It’s incredible how much your garden has changed in just one year and it is looking spectacular ❤ You are a rock star and I’m so glad you now have Jason helping you full-time. You make a great team 😊
I hope that you and Jason are able to step back and appreciate all the beauty that you have created in less than a year. The transformation is nothing less than remarkable. Your hard work and eye for design is paying off. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and love of .gardening🌸😀🇺🇸.
Chinese pistache along the fence/road at the front of the property. Privacy, stunning fall color some light dappled shade to ease the heat stress on the understory plants
Janey, your zig zag planter is looking STUNNING!!! We live in a valley against the north side of the rocky mountains, amending with cardboard and compost has been saving us for sure! Our soil is chock FULL of shale, iron heavy, and impossible to dig without an auger. But it's incredibly nutrient-rich, so no-dig amending for the win!
Your July front garden tour, showcasing the vibrant colors, amended soil, and effective rodent control, highlights your dedication and expertise in creating a thriving, beautiful garden. Your passion for gardening is truly inspiring. And I am Floating Village Life
Silver bush morning glory (Convolvulus cneorum) blooms once per year from spring to early summer, at the same time as your star jasmine. The rest of the year, it's a fantastic foliage plant that can withstand the most brutal heat. I grow them in here Las Vegas, where today's high will be 117! Over time, it will develop a woody understructure and deep blue-green foliage on the older parts of the plant with metallic-silver new growth frosting the tips. Your patience will be rewarded with a truly gorgeous display next year and I can't wait to see your reaction!
It doesn't seem possible that you have not been there for a year yet and that you went through two foot surgeries! Janey...you are a rock star! I live for this video each month. I'm hoping to be on your "Share your garden" video next year as I need another year to prepare. I can't wait for the backyard now. HAPPY 4TH!!
I can't believe no one's ever mentioned it but your front yard is a leech field. The big flat Rock covers your access point to your holding tank. The last thing you ever want to do is put a watering system or sprinklers on top of your leach field or any kind of plant that has long extending roots. Just trying to warn you before your back feel your septic.
The progress is astounding!👏👏👏. A word of CAUTION…I was taking progress photos of a Robin family, and I startled the three babies right out of the nest, probably 2 days before they were to fledge. I was horrified as were the parents!😢. Not sure what became of them as they scattered across the lawn. Needless to say I will NEVER do that again! 🇨🇦🌸😢
Absolutely beautiful gardens. I love seeing the progress. Get a couple "barn cats" that live outside. They are great at keeping the small animals away. My cat brought us 4 gophers this spring that he caught. They keep the squirls, bunnies, mice and gophers under control without digging massive holes ruining plants trying to get at the gophers.
I agree Janey about filming your garden. I started my channel for that reason, just so I could document (and save) the footage. And it's been very helpful, to refer back to.
Thank you for the great tour! I love following you. I live in zone 9, Alabama's Gulf Coast. We are hot, but very wet and humid. It is amazing how different the same zone can be.
I think Russian sage, and a bright pink (raspberrry) verbena would be a beautiful combo in your zig-zag planter. Your garden has come a long way in such a short amount of time. ❤️
Janey, your garden looks awesome! Question: have you considered eventually having the driveway next to the orchard and in front of the zig-zag planters removed? It seems like a lot of driveway and I bet it would look so much more natural and lush if you planned to remove that part eventually. I know cost is a consideration, but I also think you’re very good at thinking about long-term goals. You and Jason should be so proud of what you’ve already accomplished in less than a year! 😮
Summer is busy, but did I miss your talk on the new proven winners for 2025? It's after July 1st, thought that was when you could start talking about them. I saw a couple I'm on pins and needles to learn about.
About the Gardenmeister Fuchsia, I live 10 miles west of Dallas/ Fort Worth in hot, hot, sticky, humid Texas. And when I have put plants in a spot where they are scorching because they need a little extra shade, I cover them with these black crates I have that only allow half the sun that they've been getting till I can move them to a better location and they can stabilize more. They still get the breeze and pollinators. Maybe this can will help.
