Trip Hop was a 90's early 2000's sub genre, blending hip-hop, jazz, blues and psychedelic rock, Portishead, Massive Attack and Tricky are the most iconic groups, but Sneaker Pimps, Morcheeba, Goldfrapp, Hooverphonic and several other artists and groups all contributed to it, with 6 Underground by the Sneaker Pimps probably being the most well known song from the genre, at least in regards to American listeners!
Now I'm wondering if I'm secretly been a trip-hop lover because I had a favorite song from most of these bands. Though one band I detest, I don't know why, I just never could vibe with their stuff that I heard.
@@andidreyes5323 Sounds like it to me, don't worry just because there are some bands you can't get into, it's such a broad genre that covers so many different sounds. Some tracks are far more hip hop, others being more electronic and still others that sound like they are straight out of 50's bar and music lounge, with that film Noir feel to them.
This band turned me onto a lot of different underground trip hop ( I guess if they identify with that ) ... and I'm a super-picky elitist snobby jazz, funk, and classic rock junkie. These guys helped me appreciate the minimalism in music. Miles Davis is credited with saying 'It's not what you play, it's what you don't play.' And Trip Hop from this time is one of the best examples of that approach. Keep going. Massive Attack is another band you might like some songs from as well. Cheers... I like your reactions. Keep it up.
Massive Attack along with Portishead were the 2 stand out groups of the 90s for me they both brought something a bit different to the table, both groups still sound fresh today
Love Beth Gibbons the vocalist, Portishead were something a bit different back in the 90s, if you fancy another song by the group try out Sour Times👌
