No beer for Grammer, my friend. He is an alcoholic albeit one in recovery. Perhaps Grammer's heavy alcohol abuse led him to endorse and support the likes of Mitt Romney, Ben Carson and Donald Trump.
I can't stand that some people in the comments section are being disrespectful to Kelsey and his personal life due to his political beliefs. I think that is just wrong whether you are liberal or conservative. I hope some of you agree.
Agreed. I wholeheartedly disagree with his political views, but that should not even factor into the discussions on this video. No one, NO ONE deserves this kind of tragedy and most certainly not for a personal political view.
BigFeetBigMeat420 I like him too. It doesn't matter to me he's conservative as some of my favourite actors are:David McCallum, Tom Selleck, Gary Sinise, Patricia Heating to name some. I guess it's easier since Kelsey and Gary are my age and the others are a bit older. I'm glad he regained his faith too.
Life is tragedy but the man did good in his life. The best we can do and hope for is to not receive or cause unnecessary suffering to others since life is already so tragic.
One of my neighbors has a similarly tragic family life. After fighting the totality of world war 2, being seriously injured multiples times, and surviving, he lost his wife to cancer and none of his children made it out of their 60s. He's 96 years old and alone.
MUCH new respect for Mr Grammer. The courage and strength and intestinal fortitude to go on after these things and still be an approachable 'star' is outstanding.
Kelsey Grammer is such an inspiration in the way he has carried on in life, never given up. He's done the stuff he loves to do, despite the tragedy. If I was ever in his situation (God forbid) I probably would have given up completely. Strong man
this is such a heartbreaking story. I had no idea he went through all this. I lost both of my parents when I was young as well, but to lose them in this way is such a horrible thing to imagine.. why do people do things like this?
Thumbs up, in this case, is not for enjoyment, but rather, for appreciation of the thorough & compassionate dissemination of information. Now, our prayers for those lost & those left to grieve are informed.
Holy crap! If I ever get to meet Kelsey, I'm going to give him a big hug and tell him I love him. His talent has made me smile and laugh, even in the worst times. Down Periscope is one of my favorite movies. I wish I could give some of that happiness back to him. I would love to make him smile. Thanks for another good video!
that poor man. :( So much tragedy and yet can still make people smile with his humor. What an excellent example of the human condition this man Kelsey Grammer is.
That was Kelseys choice, believe it or not. I saw it on an interview I was watching recently here on RUclips. Niles was originally going to be called something else, (in fact, I believe there was no brother in the script originally and when they did write a brother into it, the fact that he was exactly the same as Frasier was almost the reason Kelsey turned it down) I forget what, but when they wrote him in.....Kelsey said the name wasn't right and suggested Niles. I have probably got some of that wrong as I only watched it the once.......but I know it was Kelsey that suggested the name Niles.....have a look for the interview on here. It was quite recent.
I got it wrong. Sorry. Here is the interview. Notice he says nothing though when they ask where the name Niles came from. It was the surname Crane that he requested to change. The other stuff must have been a different interview. I had a binge a few weeks back. ruclips.net/video/BEv6ihs2KpM/видео.html
I always liked Kelsey Grammer and his roles. I remember him as a Captain on an episode of Star Trek:TNG. He is one of the good guys you hear about in Hollywood, no crazy drug or alcohol stories, despite having a lot of excuses to carry on like that. His story makes me want to quit feeling sorry for myself and live a better life
It's such a shame that someone who brought so much joy and happiness to so many people suffered so much tragedy in his own life. I hope Kelsey can have some joy in his remaining years and end this terrible series of misfortunes. Joe
I watched Frasier right through and bought the videos of it. Along with Mash one of the best comedies to come out of America. Amazing with that history he could still give so much laughter to so many people. I wish him well for the rest of his life.
My God- his troubles with alcohol are a lot more understandable having heard this! I hope that he's still doing well and has some peace of mind, bless him.
I've always respected Kelsey Grammar for his work and I knew he had a few unsteady relationships and marriages but I had no idea he'd gone through all of this. I really feel for the guy.
