    I loved this song before but for some reason after finding out its only two people making all that sound I'm madly in love with this band.

      Same, I always thought it was like 5 people. This man makes most other guitarists look boring. His mastery of looper pedals + like every amazing guitar technique imaginable packed in one song.

    It's about having to hurt someone innocent to save yourself. An old lover, friend, even a stranger. Afterwards you give yourself a moment to reflect, hard, about what you were forced to do to survive -- your only moment of swerving. Then it's back onto the cold night road.

      In the album's context I feel like it has something to do with your own departure or even the departure of someone you love. The latter is heavily implied up until you learn that the whole album was dedicated in the memory of the bassist's mother.
      It's extremely curious because the first few times I listened to ETE's self-titled it gave off that impression of sort of, losing someone or leaving your old life behind. And there's no lyrics at all, just the musical sensation. The fact that the music alone was able to convey exactly what the musicians were feeling at the time, is mind blowing to me.

    Traveling through the dark I found a deer
    dead on the edge of the Wilson River road.
    It is usually best to roll them into the canyon:
    that road is narrow; to swerve might make more dead.
    By glow of the tail-light I stumbled back of the car
    and stood by the heap, a doe, a recent killing;
    she had stiffened already, almost cold.
    I dragged her off; she was large in the belly.
    My fingers touching her side brought me the reason-
    her side was warm; her fawn lay there waiting,
    alive, still, never to be born.
    Beside that mountain road I hesitated.
    The car aimed ahead its lowered parking lights;
    under the hood purred the steady engine.
    I stood in the glare of the warm exhaust turning red;
    around our group I could hear the wilderness listen.
    I thought hard for us all-my only swerving-,
    then pushed her over the edge into the river.
    -William E. Stafford

      +Josh Mehrtens He actually is not a fan of playing the guitar beleive it or not he considers himself a bass player. On their newest album he actually does not play any guitar, only fretless and six string bass. I always thought it was amazing how he pushes the limits of the bass and what it can do

      *****
      True. Let me rephrase. Skills on actual instruments. Let's be honest, it's easier to get good at producing electronic music than it is to get good at guitar, drums, etc. I do both, so I feel like I have a just little room to talk. I still have major respect for electronic producers, but there's something about seeing people playing their actual instruments that producers just can't match. At least in my opinion.

      learning it now, pretty sure its in EABG#BD# if ur super good you can use the bottom three strings for the bass parts and top three for the guitar. the use of an open tuning makes it easier than it seems, but still hard as hell and you need to be good at two hand tapping and it relies a lot on a good body clock
