So I read a reddit thread on the S supports, I don't know if this is true, but people were saying Persona 5 also didn't have a romance rating in Japan... if it is true, the rating should be taken as a grain of salt then. I was expecting it to be like 3H, which is still what I'm thinking, but I'd love the other S supports brought back too. I can settle for the 3H supports though.
S ranks for a lot of characters don’t always make sense, yeah. I think it would have been nice for more of them in 3H but I wasn’t unhappy to not see them.
On the topic of the Emblem Rings and who might be able to use them: At 6:11, during the clip with Alfred in combat, before he moves away from the party, we can (presumably) see a figure equipped with a lance and Engaged with Sigurd, though their class and identity is unknown. While Alfred's certainly gotten a lot of association with Sigurd, it seems that the unique form Engaging with Sigurd is not limited to Alfred alone. (Edit: I think Louis may be the one using the Sigurd ring and Engaged with him that we see at 6:11, as we can identify most of the other figures present based upon their already-established identities, but the lance-user Engaged with Sigurd is unknown currently; however, we know Loius should be present around that time and also uses lances (it could also be Vander, if he can use lances, as he isn't visible on the map, but it's hard to say and the figure is too indistinct to tell) And at 6:57, during the Marth and Alear combat clip, before they start moving towards their enemy, you can see what looks to be Cramme with Sigurd's ring equipped (note how Sigurd's portrait is to the bottom left of Cramme, like how Marth and Celica are for their wielders). It seems that there's no particular limitation in place for ring usage, given Cramme's only seen using tomes, but I guess we'll see if there needs weapon sharing to use Engage forms, and also in what way the Emblem rings benefit their users (I recall on Twitter, it was said that Marth's ring benefits sword users and increases avoid chances. And I figure Sigurd's helps boost mobility, given we see that Alfred gets 1 move when he equips it back in the announcement trailer, so I think Cramme might get that benefit too when he has it). Speaking of the announcement trailer, we saw Alfred equipped with Marth's ring, in what looks to be the same map where Marth's Twitter clip showed him and Alear. Given there's no indication Alfred can use anything but lances, while Marth certainly seems associated with Alear, it's probable there's no limits on who can get Marth's ring, either. Also, I think it's interesting to see the map that's been shown both in Marth's clip and the trailer, we can see the party composed of who looks like just Alear, Alfred, Celine, Alfred's retainers, and the Dragon guardians, plus two lance-using units off to the right, one who is almost certainly Loius the Armor Knight, and the other being unknown but I'd guess is Chloe the Pegasus Knight. So I think this may be a map shortly after the clip where we meet Alfred for the first time, and in fact be when Alfred, Celine, and their retainers (I'm assuming Chloe and Loius are her retainers, given their presence now) join. Just some observations of mine, looking at the clips currently assembled and compared to the trailers.
I feel it would be strange to not at least have Alear s supports considering they're the avatar and there's people like me would want to romance a character when we have a self insert
Thats not really weird when you remember in the last games, you can marry people who could've been your children, marry your siblings, and marry your students. It can work out
@@anthonytoledo9493 Mikoto literally was smashed by the avatar of a (Fallen) god dragon and you could literally marry illegal characters so honestly marrying a 100yo god it's not that bad
Well he has like a ridersbane in the first trailer lol, but we have also seen that as you upgrade them (or something) there are other weapons available, including Tyrfing (seemingly)
@@lucky_crit Sigurd did? I hadn't noticed that I assumed he and Marth always came with their established regalia. I assumed his synergy with Alfred was horse-related. It's gonna be fun to find out how this stuff will work.
My thoughts on Vander, if he is related to the twins, then I'd think he would be an older uncle. Being only 1 generation separating the 2 would negate grandfather/ grandchildren relationship. That is if they're related otherwise its just a title thing
Imo break effect is not by chance, but actually triggered when you have a weapon advantage. At 1:57, you can see the blue arrow pointing toward the enemy has the word break, and break he do.