There are many who've bashed him for having sent an e-mail to one of his wives stating that he wanted a divorce. What they don't know is that she only ever wanted to talk about how she was going to kill him. All humans need to step back for a moment and place themselves in the shoes of the one they're attacking. Kelsey Grammer is, to me, the very best ... I've enjoyed every Frasier show and everyone knows I feel that way. I receive disks as gifts for the Frasier segments. He's had moments of his own where he fell, but I would have also, if I'd gone through what he has. His strength is immeasurable.
Damn it. What do you say? What can you say? Life can be so bloody cruel to some people. I gave a thumbs up( for Simon Whistler) but it feels so perverse to do so given the subject matter of the video. I just hope that Mr Kelsey Grammer is in a better headspace now. Even if his heart still remembers it all☮
I believe that he is also a recovering alcoholic too. Honestly after all this, I'd be shocked if he didn't turn to drugs and/or alcohol. The fact that he was able to live through it all, pull himself out of the addiction hole (the fact that he is in various treatments, in no way diminishes his strength), and still pull off a successful film and television career is a testament to the man's personal. strength.
Wow. What a hard life. But it's almost inspiring that someone could go through so much grief and tragedy and yet, become so successful later on in life.
Damn... The dude gave me and my dad so many laughs and good memories as Frasier. I can't believe the kind of pain he went through and yet was still able to make others laugh.
I often complain about my life with how things are, sometimes it's stories like this that make me pause and realize, "I really don't have it all that bad, no."
Tragedy happens to everyone in some way, but compared with other tragedies, ours aren't that bad in the grand scheme of things. I don't see tragedy as defining one. I believe the reaction to the tragedies in life is what makes us who we are, meaning that Kelsey Grammar is an extraordinary person.
Kelsey Grammer has got to be some kind of super-human, to be able to deal with so much sorrow and personal tragedy and not go the way of so many celebrities, self-medicating with hardcore drugs. :-(
I knew about the tragedies in his life (unlike most of the viewers here, I was an adult when _Cheers_ was in production), but I've always felt, since he found fame and fortune, all's well that ends well (not so much for his sister, however).
Ouch, with all the guy went through, you wanna give the guy a hug. It's kinda really sad that the bonus fact was that it was about Kelsey's friend who died on 9-11
Wow I feel so bad for him and I thought I lived with loss in my life. And for him to keep going and become the success that he is. now that's a Testament to going on with your life.
I don't think Kelsey Grammer would appreciate the tragedies of his life being spotlighted like this. Just because its interesting doesn't mean you should feature it.
Oddly enough i 'Liked' that video but I can't say I really did. maybe I liked it for its information rather than really what it portraid. I have watched all the episodes of Frasier and most of Cheers and have really enjoyed Kelsey's performance. I had no idea he had gone through such tragedy. I did know the writers of Frasier died in the 9/11 attacks because they were remembered with their birth and death dates after a certain episode. Wow what an eye opener.
I stopped at 3:10. I wish Grammer the best, and I'm glad he finally ditched Camille and found Kayte. You have to put your wants and needs first, otherwise you'll continue to suffer in misery.
How much has hatred has taken from this man and still he keeps his dignity. He actually replies politely and positively to the man who killed and raped his sister. Listening to this story makes my own troubles seem very small indeed.
There is a real bit of research for you... Did Frasier's brother's name really come from the insane murderer? Seems Kelsey would refuse to let them use that name unless it was something he decided on to somehow poke fun at the guy. I spent 20 minutes on Google and read several webpages and found no mention of where the name on the show came from. With such an odd name, it just can't be a coincidence.
I have always liked Kelsy Grammer. now I have a new found respect for the guy. Good grief. that is a lot to live through and still be sane and not bitter.
I wonder how much of an issue it was to have to work on Frasier where his brother is called Niles? especially after it being the guys name who killed his dad.
After living this long (52..isn't that long; I know) still I have my own theory that there is no such things a coincidence. Things happen to give choice to those involved. I wish I could explain it more; but to me it's that simple. Never take any second of your life as trivial and or unimportant. Even the simplest of decisions can effect you for years.
yes, more appropriate sentiments, Mr. W...similar to, I'm not quite sure why some combine "happy" with almost any holiday, it doesn't seem quite appropriate for Memorial Day. If I say anything of the sort, I usually say something like, "I hope you have a meaningful Memorial Day."
