That’s makes it more important why Stride took the roll of Sin Archbishop of Pride upon himself. Stride never showed an authority or he doesn’t have an star related name. Which means Stride wasn’t an archbishop but rather claimed he was one just to be against to observers…
Cant wait for you to do an ex 4 summary soon, personally its my favorite of the ex volumes and has some of my favorite characters in it. It also important to read it and ex 5 for arc 7. (though i recommend reading all ex volumes as they are incredible reads and can always be useful to the plot in some way).
Great video, seems a lot of work went into it, definitely worth it for Battle Ballad. Obviously subjective but Wilhelm's personality didn't drag ex2 down very much for me, I started liking him a lot more after the Aihaya swamp battle, and would definitely say I enjoyed ex2 better than ex1. Ironically, as you have disdain for the main focus of ex2, wilhelm, I find Crusch in ex1 to be what drags it down a bit as I think felix and fourier a lot more interesting and entertaining in their execution. While the ending of ex1 was the main highlight, ex2 for me was filled with multiple cathartic moments that kept me entertained, as well as being introduced to and learning about new amazing characters like Grimm and Carol. Ex3 is completely understandable to dislike, I gotta agree with a lot of it feeling dragged out as well as the characters feeling like one-note versions of themselves. Unfortunately I feel like this happens a lot when it comes to Tappei's more "comedic" and slice-of-life sidestories. Ex1 does much better in the regard of feeling like a slice-of-life while also having actual substance. However, I still enjoyed ex3 better than a good amount of comedic re zero sidestories as the one-note versions of wilhelm, theresia, grimm, and carol feel more authentic than the one-note versions of the main cast. Anyway, Battle Ballad is definitely the best sidestory in re zero for me, the entirey of the final few acts is peak re zero. Lastly, I feel like one of the most overlooked things is Julia's role for Roswaal's overall character. For Roswaal to grow so close to and hold such genuine likeness towards Carol, to the point of abandoning the Gospel's words, is surprising not for us but even for him/herself, questioning why she had moved. Yet, Roswaal didn't regret it, her last thoughts being that she was glad to protect Carol. However, this becomes a breaking point for Roswaal, as from then on he would completely dedicate himself to the Gospel's words. Spoilers for the sidestory Oni Sisters, but we see Roswaal L grow just as close to two people as he did with Carol, but this time he does not end up saving them, he lets them die knowing he could have done something. After dying for Carol, he finally chose to strengthen his resolve, and cut off anything and anyone for his goal.
I've started battle ballad finished ex 2 and patched my way through SOME ex 3 material without buying it cause I've got your word on it plus some translated side story material. Dunno if that's enough but it's really affecting my views of how the main plot will go because I don't actually believe it's possible for the demihuman war to stay a "resolved" conflict for the main plotline. I feel like conspiracy board guy what did you do to me!
It's not possible. We have: Rom still being alive and now supporting Felt, Emilia being the heroine, likely further revelations imo about what Lugunicans did to the elves and half elves(you can't tell me Subaru won't feel something about this and I genuinely want to see him finally learn all this stuff and have a huge perspective shift in his friendships plus this could easily be related to some mysteries about Emilia's origins somehow), sanctuary, and garfiel's mother even seems to have a connection to the war, chaosflame being a utopia for beastpeople. People keep pretending this conflict isn't a pivotal aspect of the worldbuilding which hasn't actually finished at all. I kind of feel like when we learn what happened with Satella it won't be so much a case of Satella's redemption being the important point, but everyone else who fucked up in the process. I kind of don't believe Pandora's all there is to it anymore and can imagine there was some sort of huge mistake which Volcanica, Reid, Flugel and their friends tried to fix but also potentially covered up somehow, leading to the seal and covenant etc(it helps that I fucking hate Reid). Re zero is not simply a character study any more and Subaru's getting more and more involved in the actual politics of the world rather than just trying to figure out riddles by Flugel or whatever. This would be the best way for it to keep expanding scope imo because the demihuman war, and all other murders of demihumans and related conflicts, happened across their world, are strongly related to all lore surrounding 400 years ago/the witches etc. Subaru started off extremely ignorant about it but in arc 7 he's paralleling Felt's approach to the kingdom both with forming armies out of the gladiators(making use of everyone's talents just as she does) and wanting to destroy Vollachia. Please tell me this isn't too optimistic.
