The mission of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program includes advancing surgery in Oklahoma and beyond by training surgeons to become skilled clinicians, pioneering researchers and future leaders.
The program aims to train residents who excel in a variety of practice environments from the remote rural setting to the tertiary care academic environment with ongoing dedication to quality patient care and lifelong learning. Furthermore, we strive to assure residents are successful in the pursuit of advanced training if desired. This is accomplished through a curriculum that emphasizes tertiary care, but also has opportunities to experience community and rural practice settings with minimal competition from senior fellows. We support scholarship and professional development along with skills and knowledge acquisition through faculty and staff who are committed to resident education in a setting of strong departmental support.