I have a gopher story for you. My MIL lived in Oklahoma City in the country. She lived alone, and as her dementia got worse, she had to leave her home and be with family in another state. She used to say she heard noises in the bathroom wall, and that her bathroom wall was almost damp. The house was vacant for several months until family put it on the market to sell. The house was cleaned and empty, and ready to sell. A young man purchased the house, and before closing, he did a final walk through with the realtor, where everything was fine. He signed the papers, got the keys and went back to the house. As he walked by the bathroom, he was shocked to see a hole in the bathroom wall with dirt all over the floor. A gopher tunneled under the house, which was built on a slab. There was not concrete around the shower drain under the tub, so he came up through the space, got inside the wall, and scratched or dug his way through the drywall and into the house. The family paid for repairs to the bathroom and the buyer agreed to get rid of the gophers. It was unbelievable, that was a very strange call to get from the realtor. And the poor buyer! I promise the story is 100% true.
My mom puts umbrellas over her plants in the summer in Florida. I was thinking you could do that with the fucshia until you can move it. Your garden is so pretty, you have such good taste. Thank you for all your videos.
If you’re going to plant Oleanders , please plant on the outside of your fence, they are so poisonous to your pets. They do have beautiful flowers. Your garden looks so beautiful
Have you studied planting for sound barriers? If you plant between your road and fence, think in threes, three layers. Shortest near the sound. Mid height next then tallest next to your fence. Your happy purple fountain grasses = short. Then something a little taller for mid height, then your tallest choice. This is a technique that’s quite effective for noise reduction, allowing you freedom to plant other choices inside the fence. When you add the meandering additional pathway, consider a water trickling water feature in the crux of the joining pathways, or at least between the path and your fence. With a sound softening planting, a new fence and soft shushing water spray, trickling sounds, you could experience that part of your garden in a whole new way. Good luck.
Following along on your journey. Just a suggestion: Perhaps show a few "before" photos next to the present in order to refresh our memories from the amazing transformation from then to now? Would also be great for your newer subscribers. Just on those panoramic shots would say it all ... "picture is worth a thousand words, after-all". Loving the results of your hard work ... so inspiring!
I know you love the Zigzag planter now (as do i), just wanted to say, with the dichondra silver falls covering so much of the front, you cant even tell anyway! Anyway, it looks great 😊
Sending love from Stockton! We are neighbors and I’m so excited to see your journey because I literally resonate with all you’re experiencing as well! ❤
Amending soil is more important than I thought, I really need to work on that, thanks for talking about those types if issues, I learn alot from your videos very informative
Your best for the West garden is soo beautiful! I live in the Mediterranean so your channel has been so helpful and fun to see your garden grow. Unfortunately I can’t get Proven Winners plants in my country but I still get lots of ideas and inspiration 😅🌸🌸🌸
Hi Janey, Robbie (via his videos) has convinced me to watch your videos. I am glad he did. I love gardening too. I am impressed with your career as a gardener. Your gardens are beautiful. I enjoy watching you and your husband work on new projects around your home.
It's all filling in so beautifully! If you want to keep the look of the red fountain grass in the zig zag planter, they do have a dwarf variety out now that might work and then they don't turn into giant monsters. I found some last year and they are perfect 😗🤌
Janey-I’ve been watching you since last year & I have learned so much from you. I’m a garden nerd who gets a notebook every year & I write down notes & observations (monthly) I also date when things start blooming, but the best thing I love is taking monthly videos. It’s excellent to look back on(also helps me remember where I’ve planted things, lol) Cheers from zone 5b Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 my hydrangeas I love!!! They will turn to a beautiful dusty rose in the Fall. But I’m jealous how long you can enjoy your garden!! Love you ❤
I love all your videos, since before you moved to the new property!! thank you! I was wondering if it's too hot for the kitties in a cage, getting very hot, even with a fan. Most get in the grass to cool off, etc... Just a heads up. I am also an animal lover and feed not only my own 4 pets, but 4+ outside, plus the critters that may find themselves munching on the outdoor kitty food. Possums, ground hogs, racoons and birds! And, i live in a town, not the countryside!
