I recently noticed that this video about Glyn Johns, which I uploaded on this channel a couple of years ago, got blocked. So I edited out a couple of small excerpts from the video and here it is again for you to watch. Hope you enjoy it.
Glyn Johns is an absolute legend when it comes to shaping the sound of rock music! Listening to those classic albums he produced is like stepping into a time machine that takes us back to the golden era of rock. It's time for a new wave of rock to captivate our hearts and minds. I've been keeping my ears open for the next big thing, and it sounds like The Doublejumps from New Zealand might just be the answer.. If they're channeling the spirit of innovation and artistry that the greats like Glyn Johns helped cultivate, then I'm all ears. It's exhilarating to think that a band from across the world could be the catalyst for the rock revival we've been waiting for. Great video as always, I'll be waiting for the next one ✌
Although familiar with Glyn’s impressive career, I had no idea he recorded “Lady Jane”. I find the old footage fascinating and appreciate *any* snippets of Brian Jones. Thank you Yesterday’s Papers, I thought this was interesting.
It’s worth being old now so that I was able to be young then. What a time for music! Glen Johns had a storied career. I read his memoir, Sound Man, a few years ago. A must read!
Yes sound man is a great read Glyn sure got around and knew everyone it seems what a wonderful time for music for a young generation thanks YP you've done it again sooooo CHEERS !!!
Tucky Buzzard man. Awesome. My favorite Rolling Stones song, because I sing it all the time when I am on the trail in the woods is Going Home. I absolutely love that song. I know most people hate it.
" So as I'm leaving, the guy says ' Do you have anything else?"" LOL Love your choice of images. You have such a good eye, YP. Thanks for this very informative post.
I love documentaries like this, about the people who had everything to do with the success and fame of my favorite bands. Another must see is called "I Still Do " which features Eric Clapton and his album of the same name. Glyn is in that one too.
Great minidoc about one of the key figures in shaping the entire London sound in the mid- to late-'60s. Anyone unfamiliar with Glyn Johns (and his late, too-soon-gone younger brother Andy, who worked with Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull, among many others) should educate themselves fast; it is impossible to understand the evolving sound of British rock from 1965 on without knowing about them. So glad you included the sidebar about the unjustly forgotten band The End (which evolved into the post-psychedelic hard rock band Tucker Buzzard, which released five albums between 1969 and 1973), whose belated debut LP, finally released in 1969, is an overlooked classic shepherded into existence by The Stones' often-silent secret weapon, bassist Bill Wyman (who acted as producer), and Glyn Johns. More forgotten nooks and crannies of the magical '60s, deftly remembered and brought back to life by YP. Thank you again.
Glyn is brilliant. I love the work he did with the Small Faces who he basically co-produced. Another great album he produced (among many) is the Steve Millar Band’s second album “Sailor”. Legend.
Very interesting video (as usual) but if there was a British artist that really hit hard in Spain in the sixties those were The Tomcats. I think they could make a good topic for one video here.
In Glyn John's book he mentioned the other singles he is on other than the Immediate Records one " Mary Anne/" Like Grains of Yellow Sand" ( In Spain " Like Grains....alternate take) bside was " Little Child". Brian Jones played sitar on Lady Jane ( as the video here mentions)- that fact has never appeared in any books. Luckily he stuck to producing. Update: The info on last single is from Greg Russo's " Yardbirds- The Ultimate Rave Up" book 2023 7th Edition. BTW- Glyn John's NEVER did drugs- how they heck did he not get corrupted by the Stones/ the era!!!!!
that's great that glyn johns had a number 1 hit that he didn't even know had been released. the whole thing sounded like maybe some payola or other shenanigans went down but i don't care. it's a great song and a great story.
I think Bill Wyman produced at least two albums for Tucky Buzzard, no? One of the biggest mistakes John Lennon did was that he didn't pay attention to what Glyn Johns said about Allen Klein (see the Get Back documentary) and not to be interested by Glyn's Get Back mixes. Anyway, you did a great job one more time.
I think Glyn's career is a classic case of "right place, right time", not sure what his talent is beyond a being a decent engineer, but I've always loved The End's LP 'Introspection', such a fantastic album!

