Love your content, I have said for years there should be an umpire review panel, same time as the players. Make it transparent and the penalty is weeks in the jrs
Here’s the thing umpires miss 30% of the calls in the game at AFL level. The league will always be on the side of the umpire because at the end of the day there’s not a whole lot they can do to put the players in danger. And there is an umpire review, during the week the senior umpire coaches look through the game with the umpires and run through what they did right and wrong. It is frustrating to watch when they become panicked like they seem in some of these examples though that should be inexcusable.
Great work bro, I agree I have a feel that players are trying to flop for absolutely nothing. There was a lot of spirit in the western derby last weekend and I was a bit confused with the 150m penalty. There have been a few strangew umpiring decisions I think that when the blues players punching it at the behind post was the right call but McCartin should not have been pinged for deliberate.
The Paddy McCartin step-over was legitimately done under pressure. The umpire was clearly wrong & biased. There were several decisions made that were bullshit like a spoil by Lloyd that got them a goal was BS. Sometimes they get guilty & pay rubbish frees to the Swans but rarely where the Swans have an easy shot on goal. They do it against the Swans regularly.
Yea there are people on Reddit who have said the free kick was correct as he had time and space (mark) but the umpire calls play on and then Johnson attempts to tackle. How is that not under immediate pressure? Should have been 50m penalty or a point, not a free.
Apparently it doesn't count as under pressure if it's after playing on from taking a mark. (From has ump stuffed up on twitter). However that doesn't excuse missing the 50m free from the Collingwood player stepping over the mark, when Mccartin is clearly stepping backward to take his kick, not intending to play on or go off his line.
That was very harsh... even saw on reddit Hasumpstuffedup post that the decision was correct. He's just backing up the umpires decision when it's clearly wrong
I am happy overall with the umpring the week more consistent and for people that says the McCartin was stiff, It was the rule book, but I have to admit the deliberate free kick is correct but it is not like the momentum of Johnson took him forward, even if McCartin had played on and Johnson was running towards him, the umpire hasn't called play on. The deliberate was correct but maybe 50%-50% missed 50m
McGovern hard flopped. Hope he gets a fine. I blinked and missed Zorko's mark live. Good grab though! An oversized wombat? Huh? Gaff 200IQ. That mark and play on incident was a miscommunication by the umpires. Both of them thought they were in control. Not often that happens at AFL level. First Jezza, then Hawkins, and now Dangerfield. Who shanks next week for the Cats? 150m? WOW. That is insane. I have never seen that either, and I doubt we will see it again ever. That'll go down in the history books! If Lynch took a few more opportunities he could've kicked 12. Finlayson absolutely slammed him. But I think a fine will do, didn't seem all that bad. Correct that it should have been 50m against Johnson. But it wasn't called so there isn't much of a point going on about it. I believe that it was deliberate without sufficient intent. He was inside 9m, but elected to put himself under immediate pressure by playing on. That, in my book, constitutes a prior opportunity to keep the ball in play and hence was rushed without sufficient intent. But it was a rough free kick as Johnson should have been pinged for overstepping. At the end of the day, Sydney won anyway so it doesn't really matter. Interesting nontheless though. In my opinion, Carlton's choke against Melbourne was arguably the worst ever seen (of any games I am aware of) since the Geelong choke vs Sydney starring Nick Davis in the 2005 Semi Final. You just cannot lose games like that, especially at high stakes. I daresay crouch will miss 3 -4 weeks. I know I probably sound like a broken record here but I will once again refer to the Tom Stewart case... This hit, like Stewarts, was high, late, and high impact. The only thing going for Crouch here is that Gardner did lower his body to kick the ball, but to me that doesn't constitute a rediuction in the ban length. Some may disagree but I think he should get 4 weeks. Let me know what you think though. Must be national wombat week. Interesting.
Yea the wombat comments from two different people is definitely strange. Always love reading your thoughts, you clearly take the time and I do appreciate it man
How about for Collingwood's only goal of the 2nd quarter. Josh Daicos runs for about 30m without bouncing the ball, no free. Kicks to contest where Ginnivan gets a soft high and a goal.