Jeez, what are the odds that much violence and unfortunate circumstance could be visited on one family? Not an easy video to watch (or make, I'm sure) but thanks for doing it. I had no idea about any of it.
Usually I really enjoy this channel's videos, but I feel the need to say it was in very poor taste to do a video like this on someone who is still alive. Whether or not you think someone may have thick skin doesn't change the matter, either. It's one thing if someone's done something unfortunately stupid or selfish and brought a tragedy on themselves, but Kelsey isn't responsible in the least for the events depicted; rubbing salt in those wounds is just mean. This was a poor judgment call.
How can such a man live with all of that and still be such a brilliant comedian, I grow up on cheers and Fraser and never knew, I definitely agree with the beer and a hug comment!!
It really is tragic what happened to Kelsey Grammer. I did some research on him and I found out that for maybe 2 or 3 seasons of Frasier, Kelsey Grammer was drinking and doing drugs. But, thankfully, his fellow cast members and crew staged an intervention in an effort to get him some help. Thankfully, he did go and received the help he desperately needed. Rest In Peace to all of Kelsey Grammer’s loved ones.
Holy crap, that is a tremendous amount of tragedy for a person to have to bare. I would probably have had a drinking problem as well. On a lighter note, thanks for the great vids.
I'm a friend of the man whose mobile home Grammer's sister crawled to before she bled to death. John WAS home that night but wasn't aware she was there until he opened the door the next morning.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! After watching this I need a drink. It also puts things in perspective, especially after watching your video about Arnold Schwarzenegger. Life could be as much better as it could be as much worse. So, don't don't knock yourself for what you don't have, be happy with what you have, and work hard for what you want.
Well presented. What a terrible string of unfortunate horrible experiences. Very sad. Gave you a thumbs up; however, I can safely say, I prefer your other topics. 😢
Simon could you do a series on Neolithic humanity and Ancient History? Like first civilizations and maybe first laws, cultures, arts, religions, myths, architecture etc...?
I think it's a sign he doing better going forward. He will never get his beloved little sister back. Hate consumes you and will never give you anything more than misery.

Jesus fucking Christ, I just wanna give the guy a hug and a beer. That's horrific.
Broseidon12797 right, my god I had no clue.
No beer for Grammer, my friend. He is an alcoholic albeit one in recovery. Perhaps Grammer's heavy alcohol abuse led him to endorse and support the likes of Mitt Romney, Ben Carson and Donald Trump.
Turandot29 and you're a terrible example of a human being.
And why do you say that?
Because you reduce someone's political choices to a disease.
What is so bad about his political views?
Agreed!!!
BigFeetBigMeat420 I agree. Humanity and compassion should override party.
Wow, what a tragic life. How he holds it together definitely gets props from me.
the fact that he was so successful living through all of that just makes me admire him so much
Life is tragedy but the man did good in his life.
The best we can do and hope for is to not receive or cause unnecessary suffering to others since life is already so tragic.
I'm glad that even though all of this terror had happened, he has still remained successful, and has tried to be a great human being.
Big T. Larrity I WONDER WHY
I'm with you, Ruka. Your straightforward wisdom should humble all these mean souls.
Poor Kelsey. I loved him in fraiser. I hope hes living a much happier life now
I didn't care for Cheers or Frasier (not a sitcom fan) but Down Periscope is one of my all time favorite movies.
CraftKitty if you have GOD in your life nothing is impossible..
I knew about his sister being murdered but I didn't know about his father. He is truly an amazing person not letting these tragedies ruin his life.
The irony that his father was killed by a guy named Niles (his brothers in frasier) cant be an accident.
So, did they name his brother on the show after the man that killed his father?
That's an eerie coincidence....
Brian Sierzega that's what I was thinking. I've never heard that name used anywhere else except for that character..
Cam Good It is a unique name, for sure...and it fit the character perfectly played by DHP.
