Im overweight. I have to be honest. My weight gain is a choice. I choose what to eat. I choose NOT to exercise. My excuse for not exercising is the pain. But it's not a good excuse because I'm in pain ANYWAY. My weight gain has caused me to have arthritis in both knees and both hips. First, there's no blanket answer for all Obese people on the reason they became Obese. 70% of Americans are overweight. 44% of those overweight are at the level of Obesity. Just the numbers alone should let you know, it's deeper than just "Your lazy". Yes, don't get me wrong, some people do just make excuses. But people ignore the fact that America makes it extremely hard for people to stay healthy when they shove ads for fatty and artificial foods in people's face and refuse to ban the artificial garbage they put in our foods that has been banned in most European and Asian countries for decades. When a person is dealing with Anorexia or Bulimia, society recognizes it as an infliction and a disease. Overweight and Obese people don't get the same grace or acknowledgment. Go watch any episode of My 600-pound life and you'll notice every single one of those people have a backstory of some sort of depression, anxiety, or some kind of trauma where they used food to fill a void or Emptiness, just like someone doing the same with drugs, tobacco or alcohol. It becomes that deep of an addiction or coping tool to where those people need therapy to help them lose weight. Point being, its easy for people who don't have to deal with being Obese and are looking in from the outside to say it's your fault for getting like that and just ignore the factors and circumstances that lead to it. I myself recently lost 38lbs but it's extremely hard to keep it off and I needed help from Ozempic to get that far. I'm starting therapy soon too to give myself more tools to help me improve myself. All people don't have these tools available to them, unfortunately.

People might live a text book healthy lifestyle but even those people fall short at something. Life happens on both sides and people get burnt out from the lifestyle trying to keep up.
People hate to hear it, but it is true. Sure you may have circumstances that are outside of your control like having pcos or being disabled. But I’ve seen people with those conditions find ways to help themselves that work for them, so at the end of the day it’s up to you to make changes. The only people who really can say that they don’t have a choice are children who rely on their parents for food. But even then, once that child grows up and becomes independent, it’s up to them to change themselves. Even if you don’t have time or money on your side, there’s always something you can do to be better. Trust, I am one of those children who is now an adult and doesn’t have a lot of money, lol. And I have lost a lot of weight on my own after changing my mindset and educating myself

You summed this up nicely, ignorance and bad habits play a huge part in stacking on weight. I am fairly active but I don't go to the gym, still dropped two dozen pounds over the last year just from cutting down on sugar from soda. Also agree on eating healthy affordably, I only spend a bit over 200 a month for food and cook most of the time rather than eating fast food every day like I notice many people doing. It basically comes down to just being a little active and eating right. I have a brother that cut out soda completely but is still big because he still eats tons of starchy carbs, not realizing/caring he just traded one carb for another and stays at square 1. We are all products of our choices.

@@jonatansundstrom6380 There are exceptions of course (some more obvious than others), but by and large it is a resignation of effort and deluding themselves into thinking that being acceptable behavior (their body, their choice, I am absolutely okay with this) is the exact same logical thing as being healthy (not correct and not okay). I will not tell a person that they have to lose weight because being fat is wrong. It isn't. Claiming it has zero impact on ones health is unacceptable, people who make the choice to accept it or overcome it should face that choice without being misinformed of the consequences of their choice.
America feeds us all these fast food chains and junk food. But no one is placing a pistol to our head and making us eat unhealthy foods. Its all about what us as individuals put in our body. Rather its healthy and unhealthy. Its our responsibility on what we feed our bodies.
I get what you’re saying about it being a choice for sure and I think that anyone that is super dedicated has the ability to not be obese but when you look at things in totality I can see why ppl say it’s not a choice. I’ve been fortunate to where I’m naturally athletic in my build and I literally work at the gym and sometimes I struggle with my consistency working out because I’ll be so tired after work. I can’t imagine how it is for someone who has never been to the gym is uneducated about what food they need to stay full, fuel their workouts, and not do too much overeating. I feel like unless you’re going to dedicate your life to losing weight it probably feels impossible especially if you have some health conditions. Not to mention you usually don’t see progress right away so it’s easy to lose the motivation. Or if they struggle financially, have kids, work multiple jobs, again not saying it’s impossible but I think reducing it to being a choice isn’t helpful and it’s dismissive. I think the best follow up question when someone says they can’t, is to ask them how important losing weight is to them. Because the ppl that use certain things as an excuse just need to acknowledge that it’s not a priority. If it is, no matter your circumstances you can do it the process just might look different or take longer.
