The Dutch team at World Cup 98 had a classic line-up, quality all over the park and some real superstars in all the right places. The overall standard at World Cup 98 was so much better than any of the last 3 World Cups: more entertainment, better headline stories (Ronaldo, Beckham, Zidane), better gamaes and the goal from Bergkamp in this game is the ultimate goal. Amazing.

What made it more infuriating was that Argentina would have played Brazil in the semi-final had they won, and that would've been an all time classic! It's a pity they couldn't win this World Cup or last year's but frankly speaking the 1998 squad was far better than the one in South Africa. Hopefully in 2014 the Oranje can finally get their hands on the elusive Cup. It would be a tall order to win in Brazil though seeing that European team don't seem to fare too well when the WC is played in the Americas.

Holland and Argentina were among the best 4 teams in this tournament. It is kind of sad that they played each other in the quarterfinal, but that is how the cookie crumbles sometimes. Bergkamp was world class; Ortega was a really good crafty player too, but he could do without the excessive diving.

I cried when Argentina lost this match because I was a Batistuta nut. I larked on about him throughout 1998 and 1999, that's what all I ever talked about at the time.
And ofcourse we qualified for 2010. We were amongst the first European countries to qualify as expected. We didn't had any trouble in 2006 either. We'll be practicing against Italy, Paraguay, USA and the UK. Looking forward to it.

I cried when Argentina lost this match because I was a Batistuta nut. I larked on about him throughout 1998 and 1999, that's what all I ever talked about at the time.
And ofcourse we qualified for 2010. We were amongst the first European countries to qualify as expected. We didn't had any trouble in 2006 either. We'll be practicing against Italy, Paraguay, USA and the UK. Looking forward to it.

One of the best goals I've EVER seen. The ball control on Bergkamp was amazing. I still don't know how he was able to control it and THEN beat Ayala. It was skill but also fitness. Bergkamp was in tremendous shape and through speed and strength was able to beat Ayala.

this world cup was the best cause then teams played for win, glory and because of the passion for soccer/football. Not like today when players and teams play just for money. Soccer then was much more passionate and better to watch.

Everyone remembers this match because of the amazing goal of Bergkamp. But for me the best part is the headbutt. It looks like van der Sar gets accidentally headbutted. But if you look closer you see van der Sar running very fast to Ortega after the dive and before Ortega could get up. VAN DER SAR WANTED TO GET A HEADBUTT!!!
one, two, three....goal! One of the most memorable goals in history from Bergkamp. Argentina were up to their old dirty tricks and happily they lost. Will still support them against England though, for political reasons.

" the will to win is why i support arg and also italy. you see it in the eyes of the players they will do everything to win! and italy and germany are also not poor, still they have the will. and italy can also create beatyful football, it is just not their biggest aim, but they can and have shown it many times.
