end of the day, if you want to learn biology, you have to put in the time to read, digest, and practice the material. If a text book is too intimidating start with a revision guide or some of the "popular-science" books i suggested. Also, would be keen to hear any recommendations for other books i should read!
Thanks for the video! Do you have any tips for learning biology, not just reading books? I come from computer science and reading books there doesn't give you anything, you need to solve problems. So if I want to learn something new I usually implement it / solve problems / prove it myself. In machine learning for example, you would read a paper and then try to reproduce it (code it from scratch and get similar results). Is there a way to do something like that in biology? Or maybe reading books is good enough?
I was wondering if you will be doing a video on the new paper from the Ocampo lab ''Chemical reprogramming ameliorates cellular hallmarks of aging and extends lifespan'' you always do a great explanation and deep dive for us people without a biology background
No plans on a career in biology, but I'll definitely pile the first four books on my backlog of reading. Also, nice to see you being animated in a different way. :D
@@daintydoodles5866 Hey! I think it went fine. It’s not going to be perfect, you have to keep reminding yourself that mistakes will be made and you’re learning. In the same time you strive to be better every week. I’m no where as good as I want to be (it’s been a year and a half now) but I feel like I’m getting the hang of it. I’m really excited for you! Have fun and take it easy that first year, okay?!
@@Emmasaed1999 I'm glad you're interested! I'd say go with the books that TheSheekeyScienceShow recommended in the video. It's a slower, more casual introduction into the world of biology.
How we live and why we die What is life The gene Gene machine Crack in creation The epigenetics revolution Molecular biology of cell A level biology P53 the gene that cracked the cancer code The music of life biology beyond genes
Eleanor I'm a big fan of ur work on RUclips I want to become a cancer researcher just like u thanks to all the videos. I'm in the first 6months of biology and u really encourage me thank u very much greeting from Colombia.
Thank you so much for those recommendations, I always wanted to learn biology properly as a 1st step (2nd, actually, after chemistry) of learning about longevity ✌
SO I inspired to make a channle since you successfully made while doing your PhD . We are in a same both . Whishing me Luck last year PhD Chemical Engineerer here
Gene Machine. Good trade. I have one for you in turn. What do you think of Carl Zimmer's 'She has her Mother's Laugh'? Did you get to read it- just an interesting read for the general public on the different types/ways of thinking about heredity.
The sheekey science show. What would you recommend as reading material if say someone is interested in learning more about lab mice. Like say there history for example and what science has come to learn about the usual lab mouse personally.
I'm interested in your opinion on Nick Lane. Did you read any of his books and what is your take on his work, I'm currently reading Oxygen "The molecule that made the world" his first book, and I'm enjoying every page of it. Greetings from a fellow biochemist.
Hi Next year I'm gonna go to university and my language is persion but I would like to study reference in english like gray's anotomi So I can speak or read English But I've never read English biology book so what should I do
Hello, please reply, i want to study biology from the start, the books you recommended in the video, do i need any biology knowledge before i start with the books??? I'm correctly in 11th class/grade/standard and next year i will be in 12th so i need some books of that level
Hey can you by any chance... teach me? Personally.... but.. I don't have anything on me. It's really weird that I would ask this though. It won't matter if you don't but it would if you do.
But Ma'am, can you recommend books to learn biology from start till last? Like this video does for mathematics: ruclips.net/video/didXE0HkSC8/видео.html I understand that no one can understand bio fully, but atleast we can know a lot about biology. Books can kinda cover from basic bio books to as much as genetic engineering and anything in between.

Campbell's Biology 2nd Ed is a pretty comprehensive bio textbook. It's also massive.
Wow. I was literally just about to ask that you do a video like this!
LOVE your book recommendation videos!
Another book i known of that i recommend especially for beginners is Everything You Need to Ace Biology in One Big Fat Notebook by (Matthew Brown)
Wow this is great. You just gave me a year worth of reading here. :)

Quickstart molecular biology is quite good
I loved your recommendation alot !
Is there any other social media plateform where we can have directly conversation about this amazing journey?
What is good biology
Thank you Madam for the help I am obliged to have your help.
I will read them all if only to follow your contributions. By the way want my favourite books in Antropologhy?

I like to get a copy of the books 📚
bought all the books on the list apart from the molecular biology of the cell (wtf £73), wish me good luck...
Beautiful book by a beautiful lady for beautiful knowledge, splendid.
You should add “the manga guide to molecular biology”
Thanks ❤🤗
