Battlefield 2: Modern Combat Online Announcement

- Over the last months myself and Omega have been testing ways to get servers working for the PS2 version of BF2MC we had a few breakthroughs but didn't want to post anything on the discord group in case we got everyone's hope up and it once again went nowhere.
What we have achieved is not perfect there is still a lot of testing to do however it is 100% better than what we have had for the last 9 years which is no online connection of any kind.
We are both very excited to share the news that we can now connect BF2MC to online severs and it is now playable albeit with some features not currently working.
More information and details of when and where to play will be posted in the coming days. The date for access to the server we are currently working towards is May 12th.
Omega in particular has been working very hard to get the server run smoothly but this is uncharted territory so if you have an problems connecting please describe the problem in the discord channel and we will try and help.

This is awesome! Is the remake project still underway or did you guys transition to reviving the PS2 online functionality? Either way great work, I am glad you are working to bring this game back!
Hey thanks, the remake is on hold for now. The whole point in remaking the game was so we could play it again but now that won't be necessary.
amazing, good thing i have my old ps2 laying around and will pick this up and play again online....the 360 version was my favourite and the one i always played back in the day, never played the ps2 version but still being able to play this is so damn cool, hope to see the 360 version running someday soon again as well, cheers mate!

I would say there is a chance yes but this version is our priority. There is certainly a lot more of a chance now we know how the PS2 version works.

It's a shame that this only works in the PS2 version because the DLC maps for the PS2 version seem to be lost whereas the DLC for the Xbox version is fully archived, and can be downloaded, though you can't use them at all since the servers in the Xbox version are still down.
Yeah I do miss the DLC Omega is trying to get them working on PS2 but it might not be possible. Omega isn't giving up on the Xbox/Xbox 360 version so who knows maybe we will get it back some day.

Any news on getting PCSX2 to run it in hardware mode? Would love to get a sharper and smoother image.
Yes we can now get it running in hardware mode and at 50FPS. You'll find the settings on Discord, I'll make a video at some point but it will take a while. discord.gg/bf2mc

Yes the Japanese and US versions work better than the EU version.
What's the player count like these days if anyone can please let me know?
For a nearly 20 year old PS2 game I would say its player count is pretty good. There are a lot of die hard fans playing regularly. Most evenings (US time) there are about 12 people online but weekends there is usually around 20. If we host events the servers fill up too. You can check server status on the website bf2mc.com/
