That was cool about being raised a Catholic. I was always taught to love and forgive other people and stuff, kind of for the wrong reasons, but it's still a pretty cool thing to have in your brain since your childhood. Now, as a non-believer, I still hold onto a lot of the (good) values that Christianity has taught me and some of Jesus' stories as well because they are quite poetic and inspiring. Like "love your neighbour", "don't lie", "help others" and stuff.

I actually think that if i was forced to pick a religion i'd probably choose Buddhism cuz i basically have NO bad experience with it and i know for certain that Buddhists tend to be very kind and tolerant people
Philosophy, not religion.
Brooke Poeschl i agree that it is a philosophy but buddhism is still considered a Religion and is thereby even under the top 8 religions
Freeze Cheeze Look at Srilanka and Myanmar.
B S That’s absolutely incorrect. Buddhism is very spiritual and so it’s a religion.
B S bhuddists are subscribers of a religion seeing as one way or another they believe in a creation story and some form of the supernatural. Alan Watts' version of bhuddism, "western bhuddism" can be seen as more of a philosophy than a religion because he takes the science we know and poetically links it to the aspects of bhuddism that are philosophical and arent supernatural.
If that's why you got into youtube, in my book, you've succeeded. Too many people are just bombastic and shouty when they "debate" each other, whereas you're much more focused on delivering a well-thought-out argument. And, at the risk of being jumped on by commenters who disagree with me, I'd also like to say I appreciate that your channel has remained focused on atheism, and hasn't devolved into attacks on feminists as so many other channels have.

It’s so cool finding individuals whom you respect intellectually within your field of study (Poli Sci and Philosophy). One thing I still struggle with in my college endeavors is giving my own 2 cents on the arguments of well-educated scholars. When someone’s rhetorical prowess far outstrips my own, I find that it’s hard to resist simply agreeing with them without raising objections or prying for further exploration. I think perhaps separating the arguments from their author and looking at them objectively should rectify this problem to an extent.
Congrats Alex! You earned it! I love watching your videos, while we disagree on God, we share a lot in common belief wise and you always give me food for thought. I wish you many more years of success!

I've always found it kind of interesting how you've never brought up Judaism or any non-Abrahamic religion in your videos. I'd like to hear your opinions on some.
The Jews don't proselytize, and many Jews are atheist or have a traditional, cultural identity. Debunking religions that aren't searching for converts is kinda uninteresting. Islam and Christianity have the numbers, the wild claims and eternal threats that make it fun.
@@gypsyduffles1309 this.
Christianity and islam are the drunk brothers of the religious world.
my parents and sister are trying to show me proof of God because I believe science can explain things better than faith, they gave me the dice speech and i explained that, they told me life has never been seen on other planets so I explained that we can't reach out there and there are theories and we are still searching til this day, they keep insisting there must be a higher power but there just isn't in my mind, I am agnostic because I used to be Catholic, fear of God was grinded into my mind so I'm still afriad even though I don't even think there is one, but my mind says that just in case I should give it a chance, I try to be respectful about my opinions on the existence of a higher power but this is truly infuriating.

You shouldn't be dogmatic and irrational just because God "Could" choose to only give heaven to those types. There are an infinite of other alternatives, such as God only accepting Muslims, or God only accepting believers that came to that belief rationally, or God only accepting rational thinkers rather than believers or non believers. How much money they spent on that changed with fashion and available resources. I think people would have still put considerable resources into art without thinking that they are appeasing a deity. Also funds are not all that determines the quality and diversity of art. I found the mosques in Istanbul rather boring from the inside, because religious rules prevented them from depicting anything.
I'm from Oklahoma, and all the architecture in Europe blew my mind when I was there with the army. However, when I saw Versaille I was disappointed, but when I saw The Residenz in Wurzburg, Germany I had such a sense of discovery. It was great.

Ugh, you said "believe in evolution". This sentence always sends chills down my spine. Evolution happened, it's as clear as day that it did. It doesn't need "belief", the evidence speaks for itself. It's like the Pythagorean theorem, which has about 367 proofs and counting. Nobody says "I believe in the Pythagorean theorem" either xD It's true whether they believe it or not.
(Nothing against you btw, just wanted to rant about that sentence in general :D)
THIS! And when people say "I believe in science", I have a very strange feeling of not understanding what does that person mean with that statement. Believe in science as a concept? Believe that it works? Believe that science can lead humanity to better future? What is it?!
Lol yeah. Science is observation and logical reasoning. It's pretty hard to "believe" in that. If you observe an object on Earth falling, and an object on the Moon falling, then you conclude that gravity on the Moon is lower than earth's gravity... You don't "believe" that, it IS so and the observations prove it. The whole point of science is so that you do not need to believe anything anymore, you'll know things for sure.
If someone were arguing that the Pythagorean theorem doesn't work, I would still say "I believe it works" and try to explain how it works... the same way I believe in Gravity, the laws of thermodynamics, the moon, that Australia exists, that the Queen of England is not a reptile, that the earth is a spheroid, that there are no 'space jews', and that AIDS is real.
Did you happen to see evolution by any chance because if not you're making a fool of yourself