If anyone really is worried about not having any romance options, I would just say to not worry about it. Shipping/matchmaking has always been a part of the series, and I doubt that is going to change here. More than likely, I'm going to assume they will do it the same way as they did in Three Houses where only you get to do a full S rank, and should you choose to go after it you will get a cute cutscene at the end of the game and that will be all. Character endings are probably more than likely too, so I would not be worried about it!
From what I can gather, 幸福主義者 is known as a "Eudaimonist" - someone who desires themselves and others to live well and do well (a la "live their best life"). It's a Greek Philosophy term that's very uncommon, so they'll probably translate it to something like "philanthropist."
I expect it to have paired endings, just like in Three Houses. We don't really need S support... never really made sense to get married and even have a child in the middle of the war.
Something I didn't put into account, Is that The Sigurd is shown wielding Tryfing in a Battle animation on the Chapter that Celica fuses , Does this mean The Old Lords can wield more than just the weapon they've shown Like Lucina could also wield Lances , and Byleth could wield other weapons.
The more I see of Engage the more I get excited about it, looking forward to learning more about it and can't wait for it to come out! 5:29 I've checked the Japanese original, it's 幸福主義者 "koufukushugisha" so according to the dictionary "eudemonist", someone who believes happiness/welfare to be natural for humans and the goal of human life (it's way more obvious in Japanese since 幸福 "koufuku" means happiness/welfare, 主義 "shugi" principle and 者 "sha" person).
No S supports is playing with fire. They moved away from Create a character and now S supports. So maybe their trying to return to pre awakening? I just think that a lot of the fans brought in by those mechanics will drop the series if they keep this up.
@xid Even though a lot of what newer fans like was introduced in that game… I’d recommend waiting to see how the remake is handled before making any assumptions about newer fan’s reactions. Also, SoV was a faithful remake of a _much_ less beloved game, and was released on a console that was on its way out, and _also added supports._
@ 6:11 you can see another character besides Alfred engaged with Sigard so I am guessing it will be weapon based... Since we seen Alfred engaged with Sigard already and now this what looks like knight guy engaged with him..
A self-described hedonist spending a lot of time visiting a sleeping vulnerable female is…a bit on the sus side. Oh well, chock it up to some localization issues😂
Damn i would really like to see a support system without the child mechanic. It not only allows for Replay ability For different epilogues. Without the child mechanic we can spend all that development power and to making more unique scenes for the characters are reacting To different things.
I have to say I am not feeling happy with the route FE is taking. I know they want to bring something fresh, but it does not have to be so bizarrely cliche . It’s like a power ranger doing morphing time, or even like a persona summoning. I am a long time fan, and I don’t like the fact that Koei got involved. The best koei did was Dynasty warriors back in the old days, and they destroyed it by adding female characters running around in bikinis with unbelievably huge impossible to carry melee weapons. The artwork just keeps getting more and more extravagant and realistically unsuited for battle. Karate kid style fighters is ridiculous as there is no reason to put any warrior in battle barehanded, unless you wanted him/her to likely die. This implementation is totally from Koei and it freaking sucks. In no fire emblem game before Koei was involved was such a thing even remotely considered. I would really hate to see that they turn this franchise from a magical medieval fairytale, into a bad anime story with art Designs from jojos bizzare adventure. In my opinion they could have given FE a more serious, and realistic approach. What I mean is take inspiration in past game, come up with a unique and really engaging storyline. The art and effect will become monotonous after the first few battles, it reality FE fans don’t really play for the mind blowing effects, because we may actually turn them off to get through a stage faster. We do it for the story, because we immerse in it, and want to feel as if we were actually a meaningful part to it. 😢 I hate to say that my favorite franchise is beginning to fade away, as these developers agenda is just to make this game a generic storyline, and no inspiration for the artwork, but simple reutilizable creations of meaningless games brought out to fill their pockets by fans of the series. I am not excited about this, but sad that I have to embrace this milkshake of bad generic ideas, to satisfy my need of another FE title entry. Some people will say, “oh but maybe it’s not that bad” ….. really since when do we engage a FE title saying maybe it’s not that bad….. Also, “it may be a fun twist” …people is a damn strategy game, the twist is ever lasting once you learn it, the challenge comes when you implement new mechanics, but not ones that are forced to make it tedious and exhausting. Like FE fates weapon upgrade system which was utter garbage, and hence died and never came back. The twist should also be well thought out, not some simple minded cliche, like oh “ I summon a hero from the past in ghost form to aid me in battle”. To my opinion fates is the worst FE entry to this day following the mainline, but this game that’s coming up may be a great contender to that title. I hope the Divine dragon can bring upon us a remake just to get some excitement back for the franchise after seeing this toothpaste disaster. Any comments I’m open.
