  • Welcome back everybody! So, lots of you have seen my A level results video and have since been asking me how I got an A* in English language.
    Rather than just copying and pasting the same dm to everyone, I thought it was about time I made a video explaining how I did it (on the eve of the English language exam).

    Hey, loved this video because it’s so jam packed of handy info! Basically I’m at the end of Year 10 at the minute, and I’ve been wondering which a-levels to choose. There’s so much on RUclips for English Literature but not English Language!! So I was wondering if you could do a video in the future please just summarising your whole experience with English Language, what the course includes and why you chose it etc. If you could do that it’d be SO helpful cos I don’t know which English to pick!! Thank you so much😊

    • @AlicePreece
      @AlicePreece  5 лет назад +2

      Definitely! I can't recommend English language enough - I like analysing modern texts and articles etc... I love plays but can't stand poetry so that made the decision pretty easy for me!
      Grammar is a huge part of English language, but once you get it, you'll fly through - it's kind of just like cracking a code in my mind. I definitely went through my ups and downs with English language but loved it in the end!

    • @itslilyyyx471
      @itslilyyyx471 5 лет назад

      Alice Preece thank you so much for replying that’s so helpful! Yeah the thought of having to remember SO many quotes and study novels, plays and poetry kinda puts me off Lit a bit because I like it at GCSE but don’t know if I could do the a-level! And idk, I kinda want to try journalism when I’m older so I think Lang would help me more with writing my own stuff maybe??

    • @AlicePreece
      @AlicePreece  5 лет назад +1

      As someone who studies journalism at uni, English language would be WAY more beneficial for a career in journalism!

I just wondered when you mentioned about Q3, you said that you only need around 2 paragraphs but then you went onto say what to write for 4 different paragraphs for that question. Hello! Hope you reply to this comment since I'm in need of a lot of help. I've decided to give English language as a private candidate to improve my equivalence percentage. I chose English since I've always been good at it and I'm honestly not looking to get an A* or even an A, a B or C would be fine for me. Have no idea where to begin and even after watching this and noting everything down I do not know where to start and what to do. Any idea what I should study and follow to create a basic understanding of it because I understand what we're supposed to look for in texts but if there's a way where I could understand what the things that I'm looking for ARE (such as a lexis, semantics etc) would be of much help.

    Hii! So I'm sitting for my English Language Unit 1 tomorrow 😥😥 And our teacher is completely unhelpful so I have turned to the internet. I just wanted to ask how would you answer a representation question?? like what does representation actually mean? Representing what? Is it depending on the text or??

      Just read the text through once and think what kind of feel/vibe you get from it yourself. Then ask yourself why, and then look for the specific sentences.

      Treat it like any other text! Think about meanings and representations (so what are their intended meanings, purposes etc)

    • @AlicePreece

      I would do just a short intro where you gap the text and give a lil bit of context, just so you can’t be marked down for poor essay structure 🙌

    thank you !

    • @AlicePreece
      @AlicePreece  5 лет назад

      Not really - it’s how things/people/places are represented in the text - how they’re represented by the writer through the use of language, grammar and context. You can even talk about how the writer represents themselves!

    • @AlicePreece
      @AlicePreece  5 лет назад +1

      That’s fair enough - I was told don’t repeat everything. Some repetition is inevitable, but I tried not to repeat exactly what I had already said in Q1&2
