I finally find a old skool craftsman that can explain this on RUclips. I could never do it when I was doing signs in the back in the day. It was all overhead projector on paper then pounce method.

I took "Docs" class in 1999 LA TRADE TECH. Best teacher I ever had. His teachings in Layout Design and color contrasting are what has separated me from all other sign shops

@Steve Chavez Sorry Steve, Just saw your message. I do not know of another way. The only alternative I know is to apply exterior printed vinyl wall graphics. I believe 3M OR Avery carry that. I applied for one for the MOSCOT eyeglass stores on Melrose Avenue, Customer was happy with the final product.

In 1978 I became an apprentice signwriter. 62 now and I found this frustrating and painfully slow hahaha
I just drew in my letters and adjusted then painted but mostly I always made paper drawing to pounce or trace on the substrate. So much easier but took more time but no mistakes were made as a result.

I did the trade too tho started in 86. I struggled with this because I was never thought to how I could understand it and my math was less than ordinary. Projector and or pounce method... I did some large wall sign painting tho the Real expert was on my right hand side marking out the big letters in front of me to follow. This video is Gold

Painted signs for 50 years any of the sign men I worked with could have painted that sign in the time it took him to layout. Time is money.

Don’t be obnoxious. This man is teaching the methods, which takes time to explain the reasons and steps. He’s not making a product in real time for a client. Time is money, you’re correct…and his teaching time is gold for the students to learn these valuable skills.