I would be fine with S-supports being dropped for a simple ending scene tied to giving a "one per playthrough" item to them, kinda like the Merc Whistle in Three Hopes, another game that also doesn't have S-supports... But since Alear is a divine dragon, i wonder how they are gonna handle individual endings... Do you just pick someone to be your "special" observer after the end of the game, or are they gonna go full manic and either make Alear mortal, or even your support partner immortal like you? The two versions of the MC have mirrored looks, so i'm speculating if the one you don't go with will have significance for the story, and your support partner might end up having to store their divine power within themselves after you defeat them to avoid making the power go berserk or something, granting them the same powers and longevity as you, allowing you to spend a few thousand years with them, watching over the land below... It sounds cheesy, i know, but if they have balls, they would include the support partner saying a sad goodbye to someone else special to them, since you have to go into hiding to safeguard both of your divine powers, forcing them to give up their family and friends, and now only having you as a lasting friend/love for the next several thousand years!
I’m surprised to see so many people advocate for S-supports/child units. I think the marriage/child shtick only truly worked in FE4. In Awakening and Fates it felt very awkward to me (especially Fates, but I at least liked the child characters in that game). I’d be ok if they never bring it back, or just keep the S supports on Alear like Three Houses did with Byleth. I much prefer the paired ending route 3H took with the characters.
I think where at least getting paired ending like in the Han games and 3 houses where they go to a and then the characters who have the highest bond get paired together and maybe there is a event at the end of the game where the avatar (I can’t spell there name) get married like 3 houses and the lords in the epilogue of fe 6 and 7. I mean why would they cut romance pairings? Especially if the rumours are true and fe 4 remake is next. It’s the game the introduced the whole pair two random units thing. I know it wasn’t as relevant as newer games. It was mainly so you can get the child units but still it would be weird.

Wonder if he got ambushed by a witch doctor who tried shrinking his head, but got halfway done only. That has got to be the only explanation for his small head compared to his body.
Echoes didn't had S supports and still made some Canon pairings Also without them we won't have some questionable s supports falling into romance route because yes like Fates and Awakening
I feel I should mention that *I believe the twins' names are pronounced like "flun" and "clun",* the sound of the "a" being closer to the "a" in spanish or italian. The reason is the way the japanese names are written: フラン (Furan) and クラン (Kuran). *When japanese write foreign names, they focus on how it sounds rather than the way it's written.* That's why the name Ray WOULDN'T be written as ライ(Rai), but INSTEAD be written as レイ(Rei), because the japanese レ(Re) sounds the most similar to the "Ra" in Ray. *The same way, if the names were to be pronounced like Flan and Clan in english, they would be フレン(Furen) and クレン (Kuren) instead.* So Flan and Clan are likely meant to be pronounced like you would in a language like spanish or italian: "flun" and "clun".
Honestly, I'm not really impressed with this game so far. Maybe it's because I loved 3H and I'm biased. But bringing back characters from previous games feels a little cheap in my opinion. If Marth and co. play an actual role in the story other than a power up, then I'll be happy. Hopefully more trailers and some gameplay clips will change my perspective of the game.
well seeing how the game has engage in the title's name it will be surprising if there are no s supports and if marriage won't be apart of the story in some way
It’s insane to me that they would step away from S-Rank support (only MC getting it was fine in 3H) and offspring (I understand that this doestnt fit every story) because of how popular they are. All my friends and myself freaking loved the kids in Awakening and Fates… just didn’t like that they made their parents mostly obsolete.