A kind of snooty, OCD, germaphobe named Niles...lol
Brian Sierzega I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this.
Cam, Niles is somewhat common in England. I rarely see it in the US, though.
I have a friend whose older brother was named Nyles..so it's out there. I hope that it was just a coincidence that the names were the same.
The courage and strength and intestinal fortitude to go on after these things and still be an approachable 'star' is outstanding.
good video, still insanely depressing. though I like how he was a bigger man about the apology.
This was painful to listen too.
to.
laalki80 correct
You both rock.
tMattLZ yeah, this presenter isn't very good.
tMatt It really was. Such a trail of heartache. Poor man.
I just saw this man in Big Fish in London. He was absolutely incredible blew me away with his emotion and drive through the whole performance.
Kelsey Grammer is such an inspiration in the way he has carried on in life, never given up. He's done the stuff he loves to do, despite the tragedy. If I was ever in his situation (God forbid) I probably would have given up completely. Strong man
It is humbling to see him not display a shred of his pain in his acting. I pray he has a good life. He is a brilliant man, such a versatile actor.
this is such a heartbreaking story. I had no idea he went through all this. I lost both of my parents when I was young as well, but to lose them in this way is such a horrible thing to imagine.. why do people do things like this?

To his credit after all he has gone through Kelsey even *wants* to make anybody laugh. Yet he does a superb job doing just that.
Humanity can be so horrible and worthless sometimes... thank you guys for the video.
that poor man. :(
So much tragedy and yet can still make people smile with his humor. What an excellent example of the human condition this man Kelsey Grammer is.
Oh my God. What bitter sweet life. I have loved and admired the beauty of his work. What a life. What a strong person.
why would they name Fraziers brother on the show the same name (first name) as a man who murdered his dad (last name)?
TheAnnArnold - That was the very first thing I thought of too. It's such an unusual name that it doesn't seem like just a coincidence.
TheAnnArnold his dad was frank on the show as well but his brother was Niles
Uh his dad was Martin Crane, not Frank..
That was Kelseys choice, believe it or not. I saw it on an interview I was watching recently here on RUclips. He spent time in jail for cocaine... of course such a thing doesnt mean he is not a good guy.
...And yet, he cleaned up, became a successful actor, and a human rights activist. Very strong individual.
It's such a shame that someone who brought so much joy and happiness to so many people suffered so much tragedy in his own life.
I hope Kelsey can have some joy in his remaining years and end this terrible series of misfortunes.

kind of glossed over Kelsey Grammars 10 year addiction to crack cocaine here
lol family problems, not drugs
And flipping over his brand new Dodge Viper leaving his driveway.
I can't blame him for being addicted. I'd need a lot of something too.
Misaki Chan i think OP means that his addiction added to his suffering, not that it was some sort of fault of his
I believe that he is also a recovering alcoholic too. Honestly after all this, I'd be shocked if he didn't turn to drugs and/or alcohol. The fact that he was able to live through it all, pull himself out of the addiction hole (the fact that he is in various treatments, in no way diminishes his strength), and still pull off a successful film and television career is a testament to the man's personal. strength.
I can only guess that Kelsey would gladly give up all of his professional success in exchange for none of this tragedy to have happened.
Man, that's sad as fuck. I watched him on TV daily for years and never knew any of this. Poor guy.
Wow. What a hard life. But it's almost inspiring that someone could go through so much grief and tragedy and yet, become so successful later on in life.
Good God! How much can one man go through and remain sane? Kudos Kelsey for surviving and so sorry for your losses.
Man, that's just terrible. He's one hell of a strong person to be able to get through all of that.
Holy shit... that guy needs a hug desperately.
He really has suffered more than his fair share of tragedy.
Man, that is too depressing. nearly all his family died through murders or mass killings...
Wow, sucks to be him... Considering all he's been through he's an amazingly strong man...
your style is too upbeat for this!
