Download Any From 10.10 To 10.15 MacOs
It takes time to download and install macOS, so make sure that you're plugged into AC power and have a reliable internet connection.
These installers from the App Store open automatically after you download them:
macOS Catalina 10.15 can upgrade Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks
macOS Mojave 10.14 can upgrade High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion
macOS High Sierra 10.13 can upgrade Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion
Your web browser downloads the following older installers as a disk image named InstallOS.dmg or InstallMacOSX.dmg. Open the disk image, then open the .pkg installer inside the disk image. It installs an app named Install [Version Name]. Open that app from your Applications folder to begin installing the operating system.
macOS Sierra 10.12 can upgrade El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion
OS X El Capitan 10.11 can upgrade Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard
OS X Yosemite 10.10 can upgrade Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard
So Basically if you factory reset your MacBook 2012 then you will go back to older operating system near by 10.8 if you got 10.9 you are lucky
but for latest operating system required 10.9 or later
so have to go by these steps
first update to 10.11.6 then update to 10.15.1
from 10.11.6 to 1o.15.1 watch this video

Hi, unfortunately I wasn't able to access to the AppStore and Safari was unable to access any apple web but I could download the dmg file by manually copying the download link on Safari, and tried to update to Sierra and It worked with nor problems. Once on Sirra I could update directly to Catalina from the AppStore.
So my question is, is there any benefit on going to El Capitan instead to Sierra?
Machine: Macbook Pro 2012.
OS: macOS Mountain Lion.
