Land pocket? No sir, around here we call them land shipping containers. Earlier today, I kept 6 with a 3 lander, and by turn 8 when I died, I had seen 15 of my lands, and played 4 spells. Arena is so fun! Thank goodness for the videos, I genuinely admire your chill in the face of incredibly tilting events.
The shuffler is actually rigged to cause win rates of good and bad players to slightly balance out. Not even joking. It keeps the bad players spending when they see alot of nut draws or their better opponent receives twice as many lands as spells, or 7 of one color and none of the other. If you run 100,000 games the stats dont match the actual percentages of drawing x. Its not even that bad players receive a handicap, its just designed for more ""non-games" than the percentages say should occur. The number of land pockets and size of them also does not match the actual percentages. There is CLEARLY a built in algorithm designed to keep people spending. This is typical of online casinos and other shady online games and now its in magic the gathering too.
Paul one day in the next few weeks youre going to get dunked on by the homunculus rare so hard that the backboard is going to shatter into a million pieces. But now I unpaused and you covered your bases by acknowledging it could get out of hand.
Rakdos has felt pretty great for me, given that I get any of the uncommon or rares. Black and red have a crazy amount of common removal and you just need like 2-3 uncommon/rare bombs to get a good record
I really like this format where we learn about the new set alongside you, instead of getting the full set review videos and expecting us to be caught up when the new set drops. I'll be following you to #1
I’m here to say overrun is still a pick one slam dunk. Just got a trophy with it on selesnya. Im a small streamer and obviously that’s the one draft I don’t stream lol😅. Keep going Paul! You’re an inspiration to me
One note on the 4 mana 1/1 flier that gets a counter when drawing, it isn't only on extra draws, so each draw step it gets bigger. I also didn't think about that the first time I saw it, but it can be a good finisher if you are missing one.
Just in before the games start and wow, cool draft! Azorius midrange skies also felt open, but was missing signposts I think? Plus deck needed interaction at the potential pivot point which probably meant staying in black was less risky in a sense? Guess it will be interesting to see if black remains worth pivoting for even if none of its packages fully "come together", just on a value proposition. Fingers crossed I guess
Thanks for more great content! Since you mentioned the Homunculus Horde, I just finished my own UB draft deck and it had two of them. The Dreadwing Scavenger makes for a fantastic 3-into-4 curve since you end up activating it immediately during combat. I managed to get out 32 Homunculi (homunculuses?) in one game. After seeing you do the Mischievous Mystic + Vampire Gourmand combo that's my next goal :D
At 24:20 I would have put a stop on their draw step and flashed in Trickster and Rat to take their draw for turn. It's a risk if they do draw an instant but you could just cast the Trickster at sorcery speed on your turn for setup. The payoff seems worth it. Edit: I should watch two more seconds before commenting lol. I'll leave it.
The app on android is basically unplayable atm. It crashes trying to join 100% of games. In the matchmaking then reopen and it's a 50/50 chance I'm stuck in a loop of crashes or I come back and just have a lost
MTGA isn't magic and will never be. THey say the shuffler "shuffles" nope, too many people I know have been taken out by severe flooding like this. Not a natural game.
Land number TILT was a real beating. Thanks for all the videos Paul.
NP!
I know it’s too early, but I’ve found blue to be really good in this format
Same!!!

dimir control is everything i want to be doing so far, its sweet
Drafted it once so far and the deck was awesome. The draws were abysmal, but I was happy with my deck.

Cool, thanks!
Flash battles were real during that first game.
I have to say, this set looks way sweeter than core sets of the past.
it does!

Yeah I was like "Overrun isnt a bomb ? What ?". Like, what do people need? +5/+5 trample all creatures ? xD
Nice work!

Yeah I think it's just okay. Really rough if you're on the back foot
Respect for showing the good AND bad runs. This one looked my day today haha
yea :(

I feel that flood. Just finished a game where I had 16 lands and still had 18 cards in deck. Feels bad.
The nature of the beast sometimes!

I seem to keep drafting Jeskai Control. It's always really heavy on bouncing, card drawing, with some white removal
Master of landdrops ❤❤❤
We never miss a land drop in the Cheon household
I felt that land number 12 in my bones... GG, good content anyways! :)
Lands, Lands and guess what more Lands. The shuffler was also against you, lol.
Yeah it wasn't great haha
Pack 2, Pick 2, there was an option to take banishing light where you picked the surveil wall. what led you to not consider it?
Out here just posting any draft, not worrying about making himself look good at this game. Respect.
it's how we do
WHAT ABOUT, LAND #12????? 😂😂😂
#tilt
RIP U/W Cheons. I thought I knew you Paul
I definitely want to draft that next!
Would've loved to hear your opinion about aetherize here for a control deck 10:20
Selesnya would have been so insanely 1 sided in every game, everything but the 1 mana blind obedience in the pool, heh.
High Fae Trickster seems kinda disgusting. 😮
Paul we need a foundations stream!
maybe next week!
Bummer land pocket on that last game Paul. I felt extremely frustrated for you.
Instant speed refute OP
Also where can I find your streams?

That happened to me yesterday once.
That totally is a terror deck
I think at 28:35, you could’ve just declined and kept all of them
If you decline, all of them go to the graveyard.
u can get boltwave with micromancer lol
true!

Where do you pay Arena to give you playable draws? Stupid garbage app