@@theanimerapper6351…ok but then what? That’s why I feel like saying that is not helpful. If someone is using these things as an excuse, they obviously see it as a major hurdle and simply saying “that’s just an excuse” doesn’t acknowledge that it’s something tangible that they need to find a way around if losing weight is important for them.
The sports scientist's distinction between active choice and passive choices only clarifies that obesity is not an active choice. It doesn't rule out that it's a passive choice whatsoever. Obesity is the same as criminally charging someone with neglect of (insert vulnerable group: child, elder, pet). It is not an active choice to harm someone by neglect since you're not physically causing the harm, but the law punishes you for being neglectful, or not doing enough to ensure the health of whoever you're entrusted to care for. Whether that's a child, an elderly person, or a pet. The only person who is responsible for your body is yourself, so to be neglectful to it by continuing to allow yourself a caloric surplus and a sedentary lifestyle, is treated as a passive choice. But a choice nonetheless.
@@crownedking_cj8890 Yeah a Walmart is convenient for cheap goods but if you have no way to get there then what??? Not everyone has a car, there’s not always public transportation to rely on, so more often then not you’d find yourself walking to the nearest fast food store or gas station if you live in a food desert. Seems like you’re the out of touch one
@abelwilliams7140 do you know you can get groceries delivered? And you can probably afford a delivery fee if you're already being smart about what you're purchasing
i mean technically sometimes its passed down from generation to generation. doesnt mean u cant change it but it is harder when its 50% more likely to happen from birth
Its not always a choice, I know people that were born premature and because they were given certain meds at birth its naturally caused them to be bigger throughout life. I also have a cousin that was born premature and hes very thin. That guy should focus on himself. Just because hes in shape and mildly at that, doesn’t mean he should go around giving his opinion when hes clearly no expert. Also it is a lottt more expensive to eat healthy. Especially during times of inflation. Mind you im a pretty fit person but not all people are big because they just sit back wanting to be big. And its a very tone deaf, ignorant stance to take that point of view.
Other than people with health issues, obesity is a choice. When you are taking medz that makes you gain weight, the more reason to do something bout it instead of just going with love yourself as you are. Coz no matter how hard you deny and make up excuses obesity will only makes more health issues.
As someone whose actively (going to and am) losing weight as well as just getting into the best shape of my entire life, it really is about trial and error. I still dont know how many calories im eating exactly & its been a challenge trying to figure out how to eat minimum 1700 calories. I can barely eat 1000!!! Makes me wonder how i even gained that much weight (i know it was the full on eating entire bags of candy/chocolate/cookies etc) and whatever else i wanted in excess. Im gonna take this journey even more seriously. Learning how to meal prep and whatnot. Obesity to me is a choice (unless of course you have some health condition) also for me its my gut health and cortisol levels being skyhigh for YEARS. Im so ready to transform
My favorite is.. BMI isnt even an accurate way to measure body fat. Aheem YES IT IS. Its not accurate for Olympic athletes and body builders, which the majority of society.. is not. So yeah.. it is accurate for most of society lol, people just like to pretend it doesn't include them, when it absolutely does.
9/10 it is a choice to be obese. I do understand there are certain cases where weight gain is inevitable because of disease. I had Cushings disease in early 22’ where my body produced excess cortisol. This lead to me also having metabolic disease and heart issues. I ended up gaining 50lbs in 6 months because of this. Mind you I have a very active job and worked out 5 days a week in addition to cooking all my meals. I lost all of that 50lbs in three months simply because I fixed the cortisol issue.
im a verry thin person, always have been probably always will be (im working on it) and my whole life ive been able to eat whatever i want without getting fat, im healthy but i dont workout much but i still have some muscle mass due to genetics. im sure there are people on the opposite side of the spectrum who find it difficult to lose weight and i can see how its possible they become discouraged to loose weight. same as i become discouraged to gain weight because of how difficult out bodies make it.
