Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker: Playing together, winning apart, Celtics observations

- It was the year 1998 when Paul Pierce came into the league and linked up with Antoine Walker to become one of the most promising young duos in the NBA during the lockout year. Both players were 20-point-per-game scorers and both players were All-Stars. Yet they couldn’t punch through in the postseason, which led Danny Ainge to break them apart. About 25 years after they first became teammates, the duo sits down to remember their time together, their breakup when Walker was traded (plus their reunion when Walker returned), watching each other win titles from afar, their observations of this year’s team, and the parallels between their partnership and that of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
0:22 - Remembering the early years together
3:27 - Learning how to win as young players
14:27 - Pierce watching Walker win a title from afar, then celebrating with him in Chicago
17:48 - Walker’s return to the Celtics and the “two-star” formula
22:53 - Parallels between Pierce/Walker and Tatum/Brown
32:40 - Having two star players who play a similar position
38:20 - Walker tells story of nudging Kevin Garnett to accept trade to Celtics

Antoine, Paul, Toni Battie, Eric Williams, kenny anderson, Rodney Rogers, tony delk, Walter, Eric strickland, I miss the 02 team
Me too
I believe if the Celtics made it to the nba finals in 2002 against the lakers celtics would've took them to six
@@tylerriley2587wade never played as bad as Paul pierces did in 2002 in his prime he the reason they lost 23 ppg in his prime and he talking dwade get the f out of here wade was avg 27 or more in his prime especially in the playoffs 😴
Walter McCarty (I think his name wrong) his 3s was killing my sixers in that 02 series
To this day that 2002 squad with Eric Williams, Kenny Anderson, and Tony Battie is my favorite Celtics team of all time
I'll never forget when these two went into LA against the Shaq and Kobe Lakers and Toine hit the game-winner off the glass. What a time to be alive
Big thanks to Danny Ainge for bringing the big three together, so we could get that championship😊
Thank Kevin Mchale for gifting KG to the Celtics
Love hearing Celtics Alumni supporting the current squad ☘
Between Bird,McHale and Parish period and Antoine and Paul period it was soooo rough. These two were the stepping stone to get their Big Three in 2008. In other words, thank you Antoine Walker.
Antoine was the guy in Boston much respect to him he hooped for us.
Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce was the original Steph in Klay Thompson grew up watching Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker they made a good duo🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🏆🏆
If only Ainge had not traded Walker, but I'm glad both men got a title before retirement with different teams.
They definitely wont

Great episode. Loved all the insight that the fans don't know about. We need ray Allen on the episode soon
Grande look like skips son
I hope Jaylen Brown & Antoine Walker work out next season 💪🔥💪
I hope you move out of your mommy's basement next year too
Walker needs cardio real bad😂
Antoine walker is so underrated
Cool story about Antoine telling KG it would be great to go to Boston, glad he appreciated us fans ☘️
Excellent interview! It was such a treat to see those together! Good conversation and vibes throughout. Thank you for this!
💚☘🏀
These guys were fun to watch
Paul and Antoine kept us coming to games because they had chemistry and it was exciting. Yeah we had Walter in the corner Tony Delk looking so badass like he's crossing the yard in prison but that's not depth and no matter how many trades were made it was always on Walker and Pierce. When Antoine was traded we were pissed.
If you weren't at the Garden when Antoine came back with the Mavs for the first time you don't realize how long that Ovation went on for. It was crazy. Eventually we saw what Danny Angel was doing but Antoine you are very much loved in Boston..
Me too I was so damn upset when ainge broke up walker and pierce. He'll now that I am older I watched that celtics and nets playoff series in 2003 and you could tell that the seeds were planted and ainge was going to blow up the roster.
Dude with the red cap look like a skinny Vince McMahon 😂

Twan is on point i. His assessment of the J's
I still remember when Antoine was on fire, he just start catch and shoot from the logo lol
The Walker wiggle
Point Forward 'Toine.
View from the Rafters and Locked on Celtics are my favorite Celtics podcasts!
Probably the best duo in Celtics’ history before JJ. Still remember the 2002 ECF 4th quarter comeback against Nets, 41-16❤
Ummm have you heard of Bird/McHale?
@@Mu5icPr0ducerthere great in that era, they ain’t winning against pierce and walker’s competition
@@marksines1246what 😮
@marksines1246 do you know who Larry Bird was? Stop it 😂😂😂

Great interview! Toine and Paul were great together!
Duo now nba champions
Employee number 8
Underrated Celtics duo
I love Walker, but he didn't win a ring with the Celtics.
Paul and Antoine y'all shot a lot of three's but unlike Steph and Klay y'all wasn't as efficient.
Wow walker put on the lbs
Go Lakers …
Boring interview… get young cool hosts 😴
Who are these two tho with P and Antoine? 🤔😏
