    Aside from fire hazard everyone has mentioned already
    Fragrance does not go directly in the measuring cup full of hot wax. It can leave lingering scent in the container and can taint future candle scents. Its better practice to mix scent in a separate disposable paper cup

  • @Itzhannahjoy_
    @Itzhannahjoy_ Год назад +5193

    As someone who used to own a candle small biz measuring the right amount of fragrance in your wax is extremely important! It's very important to make sure you're using special candle wax fragrance and not just essential oils. There is a big difference and can cause hazards. Also you should never put dry flowers or leafs just on top of the candle it can be very bad and leaving the wicks that long can also be a hazard! Always trim your wick! Be safe making candles!❤

      Anything that can cause a fire, I always just tell people to go buy it at the store. Candles made by professionals can cause fires so a random person putting random things just makes it a larger risk.

    FYI since we’ve communicated the danger let’s say all the reasons why -
    (If you knew all this/this warning doesn’t apply to you, I’m so glad. I just want this to be clearly stated for any and hopefully everyone to see!)
    1) 🌲 pinecones/other additives = 🔥
    Y’all got this one.
    2) container has to be a safe material and thickness - they’ll usually be marked as “candle safe” or “candle supply”
    otherwise, dish can break and then flaming wax is on your table and floor
    3) wick placement = geometry - make sure you have enough, not too much, and in the right spots.
    If not, your candle may burn unequally and that can make a hole that hot wax can drip out of on to the table, the weight difference can tip the whole thing, or a burnt down part might allow hot wax to make contact with a component around it that was clear before but tipping made it light it!!
    4) Heating Wax in the microwave instead of a double boiler (in a metal bowl large enough to sit over the edges of a pot of boiling water)
    The risk? Microwaves heat in a very inconsistent way, and wax is no exception. Hot pockets of air can bubble up at random because there’s also no surface for bubbles to form on (if you absolutely must, put a wooden spoon in the container full of wax while it melts for some more but not best safety). Not only is uneven heating and “rapid boiling” of hot wax - just the way it bubbles up once it’s moved by your hand - make for uneven melting and inconsistent texture of wax to pour, but you don’t even know the temperature and how hot it will be to burn you if it does spring up on you. Scary! Keep a thermometer for candles and know what you’re heating to per your type of wax and aromas/colorants, being exact about it helps keep you safe because you’re controlling variables. And you’ll make better looking, better smelling, prettier candles.
    5) wrong ratio of essential oil rather than candle fragrance oil = potential 🔥
    very dangerous to pets and any human with even the remotest of allergies, some EOs are unsafe to burn off for all people
    We are not spamming the comments with danger reminders to be annoying or a nuisance or just to be right or correct someone! This is a huge safety risk, and there’s a bunch of replies saying they want to try, or why don’t you sell these, etc.
    That would… be bad, to say the least. And the comments are filled with a lot of professional candle makers that have sold product and know what standards it had to live up to, the alternative is to risk life and belonging. Anyone who’s worked with this kind of crafting has heard and seen the consequences of not carefully considering these things, and we don’t want this creator or anyone in the comments (or anyone at all) to have a tragedy after innocently and happily enjoying a holiday craft. We know that manufacturers and suppliers have made this stuff more available to buy, and that they don’t label it for safety beyond the minimum (if at all). That sucks for you, because we’ve all mostly skimmed a little safety warning or thought we knew common sense enough not to worry, but there’s NOT good education on the danger that candles can present and nobody expects you to just *know* that.
    You can make these sad mistakes regardless of age or experience and no one should feel stupid for not knowing info that no one gave them! Even so, this is an app heavily populated on the low end of age, and I would feel especially devastated to hear about a kind, innocent kid or teen following an aesthetic channel and trying this and having a pinecone combust on them or anything else I’ve listed. Not just fires, I don’t want anyone to start heating wax in a microwave and get startled and scared by a sudden wax bubble exploding and potentially causing damage to the microwave. I don’t want you to have a scare that makes you realize why you shouldn’t take candle making as this casual thing because I don’t want you to go through that terrible moment. I certainly don’t want you to get burned from a hot wax bubble pushing the rest of the boiling wax onto you as you take the wax out of the microwave. I don’t want a pinecone to pop out of your candle and land on the Christmas tree and for you to have to smother it in a panic of adrenaline and then feel how it got you and you’ve got a bad burn.
    In the end, it’s very easy to make this look fun and casual enough on social media that it very well can and probably will convince someone to try it out, and I want them to be able to. Safely!
    It’s the mom energy in me, but just say from this only kids are fur kids “mom”: please stay safe and have a happy, lovely holiday. And if you have a platform that includes the public, just be careful because the “craft wasn’t a problem for me” of today could very well be the “I feel sick because even with being held legally responsible/paying for that kid’s ongoing medical bills for the burns, I don’t even know if her whole life will be affected because she followed my tutorial and I haven’t even been to the sentencing on my case” of tomorrow, which will become the “this action is performed under the supervision of professionals” on every post the next day, which effective nullifies the responsibility that you want to live up to but some less scrupulous people would just dodge if their posts directly inspired kids to do something dangerous.
    It’s something to think about.
    Have a very happy holiday season and a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Diwali 🎉❤ and many happy returns to you and yours in whatever it is you celebrate or whatever brings you joy.

    Hello, please use real fir. In my family from Northern Germany/Baltic, it is a traditional custom to burn a branch of the fir tree. It smells very pleasant and is said to attract good luck. The fir tree should remain dry and untreated, so it won't be a problem if the piece of fir tree slips in the warm wax and comes into contact with the flame - on the contrary, it crackles like a fireplace. Dried orange peels, with cloves (spice) or rose hips, star anise and cinnamon sticks go well with this.

      From personal experience, no one's life is 100% aesthetic, not even this person's... I promise you. It is absolutely gorgeous and does create quite the ambience. But it's all performative and intended to look perfect for content. It's localized to a few things, and usually a specific area of the home...which you could easily accomplish even on a frugal budget! When we see these videos, just remember there's a lot of production that goes into it and it's like looking at a very meticulously put together set, like when you go to a nice furniture store and you see a living room display. It's smoke and mirrors, all of it..every creator, every aesthetic video... All. Of. It. 😊

    As a longtime candle maker this candle is extremely dangerous not only because of the plastic elements and the pine cones (when lit will go up like an inferno) but most importantly is that a high heat safe dish?

      She doesn't have trinkets or knick knacks. My wife and I travel a lot and either get a magnet or mug. We love the mugs because when everyone's drinking coffee after dinner you don't mix them up and pick up the one with whiskey in it.

    As someone who makes candle at home… this is really bad. Overheated the wax, using random essential oils and a random kitchen bowl. And not all essential oils are suitable for candle making. You don’t get a full burn or over burn, and the candle will smell nothing very shortly. Good video but bad candle making. Plenty of videos in YT for those who want to make good candles.

    • @QTpatootie95
      @QTpatootie95 Год назад +3

      Pretty sure the random plants on top are the biggest crime here and the most actually dangerous lmao unsure how you can tell that she overheated the wax or how you're gauging her essential oils aren't up to snuff that just seems like you want to brag about having a super basic candle making knowledge

      @@QTpatootie95 please, do your own research about candle making. If you go online, there are plenty of candle suppliers telling you not to use microwave or overheat wax and non specific essential oils for candles if you want to make good candles.

      The random plants are another issue, I won't personally do that myself but you keep them out of flames it is okay and many people do sell candles with stuff inside.