There is so many healthy food options, and even the most unwalkable cities have places to walk. You have control over what you eat and there's sidewalks everywhere, even if it's not the most appealing place to walk. These are just more of the excuses she's talking about in the video. Especially since this video is about obesity, not just being slightly overweight.

I have asthma and it basically makes it to where it's harder breathe I managed to push through basic training with the Army yeeears ago Genetics and hormones and disease are a factor but people use it as a crutch too often, If you're actually determined , then you can push through those limitations that you're putting on yourself
Just because its harder for a person to lose weight, doesn't mean they Can't lose weight. Its a choice. The difference is that some people have to try harder and harder sucks.
I do agree with Dee about the whole taking care of yourself & proper nutrition facts. However I know everybody do take of their bodies differently & can be comfortable on where they are at
The problem is a lot of ppl aren’t just lazy but don’t know how to work out & think being fit is a genetic thing & want to get fit now but will not go on youtube or tiktok to learn & it’s right at their finger tips
It is a choice most of the time but it’s about learning your triggers. Like for me I was an emotional eater so when I figured that out it was easy to lose weight. I was 350 at one point and now I’m 199
The more you weigh the more money it costs to eat so i cant understand the excuse of it being too expensive. I was never obese but just from me being on a bulking cycle i had to spend so much more money than usual just to make sure I'm eating any a calorie surplus. i healthier food more expensive than non healthy food? yes but portion control, buying mostly what you need and not what you want, as well as buying in bulk quickly evens that cost out.
I will say some medications won't allow for you to lose weight, and people are dependent on them because of their medical needs. Big phrama knows what they're doing.
Well I gained weight after taking an anti depressant, it’s an unavoidable side affect. I’m working to loose it and have changed medication but being overweight at that point was not a choice. I’m also on a diet.
Yes some obesity is a health thing but let's remember 600 pound life where people chose to get that big. I get heartbreaks and stuff but let's be honest you gotta eventually get up and love yourself eventually
Nah the thumbnail is crazy But also a lot of women after they have children their bodies change drastically, and my mom developed an overactive thyroid that prevented her from losing weight and she went on a liquid diet through her doctor for a year and only lost 10 pounds and then her insurance paid for her to have the surgery that cuts your stomach in half Because it was no longer cosmetic. It was medical and she still is considered overweight and way more women struggle with that then man, but a lot of people have issues with their thyroid or other conditions that make it way harder to lose weight. Also, some people are endomorph others are ectomorphs or mesipmorphs and way more people are endomorphs who have issues processing carbs and are never aware of that and their body naturally makes carbs into fat, and never into energy ectomorph is able to eat whatever the hell they want and stay skinny and they don’t teach you about different body types in school and the fact that a lot of people can’t be eating foods other people are eating even if they are calorie counting
Factually being overweight doesn't meant you'll have other health issues. Some people are overweight until they die and never have any other problems. Sure, being heavy ups your chances of having those issues but it's not a sure thing
Why would she fire him when she's picking these? LOL I saw her comment that he gives her multiple different options for each thumbnail and she picks the one she likes. So she herself are picking these unhinged ones 🤣

You didn’t laugh so you thought I didn’t understand?
Healthy is such a bad term sometimes. Cuz some mildly obese people are technically healthier than some people who aren’t. But also there’s a lot of issues medically where doctors will over react and over prescribe a fat person. Think of all those women who got heart problems from a diabetes medicine they never needed. I think this makes it harder because how do you even start to get healthy when you feel the wrong person can actually make you worse? Idk I’m the only one to not be obese in my family, and god I hate how hard it’s been for them.
what we’re not gonna do is ignore the hormonal issues women go threw. a lot of women can’t loose weight because of that and y’all hold them to these standards. NO you can’t “manage” your weight unless you take medications to fix their pcos. and a lot of women DONT know so they can’t fix it and they try but can’t loose the weight.
