I feel like I’m listening to one of those on track, sent by God preachers from way back in the 50s and 60s that used to be more the rule than the exception (though the apostasy happened long before then).

Pastor Carter mentioned that Joshua prayed for the sun and moon to stop in place. I believe that it is a mistake to assume that it was the Earth's rotation that stopped the sun and moon. Otherwise scripture would have said that Joshua prayed for the Earth to stop rotating.

I think God stopped the universe also. So galaxies could continue on their appointed paths!!

Joshua 10, Sun stood still and Moon stopped. A lot of confusion on this part of scripture and really no good explanation.
Joshua 10: 11-14 And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.
12 Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel:
    “Sun, stand still over Gibeon;
And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
    And the moon stopped,
    Till the people had revenge
    Upon their enemies.
Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. 14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.
There are a variety of explanations: 1) A “local miracle” in which God allowed light to remain in Gibeon, much like the Hebrews had light even when the Egyptians were in the dark found in Exodus 10: 23
    2) A explanation is simply to take this passage of Joshua 10 literally that God performed a stupendous miracle, causing the sun to delay its “setting.” God stopped the motion of the earth so the sun would give more daylight to defeat the Amorites.
    3) Another view attempts to explain the event as an eclipse that gave the appearance of a long day in which the sun did not set. Alternatively, some combination of an eclipse and refracted light in the atmosphere could have made the day appear longer than normal. God timed the event to miraculously coincide with Joshua’s prayer and moment of need. The main weakness of this view is that an eclipse typically lasts for minutes rather than hours.
Here is the explanation. God has used weather and clouds to destroy the unfaithful people of earth. A good example is when God sent the flood to destroy the sinful man of the earth, but spared Noah and his family found in Genesis. God does the same thing here with the Amorites. Most ignore Joshua 10 verse 11, "And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword."
What God did is send a 'Hailstorm" on the Amorites on this day. To have a "Hailstorm" God would have darkened the sky or heavens, so to say the clouds of the Hailstorm would have "Eclipsed" the Sun and the Moon. When the verses 12 and 13 reads the "Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”13 So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge Upon their enemies." Basically when it describes this event and day is to be taken as a Figure of Speech or Metaphorically.
So what this is not to be taken Literally, what it means that the "Sun stood still and the Moon stopped" just means that the Sun and Moon are not "Functioning" as a normal day/night giving light because of the "Hailstorm". The sun was not saw as setting in the Horizon, because the of Intensity of this tremendous Hailstorm. The moon would also not be visible because of this Hailstorm. Just to note on a clear day the moon can be seen in the sky with the sun.
The Hailstorm clouds put the Sun and Moon on pause or in idle mode not giving the normal light and not saw as a setting sun, hence forth the Sun stood still. This passage has nothing to do with God Stopping the rotation of the earth for a day and Revolving around the sun. This passage of scripture has nothing to do with the flat earth theory. There also would be some form of light on a storm filled sky and Hailstones falling, but not the normal light.
The Hailstorm God used these Hailstones to take out the Amorites and helped aid the Israelite soldiers in defeating the Idolatry pagan filled Amorites and show that the Israelite's represented the True God, the God of Israel.
Joshua gives an earthbound perspective of someone standing on the earth, it does appear that the sun and moon does not move (Sun stood still and Moon stopped) or function with a cloudy, overcast and stormy sky like with this Hailstorm God sent in Joshua 10. We ourselves commonly speak of “sunrise” and “sunset”; it is the way we express ourselves or to say a figure of speech (Metaphorically speaking). This day is extended darkness because of the darkness of the Hailstorm and Sun stood still and Moon stopped is just an expression.
