  • Travel Vlog #97 | Jungfrau, Switzerland
Today we are once again traveling to Switzerland on a BUDGET! We have our Swiss Travel Pass in hand (for this area, it's the Jungfrau Swiss travel pass), and heading up into the mountains.
We train through the Lauterbrunnen Valley before catching a cable car up to Murren, Switzerland. From Murren, you have access to one of the best views in the area by hopping on ANOTHER cable car up to Schilthorn (AKA Piz Gloria)! From there, you can see the entire Jungfrau region range, as well as Mont Blanc in France (on a clear day). This cable car is an extra fee on top of the Swiss Travel pass, but it's worth it in our opinion. After we had our share of the views from the top, we headed inside to check out the James Bond 007 exhibit, which is a huge attraction on the top of Schilthorn. On our way back down to Murren and Lauterbrunnen, we made sure to get off the cable car at Birg, where you can do the 'Thrill Walk'! This is a series of thrilling walks - on cables, see-through floors, and wire tunnels. While not for the faint of heart, it's something to add to your list!
After getting back into Murren, we took the cable car/train combo back down to Lauterbrunnen, before catching another train up to Kleine Scheidegg. This is the traditional Jungfraujoch route, before the Eiger Express came into the picture. To finish our night, we took the train all the way to Grindelwald to connect back to Interlaken. We think of the Jungfrau region as an adult playground with all of the sites, trains, and cable cars, you can get on one pass!
All of the transportation in this video is included in the Jungfrau pass besides the cable car up to Schilthorn. We're going to do a separate video over just the pass, but in general it comes out to roughly $50-70/day depending on which one you choose.
We spent quite a bit of time here, so make sure you're subscribed to see all of our Jungfrau travel guides and vlogs :)
Here are our tips listed out to budget in Switzerland!
    1. Shop at grocery stores - our favorites are Coop and Migros!
    2. Buy a travel pass - we bought the Jungfrau pass since we're in the Jungfrau region
    3. Take advantage of the cable cars/trains that are already discounted and included in your travel pass
    4. Hike a lot! They're free and a great way to see the scenery.
    5. Keep looking for accommodation until you find something that fits your budget
    6. Book somewhere with your own kitchen so you don't have to eat out. Make sure it includes utensils and cookware!

Gimmelwald is an typical Swiss village with chalets in Walser-Style (see Rick Steeves video) speak to Tom Durrer from Lauterbrunnen Tourism for more infos.

I’d go for the views on solid ground, but yeah…BIG NOPE on the glass and wire tunnel. It’s like a chain link casket. Cable cars are beautiful though! 😂