To be obese must cost a lot bc I’ve seen how they have to eat to be a certain weight and how much they eat and food is only getting more expensive Ik it’s not easy to lose weight but the fact that you have to buy the food you’re eating should help

All of that is just an excuse. Other developed nations have far lower obesity rate. If they can do it so can we
@@theanimerapper6351…ok but then what?
Naw, some obesity models are promoting obesity, eating bs on cam & saying they’re healthy… but you already said it
I just hate how there’s virtually no access to healthy foods in a good portion of the country that is feasible.
What do u mean? I buy veggies at Walmart that last for two weeks for only 178 every pay cycle 🤣🤣🤣and it’s a lot cause I mostly eat veggies
Sir I just became vegan and there are literally so many vegan frozen foods at Walmart with low calories and very cheap what are you talking about
@ when people of privilege advocate for the poor🤣🤣cause the comment was just out of touch
"Damn, Dee really did some serious partying during New Years Eve!" That's what I thought when I saw the thumbnail at least ;)
Now Dee 😂
The disappointment on her face as Dr Mike was giving an answer she didn’t like
i mean technically sometimes its passed down from generation to generation. doesnt mean u cant change it but it is harder when its 50% more likely to happen from birth
This video just motivated me to keep going with my intermediate fasting. Currently on day 4 and already down 10lbs.
Losing weight is simple but not easy.
There is corn syrup in everything we eat. We don’t have walkable cities. There are food deserts everywhere.
Walk around your neighborhood then🤷♂️or a park
dee thumbnails gotten so better and funnier 😭😭😭

Is obesity a choice? Most definitely, is is a choice to literally be nosey and focus on other people’s life and weight ABSOLUTELY
I have asthma and it basically makes it to where it's harder breathe
I managed to push through basic training with the Army yeeears ago
Genetics and hormones and disease are a factor but people use it as a crutch too often, If you're actually determined , then you can push through those limitations that you're putting on yourself
That thumbnail made me think of that one channel that made a “facts about dee shanell“ video saying “she went from fat to fit“ 😂🥲
Obesity for most people is a choice. We all have mirrors & can see the bad weight gain
Just because its harder for a person to lose weight, doesn't mean they Can't lose weight. Its a choice. The difference is that some people have to try harder and harder sucks.
I do agree with Dee about the whole taking care of yourself & proper nutrition facts. However I know everybody do take of their bodies differently & can be comfortable on where they are at
I feel like unhealthy foods cost more than healthy ones🤷🏾♀️
now Dee why would you attach yo head on Lizzos body like that 😭
Lmao😭😭😭
The problem is a lot of ppl aren’t just lazy but don’t know how to work out & think being fit is a genetic thing & want to get fit now but will not go on youtube or tiktok to learn & it’s right at their finger tips
It is a choice most of the time but it’s about learning your triggers. Like for me I was an emotional eater so when I figured that out it was easy to lose weight. I was 350 at one point and now I’m 199
does dee make her own thumbnails? ☠️
No she has someone who does them
@ lmao
Dee, the thumbnail had me literally like “…whhh…what in the…..? Har-mercy…what ha-happened..?”
dee that thumbnail is diabolical work
The more you weigh the more money it costs to eat so i cant understand the excuse of it being too expensive.
7:43 doing bigger things is wild😂
DEE THE THUMBNAIL, girl I HOLLERED 😂😂😂😂
I will say some medications won't allow for you to lose weight, and people are dependent on them because of their medical needs. Big phrama knows what they're doing.
These thumbnails never fails to make my day better 😭😭😭
Well I gained weight after taking an anti depressant, it’s an unavoidable side affect. I’m working to loose it and have changed medication but being overweight at that point was not a choice. I’m also on a diet.
Yes some obesity is a health thing but let's remember 600 pound life where people chose to get that big. I get heartbreaks and stuff but let's be honest you gotta eventually get up and love yourself eventually
The thumbnail?!?! Dee is so unserious 😭😭
Omg now this Thumbnail is just wilddd lmaoooo 🤣🤣😂 taking me OUT!!!
