The way a man treats his mother seems to be a good indicator. But there are pitfalls to that way of evaluation.
What is more important is to observe the man's relationship with Jesus Christ. Now this is a better way to evaluate all men.
Voddie Baucham says it the best. Prior to any man being in the position to even date, he should be able to:
1. Be Prophet-like, in other words be able to rightly handle God's Word and disciple the woman God brings said man.
2. Be Priest-like, in other words, be able to pray appropriately. Be a praying man. Praying for himself, his family, his future family etc
3. Be a Protector. Protect his family from not just physical threats but ideologies which may enter his household like feminism, secular humanism etc.
4. Be a Provider. He must have a job. Provide physical things like a home. But more importantly provide the Love and Mercy God has shown him. Towards his future family.
