As someone from Latin America, I am so glad that the progressive movement didn't succeed in taking complete power in the US. It is scary to see people like you still to this day advocating for "one America". That only translates into war and conquest. It means monetary and armed support for violent revolutionaries to create chaos in Latin America to make it "safe for democracy".
@@AncientMarinerNY I think that was a lofty goal he had for a distant future. But he really was a man who valued democracy, human rights and dignity for every average man. He was beloved when he visited all the Latin American countries. I think his ideas have a universal appeal. But yes I agree, given America’s history of terrorism and military adventurism, the rest of the nations should fear our talk about unity
@@AncientMarinerNY Yeah, just imagine living in the timeline where the U.S. supported violent revolution and created chaos in Latin America. Thank God the progressive movement failed and that nightmare never came to fruition.

His speech reminds me of how I feel when I look back on the end of the Cold War. The US had a chance to make itself and the world a better place. Instead, it chose to squander that window of opportunity by trying to usher in a new Cold War in order to continue lining the pockets of vested interests at the expense of the masses.
blame your hero FDR for that. He supported the Communist regime when it was on it's death bed, then gave them unlimited license to hijack eastern Europe. With Germany and Japan utterly destroyed there was little to push back against them.

Freedoms, rights, and priviledges, are not the same thing. If freedom and rights, can be withdrawn because you don't accept duty, they are not freedoms, or rights, they're priviledges. As George Carlin said 'Pay attention to the language we've all agreed on'
Or FDR dying a year earlier. There would have been no Cold War, Italy and France would have been Stalinist puppet states, and the new State of Israel would have controlled the entire former Palestine Mandate.

Unfortunately, the fact that the president and political leaders praised and supported Mussolini for most of his reign, as well as providing economic support to Hitler until it no longer proved economically advantageous, makes much of this speech fall flat. But this certainly has never proven to be beneficial to this narrative, so it is always omitted. "A People's History of the United States" should be required reading for everyone.
Let's not forget that we gave Korea to the Japanese.. And then after ww2 when the Koreans fought for their freedom from Japanese occupation? We installed the very same dictators back into power in South Korea.. and Flew in a Dictator from out of country.. Syngman Rhee.... All this done under Truman for his banker buddies.
Chris Hedges took Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States into the max. security prison where he teaches and gave his students each a copy! He mentions it in many of his talks, he is a truly admirable man, as was Zinn.

He really loved Mexico, spoked spanish and he wanted an only America: unity and complete continent, he really was a great man 👏

Even more true in 2017 though America now seems to be working for an opposite outcome. We are hypocrites now!