Regarding the compost wow, just wow! Roots and Refuge just did a similar video but hers were a comparison on four Greenstalks. The ones with old amended soil were performing superiorly to the ones with brand new bagged soil. This information is so important to me, the home gardener, and I appreciate your investment AND taking the time to show us the impact of proper amending or lack of it.
Janey, you have done so much in less than a year and it is looking beautiful. Like you say we all have our ups and down in gardening but keep trying it's ok. I love a garden with colors, not just green.
Gorgeous! You have a great eye for beautiful combinations! Would love to see a video showing your future plan for the center garden. Thx so much for sharing your garden journey!
Maybe you could put some of the spikey pad things around you Dukebox plants, I think Robbie used the to stop his dogs going into certain areas for a while ( apologies if I’m saying something you’ve already thought of) 🙏🌸
Just want to let you know that your hair looks so pretty curled like that. It also looks like you got your hair cut in layers recently. You are so pretty! And your gardens are amazing! You have a very nice family, also! Big fan of yours, SE Pennsylvania
Janey, Your garden is filling in beautifully! I love all the saturated color. I also really appreciated you showing the difference between the composted and non-composted areas. Your birds are called house finches. I love that you included the chicks in your tour. 💕 Your
Stunning Janey! I was so relieved the other day when you showed the gopher damage cause I had 3 plants including a lantana that basically came off clean at the dirt line and I was like how does one kill a lantana??? 😂 when I dug at the dirt underneath there was nothing. No roots. Now I’m convinced it wasn’t anything I did wrong it was a gopher! I’m glad to know it wasn’t me but they are so frustrating!
Wow what a transformation in such a short period. I been struggling to set up a garden layout that works. Im in zone 9b las vegas such dry hot summers/winters too. Everything is pretty much dying right now. This week we are hitting 118😢. I been able to find pw one time! A superbena and is the only plant not struggling right now lol. I am learning to play more in the garden. Love your videos
Hi, the Gopher Hawk works really well for us.. I work at Stepping Stone Nursery in Atwater, CA (was nice meeting you at The Greenery) 😊 We use the Hawk there and at home too.. It does really well!
What you have accomplished in less than a year is truly inspiring! We have lived in our new house for almost 3 and it is a slow process. I love your daily videos so keep up the good work! ❤from Michigan
You talked about pulling out your purple fountain grass from the zig zag planter, can that be replanted somewhere else in your garden? It’s just so beautiful! It’s an annual for us here in south Texas zone 9b.
The garden is simply beautiful! Love the zig-zag planter colors...really cool things off in the hot weather. And those heliotrope!! But, I also love those saturated colors...blues with oranges and that lemon coral sedum...wow!!! I wanted to suggest a plant that I love...Agastache 'Blue Boa " combines well with all colors and has fluffy violet-blue spires that bees and butterflies just love. And the foliage smells like minty root beer. And I can smell the wonderful flowers of verbena lilacina! Another nice Salvia to try is "African Sky" with sky blue flowers and fresh green leaves...new in nurseries this year (found in New Zealand!). Hopefully, Brian and Cruickshanks will be gopher hunters!! In San Francisco, I plant everything in gopher baskets (I buy them wholesale!) Janey, how did your bearded iris do for you earlier this year? Also, can you plant alstroemeria in any of your half-sun areas? Or would those work better for you in containers with drip lines? Thank you for the tour!!! Keep cool!!!
Hi Janey and Jason, I just love your channel and content! I'm in zone 7 in Virginia. I don't have a green thumb, but I am trying! We moved into a new house last year that had a forest for a backyard and was completely unattended to for 10 years! After removing trees and stumps we are trying to figure it all out (soil quality, sun patterns). It's inspiring to see how your garden has evolved! Any advice for a newbie? (I also watch Robbie and Jim Putnam!)