Its when you hear stuff like this you realize how pathetic all your perceived life problems sound
Kelsey Grammer has got to be some kind of super-human, to be able to deal with so much sorrow and personal tragedy and not go the way of so many celebrities, self-medicating with hardcore drugs. :-(
kelsey grammar and keanu reeves need to make a support group
I knew about the tragedies in his life (unlike most of the viewers here, I was an adult when _Cheers_ was in production), but I've always felt, since he found fame and fortune, all's well that ends well (not so much for his sister, however).
Your going to have to balance this one out with 'Today I found out what puppies are dreaming about ' or something with baby rescued fruit bats maybe.
I never knew his real life was so sad. I just knew him as Frazier , Sideshow Bob and Beast from the X-men
Ouch, with all the guy went through, you wanna give the guy a hug. It's kinda really sad that the bonus fact was that it was about Kelsey's friend who died on 9-11
I go to that red lobster regularly. It's weird going to a place where a celebritys sister was kidnapped
Niles? A little too sadly ironic( don't ya think?😕)
Good lord. I can only hope that man has happiness in his life now or quickly soon.
No one should ever have to suffer. No one.
That poor man. The fact that he manages to have a smile on his face and get out of bed, shows how strong he is.
that was very sad to hear. I heart goes out to him and his surviving family.
Wow I feel so bad for him and I thought I lived with loss in my life. And for him to keep going and become the success that he is. now that's a Testament to going on with your life.
So terribly sad, but thank you for the information.
so very sad, I now have new respect for the man!
If you respect his privacy dislike this video
I don't think Kelsey Grammer would appreciate the tragedies of his life being spotlighted like this. Just because its interesting doesn't mean you should feature it.
I respect Mr. Grammar and hope that his life has seen joys to at least make such pain lessoned to a degree.
Oddly enough i 'Liked' that video but I can't say I really did. maybe I liked it for its information rather than really what it portraid. I have watched all the episodes of Frasier and most of Cheers and have really enjoyed Kelsey's performance. I had no idea he had gone through such tragedy.

I appreciated this video. It's interesting to see what his life is like.
I love the way KG speaks.
How much has hatred has taken from this man and still he keeps his dignity. He actually replies politely and positively to the man who killed and raped his sister. Listening to this story makes my own troubles seem very small indeed.

probably one os your best videos simon
My God, this completely changes the meaning of that scene in Entourage
I have always liked Kelsy Grammer. now I have a new found respect for the guy. Good grief. that is a lot to live through and still be sane and not bitter.
I wonder how much of an issue it was to have to work on Frasier where his brother is called Niles? especially after it being the guys name who killed his dad.
I don't think it bothered him. They probably change Niles name if it did.

Poor guy! Love him even more now!
Thank you for ending the video in a respectful tone
A perfect way to prepare for Monday.
With tragedy.
Tastefully done. Took me several days to decide whether or not to watch it.
Hi, Happy Sunday Afternoon.
"He was only 13 when his father was murdered"
*happy music plays in the background*
Heartbreaking!! Simon,You should follow up this story part-2...
I remember some family issues in the late 90's.
Holy crap, that is a tremendous amount of tragedy for a person to have to bare. I would probably have had a drinking problem as well. On a lighter note, thanks for the great vids.
Did you just reply to yourself?
Aaronlcyrus lol 😂
Aaron Burr At the woods *bear
"Billy's body was never recovered..."
*not even a second passes*
"Bonus fact! :D"
:D
But I don't know what to do with this tossed salad and scrambled eggs, I'm crying again ;_;
You forgot to mention his lead acting in the show "Boss", very good show, very tragic thriller/politthriller.
So, don't don't knock yourself for what you don't have, be happy with what you have, and work hard for what you want.
this shit is depressing... i feel so down now. i hope all the best for kelsey.. he deserves a break
God, that was a tough video to watch - but thank you for creating it.
Hello Simon, Your video early today, I like it
My God, that's horrific, poor man, poor man!
4:27 - 4:34 He showed far more class than I would've wanted to.
I think it's a sign he doing better going forward. He will never get his beloved little sister back. Hate consumes you and will never give you anything more than misery.
Jesus. Gives me a whole new level of respect. I don't know how he could have survived all of that and maintained sanity.
At 0:38 he says Frasier's parents,instead of Grammer's parents.
Very funny
