Amazing! It was because of your retrospective/review that I picked up Sudden Death (and Hard Target). And I’m always up for more commentaries, so this is scratching me right where I itch!
IIRC, the producer of "Sudden Death" was Howard Baldwin. He was part owner of The Pittsburgh Penguins when the film was made. That's why it was set at The Civic Arena and the announcer was Mike Lange, the radio guy for The Penguins.
Good to know. I always wondered why they used a real team and a real arena. Usually movies featuring terrorism use fictional settings and teams to distance the brand from those kind of associations.
@@willmorgan3088 Yeah. I am a big time hockey fan. My favorite is The Washington Capitals-arch rival of The Penguins. But Mike Lange is a gem. If you want to have fun, find a reel of some of his classic calls.
I think this movie would have been a big hit if it came out at a different time. Released against Toy Story, and HEAT in the US. If you get a chance Oliver you've gotta watch " Lone Wolf Mcquade" with Chuck Norris, and David Carradine. I'm amazed it's not a early Cannon movie ,but a Orion pictures release . James bond meets Modern Western . I think you would really get A kick out of it no pun intended. Scorpion just released a special edition bluray .
As a father of two boys, my favorite part with the kids is at the very end when his son starts to tear up telling JCVD that he obeyed him and stayed in his seat as the building fell down. I seriously started crying a little at that.
Only about 15 min in. Got to say; really like the new guy. Though he’s talking pretty much constantly, it’s not too much. Good energy and interesting comments.
You had me at "Sudden Death". Favourite Van Damme flick, more re-watchable and engaging-throughout than the others. A much better D.H.C. than Under Siege if you ask me, granted I shamelessly prefer Dark Territory to the first despite it's lack of Gary Busey xD Have you done Toy Soldiers? Another fun clone that seems to have been forgotten, or only put on accidentally instead of Small Soldiers :D
If you do a review of a horror movie, may I suggest the movie "Virus" ?? It came out in 99, a year after "Deep Rising" and sort of similar. The cyborgs scared the crap out of me back in the days.
Whenever I wanted to rent a film that I looked too young for, I'd take my Dad to Blockbuster with me, find what I wanted, give it to him, and hide behind the shelves while he got it.
Cool story bro lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Sudden death is so underrated, Powers Boothe is a fantastic villain
If you're continuing the theme of "Diehard" clones, please consider "Air Force One" as one of your next commentaries!
Good plan, Layton!
Seconded!

Oliver always does quality stuff.
He needs more subs. Been saying that for years. His work does not go unnoticed by me for sure. Thanks Oliver.

Plus the Civic Arena was the only retractable roof stadium at the time.
Explains why the movie is so accurate, with real NHL stars, teams, and Pens announcers too.

Powers Boothe great villain R.I.P and great movie too
My favorite part: kids telling the vilain their dad is coming cause he always fulfil his promises

The best van Damme's movies.
You should RR for Gremlins 2 - The New Batch & John Carpenter's Elvis

Thanks for the feedback Kurt. Paul is a great chap.
Oliver Harper you’re a champ for replying. Love the channel. Cheers, mate! I’m a half-Asian Hawaiian, so if I said that wrong, no offense intended.😉

Stipe Miocic is actually based off Van Damme’s character in Sudden Death.

The cyborgs scared the crap out of me back in the days.
🎶 This is the story of Sudden Death starring Jean-Claude Van Damme! An awesome movie about terrorism & hockey, with Jean-Claude Van Damme! 🎶
love it
Double team is bonkers. a gem from the 90s that would never get made now. a batshit remake of "the prisoner".
Have you reviewed Automatic 1994/95. Very good film sadly hard to find on the internet.
First comment 😂😂😉 love this movie 👍👍
Yeah, die hard 4 is good. Die hard 5 is proper shit.

haha im sure we've all done that!
Who voted this down?
People with good taste in movies lol
@@ianbarrett4166 But it's a commentary, not the movie itself.
No point reasoning with someone who can't appreciate a "bad" movie like this, their stick is lodged too deep.
Saw this for the first time the other day and was so bad lol