Some plants in wet areas would need to be trimmed. My flowers are all different from severe drought to extremely wet year this year. Had to pull poppies and shear salvia as they flopped and prevented the area from drying out. Lavender hates being overwatered. You must have very arid climate. Flowers for dry areas are more rigid and can stand on their own in years of a lot of rain not so much. Nice garden choices for your dry climate.
Bravo Janey. You’ve done an incredible amount in less than a year. Please come help me when I move to my new property in Auburn. Doing consultations yet? 🙏🏻🙏🏻
i just planted the serendipity allium in my garden and its doing good but hasn't bloomed yet. I'm in hot humid Cleveland, TX zone 9a! hoping to see it bloom soon! also, your garden is just stunning! what you have done in almost a year is incredible. I have been in my house almost 11 years and you have inspired me so much this year in starting my own garden.
I live in San Diego Calif. For your front fence for street noise plant Tacoma cape honey suckle! It attracts humming birds and other birds it has a beautiful orange flower and grows extremely fast it gets at least 10ft tall or more and can be controlled easily! It’s a perfect hedge plant, great for privacy and it will be a beautiful green back drop to your garden instead of the fence it looks beautiful if you want to keep it shaped into a hedge form or it can be left Willy hilly but looks better if more formed, it’s somewhat like Esperanza but more compact, Esperanza is more lacy. Just a suggestion😉
I'm growing an annual that's perfect for your "Black and White" garden - - Zulu Prince Daisy. White petals surround a black center with a narrow orange ring. I bought the seeds from Siskiyou Seeds and started them under lights in late winter. I moved the tiny seedlings to the garden nearly 2 month ago and they've been blooming ever since. Planted in full sun with sporadic water, they are surviving our nasty heat (Zone 9B, Davis CA). It would be great if they self seed, but I'll have to wait and see about that.
Janey, we had a birds nest on our front door wreath too and a neighborhood cat jumped up and knocked it off and ate them AND we caught it all on the ring camera 😅 it was awful! 😣
I saw these cute shade umbrellas for plants that stick in the ground that come in bee or butterfly shapes on Amazon. Think they were called shaderella. Maybe you could. Shade the fuchsia until you are able to move to your shade garden when temps drop .
I was always turned off by the color on the tag of the Blood Sweat and Tears lilies but yours are really pretty.. I agree with you about the yarrow , very dull color and yes you need a lot more gladiolas. Your mass plantings are very impressive. A little side dress of fertilizer would probably save your strugglers until you can get the soil properly amended.
It’s incredible how much your garden has changed in just one year and it is looking spectacular ❤ You are a rock star and I’m so glad you now have Jason helping you full-time. You make a great team 😊
So very true, just spectacular , colour, variety of blooms and more.😍😍👏👏👌
Laura Garden Answer and you Janie are two very dedicated Gardner I have ever watched, keep it up, keep inspiring us ❤
You don’t just have a green thumb, you have green fingers and toes! I love all your plant and color combinations❣️🇨🇦
I hope that you and Jason are able to step back and appreciate all the beauty that you have created in less than a year. The transformation is nothing less than remarkable. Your hard work and eye for design is paying off. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and love of .gardening🌸😀🇺🇸.

Our soil is chock FULL of shale, iron heavy, and impossible to dig without an auger. But it's incredibly nutrient-rich, so no-dig amending for the win!
I think your garden looks incredible for only being a year old. You and Jason are doing a great job. I love it.
Your July front garden tour, showcasing the vibrant colors, amended soil, and effective rodent control, highlights your dedication and expertise in creating a thriving, beautiful garden. Your passion for gardening is truly inspiring. And I am Floating Village Life
Oh your zigzag planter is stunning! It looks like a ball gown flowing over the ground. 🏆
Yes I agree too just gorgeous 💐

You and Robbie always have me running to my garden. So awesome watch you create.