Not sure what your referring to as of the suns one, the only free kick I can spot is a marking interference (chop) is this what the example was showing.
also that last one was so clearly not a free kick, he hadn't controlled it long enough for it to be a mark and menegola didn't take his arms out. he just "body spoiled" him is the term. as much as i despise geelong and how the umpires lick their asses.
McGovern flopped to try and get a free kick back I also feel like the media has ruined the umpiring the umpires listen to what ver the media says and umpires around what they say it sometimes just ruin the game
That GTA reference was fucking great. I couldn't add anything to that if I tried Zorko's mark was great. The Saints player pinned his arm (not in an unfair way but it still happend) and he still came down with it I would expect that commentary from an AI posing as a human or Brian Taylor That Gaff one annoys me. I've said it once I'll say it again play better to win the ball. Don't play for cheap frees. It's embarrassing Gawn mark. Any day of the week The 150m is an odd one. I don't really have a problem with it other than everyone was in on it. Can't just hold 1 guy accountable while he's getting dragged around (unless I missed something) When I heard Lynch had 8 straight I thought something was wrong. Turns out he just didn't shank a kick at the sticks Essendon are... Really.... Really... Really bad when they're bad aren't they. Embarrassing That tackling action was intended to cause harm. Poor form God I feel for McCartin. Did the hard work. Deserved a 50m but ended up giving away a free from full back. Really poor call Pickett is a freak of nature. It even looked like the ball wasn't spinning properly which suggests that the kick didn't come off as intended. You would call it luck if it didn't happen so often Man that's unlucky for Crouch. The guy was low from the way he made that kick. Not trying to end anyone's night. But that's why the rules are that way I guess one I feel should have been there was Harry Schoenbergs goal. Gets the clearance, scoops the ball from the contest, breaks past 2 and nails it from 45. Work of art ruclips.net/video/ylzTQL02V8o/видео.html
You're the first person to comment on the GTA addition to the video so I appreciate it. Still convinced that you and Angus are the same person but I do appreciate the comments my man
I think the call against the Sydney player was the right call, Johnson hardly did any pressure on him he just walked over the point line, it was deliberate in my prospective.
Yeah with McCartin your are wrong because the rules for deliberate rush are 18.11.2 Free Kicks - Deliberate Rushed Behinds A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player from the Defending Team who intentionally Kicks, Handballs or forces the football over the Attacking Team’s Goal Line or Behind Line or onto one of the Attacking Team’s Goal Posts, and the Player: (a) is greater than nine metres from the Goal Line or Behind Line; (b) is not under immediate physical pressure; (c) has had time and space to dispose of the football; o So point c says if you have prior opportunity and the cues for prior opportunity are Prior Opportunity: a designation to a Player in Possession of the Football who: (a) is balanced and steady; or (b) attempts to evade or fend an opponent; or (c) has taken a Mark or been awarded a Free Kick; or (d) has driven their head into a stationary or near stationary opponent. To summarize this point is that McCartin have prior/ time and space to dispose because he has taken a mark. A mark is therefore his prior and when you have prior you can't rush a behind similar is you take a mark and then play on and is immediate tackle is HTB cause mark counts as prior. Yes so some may not agree but this is the correct decision according to the rule book.
Yea I agree and that makes sense, but the umpire calls play on so the mark becomes irrelevant? Then Johnson applies pressure trying to tackle him so then would it not fall under point b?
@@holdingthebull the mark is relevant because it was his choice to play on and so it is his responsibility to dispose of the ball. If that makes sense.
@@qtrmagicshot6919 I do get that. But you can't say that Johnson doesn't force that choice upon McCartin due to him overstepping the mark. I think the correct call would have been to call Johnson back to 9m and let McCartin take his kick
@@holdingthebull The umpire double whistle to get Johnson back but he continues to go forward like I said with a different comment everything is right however he missed a 50/50 50m penalty
So the process is right however when the umpire double whistle he continues to ignore and encroach the mark so the 50m is the wrong call but the deliberate would have not happened like I said with the other message Johnson moves foward even though McCartin has played on but umpire hasn't called it so 50m should have been correct cause McCartin does play on but the Johnson goes forward before the play on call.
It's a breath of fresh air to have some great AFL content on RUclips on a regular basis, being well edited too. Good stuff my guy!
