDII refresh speed.

      I'm not using OBD2 connection in this one. Instead I use ignition connection to count pulses.