Gopher suggestion: what if you cut the bottoms from the PW compostable pots, and plant the plant in the container to protect the rootball?
It’s amazing how much you accomplished in such a short time! So beautiful!
White Pillar rose of Sharon. - gorges. , but who sale?? And Bush Clematis “ Stand by me Lavender”. Wow.
The progress of your garden is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! The lessons you've learned are lessons for me, too!!! Love watching your channel!!!!

Summer is busy, but did I miss your talk on the new proven winners for 2025? It's after July 1st, thought that was when you could start talking about them. I saw a couple I'm on pins and needles to learn about.
WHERE'S THE MONSTER?! Did I miss it somehow... such a beautiful, colorful garden,I love watching it evolve. Great job❤
I think a circle of monster plants around the propane tank would look awesome with your colors in the zigzag planter😊

Why don’t you divide your fountain grass. You can then plant the extras in the garden.
My mom puts umbrellas over her plants in the summer in Florida. I was thinking you could do that with the fucshia until you can move it. Your garden is so pretty, you have such good taste. Thank you for all your videos.

Janey, can’t you put a large container next to the fuchsia plant to help shade it until you decide where to move it to?!
The zigzag planter and the front porch is amazing. All and all the front garden is beautiful ❤

Thank you for the tour, I really enjoyed it. I will try to find the dwarf Russian Sage for my garden, it looks beautiful. 🌺🌺
Wow. So beautiful. I do think the sunflower that gets 4 feet would look great on long the fence ❤
You are doing a great job with you garden 🙏👍👏👏👏👏👏
Soooo much done in less than a year!!! You’re so lucky that Chip Drop comes so often. I signed up and was told 13 months was average wait time.
Beautiful garden ❤
The weeping willow is really filling out.

Zone 9b Texas Gulf Coast here.😊 I am loving all of your gardens. Everything is BEAUTIFUL 😍 Thank you for the tour!
Tons of work and it absolutely shows. The best of the west garden is looking amazing! 👏👏👏👏 Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸
I love your garden! Thanks so much for displaying photos of the plant tags it’s super helpful.
You have the same plants I have in your plants in the west section.
Lamb ears»- never see in the store. Florida.
If you don't want to move the fuscia right now, just throw some shade cloth over it in the meantime.
Bravo Janey. You’ve done an incredible amount in less than a year. Please come help me when I move to my new property in Auburn. Doing consultations yet? 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I live in east Canada zone 3 where it rains a lot and my allium millenium and allium medusa does very well now for 5 years.
i just planted the serendipity allium in my garden and its doing good but hasn't bloomed yet. I'm in hot humid Cleveland, TX zone 9a! hoping to see it bloom soon! also, your garden is just stunning! what you have done in almost a year is incredible. I have been in my house almost 11 years and you have inspired me so much this year in starting my own garden.
Great job, bromeliad would look beautiful all year round. It would give a pop of colour, and loves hot,hot weather.
Yeah, once you amend that soil it will be so much better. But looking good for a first year garden!
I would love seeds from that, Janey! What a cool plant!
That’s funny that the smoke bush is a fire retardant 😂❤
WE HAVE TO START ADD DECORATIVE LABELS 🏷
Stunning! Beautiful tour and so informative - love it!!
Nice💕💕💕💕Really wonderful video
I think layers of compost will do great for your soil. I loved your front garden tour.Stay happy.❤
Tecomaria capensis [South African Cape Honeysuckle] is great for slopes too
I'm growing an annual that's perfect for your "Black and White" garden - - Zulu Prince Daisy.
Definitely taking much inspo for your best of the west garden. Hope to find more PW abd plant that this coming fall!
I am concerned about how you placed your weeping willow right under a power line, they get huge, and you will need to keep that open.
So beautiful enjoy seeing your garden grow.