I’m kinda confused about this game I came into the series with 3 houses so I’m hoping I won’t need to play all the other games to understand the story in this one
While S rank support and marriage worked in Awakening, it made no sense in Fates, was unnecessary in 3H. I only know the traditional support from the GBA titles of Fire Emblem, such as Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones. This is the support I prefer. Also, the removal character portrait cut in when doing a critical is better. Doesn’t cut the flow of battle too much this way. But the fact it zooms in on the character’s face for a bit still interrupts the battle. I would prefer the traditional critical animation, especially the GBA one.
That we know of... yet. Some folks also brought up the rating for the game which seems to also lend to this speculation, but we are just gonna have to see
I guess we'll see what they do with the supports. I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't include them. But you never know. Even with that screenshot there's certainly room to add the S in there if this was too early of a build. Or it could just be very restrictive for certain characters. One of those things that will certainly become clear the closer to release we get. Game looks good. Framme seems like a fun character both in personality and in combat. Will enjoy letting her roundhouse kick a bunch of enemies!
This essentially. Like the Alear in that image is Female do the character could be gay and unromancable for her, or it could be an early build, or you don't even get the option until late game. Or they're going back to just A supports having the romance.
I'm going to double down on that since you showed a clip of a monk breaking an archer and we know that in this game the weapon triangle is Tome>Brawl>Archer.
Honestly I wouldn’t mind not having S supports/marriage in this games (yes even with the MU). Most of my controversial FE hot takes deal with the support system so like I said I wouldn’t be upset if there wasn’t any S supports in Emgage
I hope S supports are still a thing. I'm already hesitant about this game. I'm getting it regardless just cause it's FE, however this is definitely the least excited I've been for a FE game outside of 3 hopes but I didn't get 3 hopes
I really hope I don’t wake up and a bunch of anime characters are like, “You finally woke up!!” Because then you know you’re about to confront some sh$t.
I am happy to see S Supports go. 3H handled supports the best in the series up til now tbh. ...But man, am I getting major Corrin vibes from the protag. I had hoped 3 Hopes' meant we'd be getting better, more flavorful protagonists going forward, but it seems like that isn't going to be the case.

On the topic of the Emblem Rings and who might be able to use them:
At 6:11, during the clip with Alfred in combat, before he moves away from the party, we can (presumably) see a figure equipped with a lance and Engaged with Sigurd, though their class and identity is unknown. While Alfred's certainly gotten a lot of association with Sigurd, it seems that the unique form Engaging with Sigurd is not limited to Alfred alone.
(Edit: I think Louis may be the one using the Sigurd ring and Engaged with him that we see at 6:11, as we can identify most of the other figures present based upon their already-established identities, but the lance-user Engaged with Sigurd is unknown currently; however, we know Loius should be present around that time and also uses lances (it could also be Vander, if he can use lances, as he isn't visible on the map, but it's hard to say and the figure is too indistinct to tell)
And at 6:57, during the Marth and Alear combat clip, before they start moving towards their enemy, you can see what looks to be Cramme with Sigurd's ring equipped (note how Sigurd's portrait is to the bottom left of Cramme, like how Marth and Celica are for their wielders).
I'm hoping they at least have romantic supports like in Three Houses, where you just can't complete the S support until the end of the game.
I feel it would be strange to not at least have Alear s supports considering they're the avatar and there's people like me would want to romance a character when we have a self insert
That my exact thought. My imagination can fill in at worst but I liked those little end scenes with that proposal to Byleth.
Counterpoint: it’d be really weird for a literal god to marry a random mortal person. Especially if said god sleeps for 100 years at a time.
@@anthonytoledo9493 yet Corrin a half dragon(to a Demi god)can or Tiki can marry Robin not a good argument…
"Alfred who uses lances fuses with Sigurd" ah yes Sigurd and his famous lance usage
Who could forget that moment where Arvis gave Sigurd the silver lance?
I mean, he can use them.
Yeah some of the Emblem Heroes use two weapons
Pretty much what I’m expecting you really shouldn’t need an S rank just for those endings they can tweak it in this game!
From what I can gather, 幸福主義者 is known as a "Eudaimonist" - someone who desires themselves and others to live well and do well (a la "live their best life"). It's a Greek Philosophy term that's very uncommon, so they'll probably translate it to something like "philanthropist."
