Hi everyone! This is Dootsie’s granddaughter from her RUclips page that I run for her. I wanted to let you all know how much all the comments mean to her.
Thank you so so much for all your kind words, it means the world to hear from all of you that she has touched. We sit and read the comments together and just cry happy tears over some of your stories. Mamaw prays for each and every one of you. She is so thankful, she feels like she has thousands of new friends. She is everything to us, and I’m so humbled that she has lightened some of your days as well.
And Mark, thank you for having her and sharing her with the world. Mamaw thinks the world of you and now she loves to watch your videos and keep up with you and prays you’re always safe in your travels! ❤️

I have never commented before; but let me tell you, when she started singing…something woke up within me & struck me like lightning to my very core. Chills instantly from head to toe. My Momma was from Appalachia & I lost her when I was 11. I’m about to be 40 in August & hearing her talk, her love of family through all the hardships, her faith, her experiences & just mostly her desire to be in those mountains…man, after all these years it just brought up feelings I ain’t felt since I was a little girl. I love this sister in Christ. She is a true treasure. I am from Southeastern Kentucky and her life sounds like my family's. My paw, granddaddy, worked in the coal mines and dug Graves for a living. When he was 42 years old he lost both legs when a mining car ran over them. He and Maw had 6 kids at that time and later added 3 more. They always had 2 big gardens, Maw and the girls canned everything that they could. They would raise a hog for meat, they had a cow for milk, chickens and turkeys. I hated that Tom turkey, it always chased me. They had a spring for water and a red cast iron pump on the sink. Sometimes a water dog, crawl dad or a frog would come through with the water. We were always very excited to see one. There's more, but I will stop here. Getting back to Dootsie, hearing her sing that song touched my heart and I cried the whole time that she sung. It truly touched my heart. She is a good woman. GOD love her always.

I felt that exact same thing. I know what it is , and I believe you do too ❤. If you have roots in the mountains, they'll call to u to come back home. Wether it's a song or just the right scent in the air or a warm breeze. The mountains call us back home more often than we realize.

I got teary eyed listening to her. She told my moms story of growing up. They were poor with a dozen kids. Maybe for Christmas they got a piece of fruit and some candy and were grateful for it. they had oil lamps and toted water. God bless this lady with a long and healthy life

Same here. My momma and daddy grew up in dust bowl Oklahoma. Poor and nothing but work from daylight to dark. Same thing, Dad didnt get any Christmas at home but they had a party at school and he got a pair of sock and an orange. He said he felt like a King. My momma always got a little something but it was like some candy and paper doll maybe. All of this precious lady’s talk reminded me of them. They had a strong faith in the Lord also. My dad was first person I. His family to go to college after he was in the army he went on the GI bill and became a a tax preparer and worked for Social Security. He believed in giving a hand up to anyone even if they didn’t “deserve” it.

      I feel the same way.
Ever since I was a little preschool child, I was always drawn to older folks, elders, grandma’s and grandpa’s. I would sit at their feet for hours just listening to every word that was said. My own Granny was my best friend since I was tiny. I would spend as much time with her as I could when I was growing up. As a teen, I spent many Sunday evenings at a local nursing home visiting with those that lived there to hear their life stories. I began doing this with my own children when they were little ones as they grew up too.
It is life changing to listen to our elders life stories and hear the lessons that they have learned in life. Their lives are volumes of wisdom that can never be replaced or bought with silver and gold.
      Bless you Miss Dootsie.

I love talking to elderly people ❤. We can all learn so much from them. One of my fondest childhood memories is listening to this old man that lived in our small northern town of 500 people. His name was Ned, he lived alone but we all knew him. He was such a sweet person. We use to go to his house to rake his leaves in the fall and he would make us cookies. We would go into his small house, with literally nothing in it, and sit on the floor in front of him in his rocking chair. He would tell us stories about his youth. This was in the early 1960s. He once told us a story about when he was little and his dad was driving the horses and a man in a uniform came walking by. He was a Confederate soldier from the Civil War. He told them the war was over and had been for a few weeks. Ned said they lived very remotely in the south so they didn't get a newspaper or anything for news. Ned said his dad jumped up and down yelling the wars over!! Ned said he was about 4 but remberd it well. To hear a live person talk about meeting a real Civil War soldier was amazing. How blessed we kids were to have a real life history book❤. Ned lived until he was 105 years old. He was tuff but such a REAL man!!! I will never forget him or his life stories ❤...