How come fair use don't apply on your videos ? There are only exerpts and you do add informations and comments for educational purpose.
@@jean-marcknight8816 The explanation is beyond complicated.

Thank you very much for your labor, work , and historical record.
Thank you for this.
The End and Glynt Johns in Spain must be the Chief's most obscure footage to date. What an interesting little vignette! I love Glyn's ring too ☺️
Lady Jane is my favorite Rolling Stones song & I quite enjoy this version.
That is really a spectacular version of that song...nice to hear it!

Great book.
Glyn is a big star in my mind
Glyn Johns made some of the best recordings of the era. An excellent producer as well. Listen to his work on Joan Armatrding's self titled lp.
Yes sound man is a great read Glyn sure got around and knew everyone it seems what a wonderful time for music for a young generation thanks YP you've done it again sooooo CHEERS !!!

Thanks to you I have an album to discover :)
Cool! You won't be dissapointed.
Tucky Buzzard man. Awesome. My favorite Rolling Stones song, because I sing it all the time when I am on the trail in the woods is Going Home. I absolutely love that song. I know most people hate it.
I love "Going Home", too. One of my favourites from "Aftermath".
Another rare story! Excellent. Must check out the End.
Another great story from YT. Thanx a lot!
Very glad the video's back up, it's a good story. Thank you!
Great video after great video, even if it is an older one. Keep up the good work. Thanks!

Great story!
I never heard this Glynt Johns story before. Yesterdays Papers gets another scoop.
Fascinating story!! ❤
Those Sonoplay cartoons are so cute and I need more of them
Great video , Glynis could have been a brilliant pop star i'm sure, he could do anything.

Legend.
I love that record.
Fantastic record! Last album that had Boz Scaggs as a member.
Had absolutely no idea about Glyn Johns singles! The End were a terrific band
Crazzzy!!
I knew nothing about this. Wow!
Damn! You always do such a ace-job with these videos! Still a fan! ❤❤❤
Cheers, Michael!
Glyn Johns in Spain almost made Andy Warhol's prediction come true! Great episode! Looking forward to hearing John's Lady Jane and The End as well.
Cheers!
Glyn Johns briefly showed Franco and his lot how to lighten up and have a good time.
Glynt Johns had the looks of a rock star to be sure
Yep.
I spotted Françoise Hardy on the cover of Teleguia. I'd love to see you do something about her in the '60s if it appeals to you at some stage.
What a funny story! Great video! Congrats! Tks!
International Times archives are readily available and their record reviews are great. Charles Shaar Murray!
The End was a great band. I have them on CD's.
Brill8ant band.

Bill Wyman's never been to Spain? Ohhh... I feel a song coming on.
lol
GlynT 😂😂😂😂. What a weird tale😂

How ?.......Because he gravitated towards Bill Wyman......a most sensible Rolling Stone.
that's great that glyn johns had a number 1 hit that he didn't even know had been released. the whole thing sounded like maybe some payola or other shenanigans went down but i don't care. it's a great song and a great story.
Ha ha what a great story. I bet he had a big laugh when his single came out as "Glynt" 🤣
Second only to Tom Dowd...they are almost identical work ethics style and ability...true producer engineers types.
Behind the sound of every Great Band is a great Engineer
Glynn is underrated in every way could you share the link to this interview with him if possible? I'd really like to hear the whole thing.
1:06 where’s this footage from?
I’ve seen pictures of other band at this show and would like to know if there’s more footage
Glyn could sing and had heavy friends...why not?
I think Bill Wyman produced at least two albums for Tucky Buzzard, no? Glynt Johns - Lady Janet
Great Article Unsung hero of rock and roll
no,wait...Glyn Johns released others singles prior to this Lady Jane in spain,,, for Decca,Wescot and Inmmediate
I think Glyn's career is a classic case of "right place, right time", not sure what his talent is beyond a being a decent engineer, but I've always loved The End's LP 'Introspection', such a fantastic album!
I'm glad he found work in the studio-his vocal wasn't really that good, imo. The arrangement is nice.
836th!!
Glyn Johns? The famous Led Zeppelin engineer who's one of only a few people to genuinely have their name on a miking technique.
True!