This is reminding me of the GBA era FE a lot, and I am 100% for it 😤👌🏻
If you mean the support and critical, I agree - but could do without the zoom in on the character face bit.
Framme and Cramme seem like they're expies of Jacob and Felicia.
Good analysis!! Makes me excited to play
Thanks for watching!
I love matchmaking, but I also quite liked the open flirtation and room for headcanons in Three Hopes.
Dorothea x everyone
@@lucky_crit Pretty sure Monica would murder her.
I expect it to have paired endings, just like in Three Houses. We don't really need S support... never really made sense to get married and even have a child in the middle of the war.
Bro think of little Ronnie on the battlefield
@@lucky_crit SOLEIL!
dang its been 3 years since Three houses
Something I didn't put into account, Is that The Sigurd is shown wielding Tryfing in a Battle animation on the Chapter that Celica fuses , Does this mean The Old Lords can wield more than just the weapon they've shown Like Lucina could also wield Lances , and Byleth could wield other weapons.
S supports might just be end game like 3 houses. I don't think we will see them return until we get a reason for inheritance again.
I think a better analogy then a marth corpse would of been Tiki? You know… the divine dragon who takes long periods of sleep 😂
That's fair but Tiki isn't the main character whose body you are within lol
@@lucky_crit I guess the running gag is that the Manaketes/dragons all need to sleep to contain their power right? Our new protagonist seems the same.
Thanks for telling us about the synchronized blinking. Now all of us cannot unsee it xD
I know!! It freaking me out. Lol
"Alear's body has been widely known about" well with a body like that...
With a hairstyle like that......
This is exactly what I was waiting for
No S supports is playing with fire. They moved away from Create a character and now S supports. So maybe their trying to return to pre awakening? I just think that a lot of the fans brought in by those mechanics will drop the series if they keep this up.
Not to mention the next game is a remake so we don’t know how that will perform with the modern fans.
"It's your lucky day!" Got me haha! Sylvain whyyy?! Lol 😆
@ 6:11 you can see another character besides Alfred engaged with Sigard so I am guessing it will be weapon based... Since we seen Alfred engaged with Sigard already and now this what looks like knight guy engaged with him..
We saw Sigurd fuse with a character other than Alfred in a gameplay clip
A self-described hedonist spending a lot of time visiting a sleeping vulnerable female is…a bit on the sus side. Oh well, chock it up to some localization issues😂
I notice that Cramme's ponytail clips through his shoulder a bunch in the cutscenes and now I can't stop seeing it. Its really bothering me.
Now I can’t I see that they blink at the same time.
Also, supports only going to A isn’t a guarantee of quality.
I would like a support system similar to Awakening but with much fewer S ranks. Quality over quantity, but hopefully we get at least something
Did they remove weapon durability because of the break mechanic? I wonder if that new mechanic will break your weapon or not.
Why does the video trail off at the end? It was pretty jarring
It's a preview for another video, if you wanted to hear more of that conversation, go check out my analysis of the Engage trailer. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll see what I can do

I don't lie
He also looks like Faerghast!
@@LtSMASH324 I was thinking that too!
Wonder if he got ambushed by a witch doctor who tried shrinking his head, but got halfway done only. That has got to be the only explanation for his small head compared to his body.
Echoes didn't had S supports and still made some Canon pairings
Also without them we won't have some questionable s supports falling into romance route because yes like Fates and Awakening
@xid that's because when It came out

Marth after being called for the fourth time to help people: 💀
I feel I should mention that *I believe the twins' names are pronounced like "flun" and "clun",* the sound of the "a" being closer to the "a" in spanish or italian.
Hopefully more trailers and some gameplay clips will change my perspective of the game.
the more i look at cramme the more i'm convinced the lead art is Venti fan
I'm excited!
well seeing how the game has engage in the title's name it will be surprising if there are no s supports and if marriage won't be apart of the story in some way
They better be returning
It’s insane to me that they would step away from S-Rank support (only MC getting it was fine in 3H) and offspring (I understand that this doestnt fit every story) because of how popular they are. All my friends and myself freaking loved the kids in Awakening and Fates… just didn’t like that they made their parents mostly obsolete.