I definitely need to be in the gym at least 300 days this year, or else I'm cooked (dad bod at 21 💔)
Nah the thumbnail is crazy
But also a lot of women after they have children their bodies change drastically, and my mom developed an overactive thyroid that prevented her from losing weight and she went on a liquid diet through her doctor for a year and only lost 10 pounds and then her insurance paid for her to have the surgery that cuts your stomach in half Because it was no longer cosmetic. It was medical and she still is considered overweight and way more women struggle with that then man,
but a lot of people have issues with their thyroid or other conditions that make it way harder to lose weight.
Dee should make a shirt with the quote “y’all go support⏩“ on it
The same way being a drunk or druggie is a choice being obese is a choice.
If I were Dee, I’d have internal conflict about whether to fire my editor or give them a raise😭😭😭
Why would she fire him when she's picking these? LOL I saw her comment that he gives her multiple different options for each thumbnail and she picks the one she likes. So she herself are picking these unhinged ones 🤣
@ it’s just a joke because it’s unhinged🥴
@@kikialeaki1850 Yah I know you were joking but it sounds like you didn't have a full understanding. Your joke would be funny if she wasn't the one picking them, so just sharing what I saw. No harm meant, cheers!
@ I know she reviews them. I would also assume she reviews them, if I hadn’t seen her mention it, because that’s just the sensible thing to do.
The joke still applies even though she checks the thumbnails. And regardless of if it’s funny or not, it’s still a joke. So I’m really not sure why you’re bringing that up. You didn’t laugh so you thought I didn’t understand?
That thumbnail 😂
Thumbnail is giving "I'm fat, I can't read" IYKYK 😂😂😂
Thumbnails got it Queen
not bulked up dee in the thumbnail! pleaseee😭
that's more than bulk ☠️
Giiiiiirrrrrrrrrlllllllll that thumbnail is diabolical😂😂😂😂😂😂you know you a tea when you do this lol she be making her thumbnails like😈😏
The word fat isn't offensive. It's only offensive to call someone fat when you add the word fuck to it.
the thumbnail LOL
I bet Dee be laughing her ass off making these thumbnails🤣
GIRL- that thumbnail got me crying on the floor 💀💀
The thumbnailll CHILLEEEEEEE😂😂
THE THUMBNAILLLL😭😭😭😭
Healthy is such a bad term sometimes. Cuz some mildly obese people are technically healthier than some people who aren’t. But also there’s a lot of issues medically where doctors will over react and over prescribe a fat person. Think of all those women who got heart problems from a diabetes medicine they never needed. I think this makes it harder because how do you even start to get healthy when you feel the wrong person can actually make you worse? Idk I’m the only one to not be obese in my family, and god I hate how hard it’s been for them.
Dee in her editor bag 😂
Dee and this damn thumbnail i didn't even start the video and i'm on the floor 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Im a trucker i basically cook in a closet got into great shape if i can do it anybody can.
The thumbnail is messed up and hilarious at the same time knowing she picks them her self 😂😂
Dee got the best thumbnails on YT
LMAO Thumbnail 🤣 🤣 🤣
This thumbnail. Is. INSANE!!
Omg the thumbnail is crazy 😂
Also guys there's a difference between fat people and obese people
what we’re not gonna do is ignore the hormonal issues women go threw. a lot of women can’t loose weight because of that and y’all hold them to these standards. NO you can’t “manage” your weight unless you take medications to fix their pcos. and a lot of women DONT know so they can’t fix it and they try but can’t loose the weight.
I like my own way of losing weight, not listening to anybody else’s way cuh.🤣🤦🏽♂️💯
The thumbnail is WILD 💀
THE THUMBNAIL? ma'am?? 😭this is the most wild one
I have a disease and Im still not obesed but I’ve also never been obese
Dee these thumbnails LAWD 💀😭😭
OMG these thumbnails are getting better each and everytime 😂😂😂😂
Dee, why you a cool 341 in the thumbnail? Know you trolling 😂😂😂
LMAOO GIRL THR THUMBNAIL 😭😭😭😭😭
To be obese must cost a lot bc I’ve seen how they have to eat to be a certain weight and how much they eat and food is only getting more expensive Ik it’s not easy to lose weight but the fact that you have to buy the food you’re eating should help
