Rest assured the MG B had an excellent under frame chassis based on experience gained over the years at ABINGDON building the famous range of classic sports cars. There will never be another group of engineers and staff so dedicated to their work in designing and developing motor cars.
It wasn't just British Leyland that had people that replaced safety for financial means... Both Ford and GM's top brass (even though they made between 1971-73 experimental airbags for fleet cars) were "in the same boat". GM would then introduce in US airbags as a buyable option in 1974-76 larger cars, but after 1977 no one offered them until Europe started to develop them in the early '80s.
Good O'l GM spent the entirety of the 80's lobbying against the implementation of airbags because of the associated costs that they deemed "unmarketable" to US car buyers. Go figure.
What they didn't do is insulting, as well as the music. Drive at your own risk. I own a 1977 MBG and realize the danger. I try not to drive on highways.
I have a 76 roadster. It's my every day car and i ofen drive at night, on motorways, country roads etc. In fact i got a speeding fine it it last month annoyingly. The danger is not worth thinking about. Have fun in it.
Just a comment as the principal person involved in this work. Ralph Nader (US) citizen published the FMVSS in the States which required safety test for Seat Belts and Passive restraints eg Air Bags - MG Car company exported 80% of our vehicles to the USA. We had to do this work to comply. It was original and streaks ahead of European car makers . The Music by Tubby Hayes one of the UK'S greatest Jazz saxophonists - its mood portrays the actions seen in crash tests.
@@iamsupreme1 fair play to you. I have an 83 merc and TBH am a bit more careful than in my daily. When I say daily I actually do similar milage in both.
Fascinating, all the elements of the airbag system we now take for granted are there.
If the impact of an accident didn’t kill you, that jazz certainly would!😮
Well, I'm was about to take my MGB for a drive. Now I'm rethinking going. haha!
I was just thinking how the MGB looks like it holds up well to the 30mph impact compared to some much later cars

I have always felt safe in my MGB. They are strong cars.
Feels like a tank
Very cool, never seen this before. Thanks for uploading!
Thanks we were all so sad to have the project cancelled at a time when we were ahead of the game in UK and Europe !
Amazing how anyone could look at these tests and think “this technology is stupid”!
Jeeeezzzzze. That music gave me earache 🥴
It was cruelty to see this video...I am now going to the garage and hug my 71 B.
Sounds like Raymond Baxter?
Yes it was Raymond Baxter. My script which he really did not want to use but we persuaded him eventually - his fee for this was £100
@@mikehearn3155 I gather from your comment you worked on this back then? Love to hear more. The intro was very interesting to say the least.

Nationalising the car industry then putting a lord in charge...what a joke