Well the more we hear the more it seems they stepped away from romance in the game completely. Which is dissapointing but oh well.
I’m kinda confused about this game I came into the series with 3 houses so I’m hoping I won’t need to play all the other games to understand the story in this one
Probably not, but you won't know who the ring characters are. Maybe you will like them enough to go and try their games later, though!
Since it's not alear at the top.. it's definitely locked to alear only
Hit landing animation and their weak sound effects were the major flaw of Three Houses.
Glad Koei Tecmo is no longer in charge of that.
Framme is bae.
Good S rank support and romance options not being in FE Engage.
No dating simulator feels bad
Cramme throwing spells while his sister is throwing hands.
S Support in of itself is fine in Fates for the Partner Seal and better buffs. The kids just didn't make sense.
I can’t wait for the *next* fire emblem game 😆
Would suck if romance removed.
Soo.... Alear is kinda Ashera?
Damn no S supports
That we know of... yet. Some folks also brought up the rating for the game which seems to also lend to this speculation, but we are just gonna have to see
Assume the avatar will have S supports only
Not like Three Houses really had S supports.
Doing the traditional support is better. Marriage and S support worked in Awakening, made no sense in Fates, and was unnecessary in 3H.
@@kentknightofcaelin4537 only with Byleth but just make them extra endings without the need of a S with characters that can apply.
framme and cramme as names are almost as bad as dedue but not quite
Yo I love Dedue and his name but agreed about Framme and Cramme
it looks like flyers and cavs can just use swords axes and lances so im wondering if its like 3 houses when it comes to weapon equips
Isn't the only one we see use an Axe a Great Knight?
Having that option is kinda their thing
@@1stCallipostle we saw enemy Cavalry and pegknights with axe sword and lances between the available clips and trailers
I mean 3H had special magic cavalry
Do you think it'll have Iron Man?
You can always iron man things in one way or another lol
Where's the s support!?!? I need s support!!!
break => the result of attacking an ennemy with a weapon that counters his?!
I'm going to double down on that since you showed a clip of a monk breaking an archer and we know that in this game the weapon triangle is Tome>Brawl>Archer.
Also the break with the lance is done on a sword user and Lance>Sword>Axe
NO S RANK?!? LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Not cool, I loved pairing my characters. Probably won't buy it and just stick to 3DS titles then.
The French inspired Fire Emblem game named "Engage" may not have S support ? :-O
Blaaaaaaasphemy !
its weird that they are just visiting someone sleeping, so do they just watch them sleep?
Honestly I wouldn’t mind not having S supports/marriage in this games (yes even with the MU). Most of my controversial FE hot takes deal with the support system so like I said I wouldn’t be upset if there wasn’t any S supports in Emgage
theres enough space for s support and the build is early. the japanese rating has always been inaccurate look at rune factory
what no S rank no a lot of this girls have WAIFU CHARM screaming at me
i just hate the main character hair like it went “X” no yuck !!

Fire Emblem: No engage :(
I hope S supports are still a thing. I'm already hesitant about this game. I'm getting it regardless just cause it's FE, however this is definitely the least excited I've been for a FE game outside of 3 hopes but I didn't get 3 hopes
Not feeling fem Alear just can’t get into her baby face. Guess I’ll play male Alear. Suppose it’s cool played female since Corrin.
If i'm the enemy and i'm being defeated by this band of pansies i would just quit.

Ok we’re doing the Camilla thing again huh fire emblem
let’s be honest another sylvain too bad
I really hope I don’t wake up and a bunch of anime characters are like, “You finally woke up!!” Because then you know you’re about to confront some sh$t.
I am happy to see S Supports go. 3H handled supports the best in the series up til now tbh.
...But man, am I getting major Corrin vibes from the protag. I had hoped 3 Hopes' meant we'd be getting better, more flavorful protagonists going forward, but it seems like that isn't going to be the case.
I absolutely hate frammes hair. The way her braid is literally glued to the models shoulder is so noticeable it hurts
Noooooooooooo
