In episode 14 I solve a huge problem, the collapsing living room floor due to an improperly framed staircase opening. It was a mess and still is not perfect but more than adequate for the situation and a lot better than the original. I also address some plumbing and electric including installing an expansion tank, pressure test the lines and wire in for lights, switches and outlets in the basement. I'm hoping to wrap this renovation up soon which means nose to the grind stone. Keep an eye out for more!

    Hi,
I am not surprised you are tired of renovating houses; your determination to thoroughly renovate, as opposed to superficially paint over the cracks, rundown properties means that your renovation projects inevitably take longer.
You should be congratulated for this same determination.
    Keep up the good work!

For the "In between reno's question" I vote for DIY type projects. Like, how to build a work bench. How to build a shed. How to organize your tools...ect. Just basic stuff everyone does (or should do), but from your perspective. Anyways..just a thought. Great stuff you got here!

If we had to wait in between house reno vids, then maybe it would be a good idea to fill it with more detailed (and organized!) videos on how-to do some of the things he does. I know he's talked about some things before in other videos, but a series focused on that stuff would help future-diyers and also help tide us over for the next reno

I was waiting patiently for the new video. Just a reminder - joist hanger nails are far stronger in sheer strength than screws (especially required on the hanger to beam joint). Around here, inspectors make you unscrew them and replace with nails. The other thing that caught my eye is that you removed an old rotten 4x4 because it was on the ground but did the same thing bracing the top of your stair stringer. Put a piece of plastic underneath it and it will add years of life.

Back in 1987 we had to do the exact same thing with the stairs in the house we were flipping. My dad said he was coming over with a ten ton jack and my husband an I were expecting him to walk in with a massive piece of machinery (what did we know haha.)
I really enjoy the renovation series and I enjoy watching you demolish things and cleaning things up (there is a huge following for cleaning video).
I think you might be leaving too much stuff out. You probably could have split this video in two and then have something ready to put up next week. I really enjoy a weekly video because I make it my reward to watch on Thursdays after I have completed some unpleasant task or another. Don't think you need to speed ahead so you are up to date with posting what you are doing. I really enjoy comparison shots of what it looks like when you start and finish. I think if you are posting once every two weeks I might find something else to watch that is more regular. (Hmmm, that didn't mean to sound like a threat). Anyhow, this is just my two cents worth, all the best!

I am a single mom with zero interest in renovation but I really enjoy seeing you transform these properties and projects. I always look forward to your videos regardless of how long you needed to make them. I am happy to patiently wait. However, just an idea here, if you do take longer periods of time between vids (like 2+ weeks) it would be awesome if you added in a quick recap from where you left off at the beginning. Nothing fancy, even if it's just you giving a quick voiceover it would really help to jog our memories a bit. I really appreciate the quality content and I hope things are smooth sailing for you and your future plans!

I told a friend once his was has cracks in the walls. He needed to jack up the house. Make it even on all sides. He laughed at me said I Was crazy. My Mom Dad had a house built in the 1930s they jacked up the house made it even. Never had no problms. No cracks etc. Or it could be a tree root cracking the foundation. He said I was crazy on that idea as well. All I can say wish my friend house won't be destroyed. Love your videos. Looking forward to your next one. Big THANKS SHARING THEM. ALSO HAVE A GREAT DAY AS WELL

I am not a greedy watcher. Keep doing what you enjoy don't let your viewers decide what you post. With that being said as a viewer I do like having an update on your progress.

A huge yes to videos on smaller projects. I live in a small apartment in London UK so whilst I enjoy watching your work it's difficult to do much large scale DIY myself, so basic furniture projects would be great and mean I can apply some of the stuff I pick up from watching.

Hey man, just wanted to respond to your question about what video content you might be able to do "between houses." First off, I recently discovered this channel and have been loving it, and learning a ton, so thank you for what you have done. You have given many of us exposure to parts of the renovation/construction process that we just never get to see first hand, and that is truly impactful from a learning perspective.
One thing you may consider doing between houses is just talking very conceptually, very high level, even sitting down at your kitchen table with a pad and paper, and explaining some of the fundamental concepts and understanding of different topics that you clearly have, that we may be missing as viewers.
Think about it like this.... we can all easily watch you do these projects on your houses and once you get going on something (ripping out a floor, running new pex lines, running electrical, sistering up some joists for added support), and think "cool, I could do that!" But I think where many people would struggle in their own projects is not on the actual task, but KNOWING and confidently deciding when to do what. Like how did you know that staircase needed to be reconfigured and how it needed to be properly supported so the house didn't collapse on you? How do you know when looking at the old electrical or plumbing that it truly needed to be upgraded? How do you properly diagnose a water issue and what might be causing it? The only way you know is to have a thorough conceptual understanding of these topics.
So again, I would propose you, sitting at your kitchen table with a pad and paper talking about various topics at a high level. One example: "The Basics of Home Electrical and Wiring," where you discuss everything you know and have learned about electric from your experience, from where it comes from at the power plant, to how you get it turned on with the city, to the overall system flow, to things to keep in mind to wiring up a panel, to how you decide what to put on which circuits, to why some things are 110v and others are 220v, to the most important points of electrical code in your area, to even showing examples of different common electrical components you have lying around and talking about them (an extra breaker, light switch, outlet, gang box, or empty panel).
And then the same style of video for plumbing, framing, roofing, HVAC, insulating, finishing, etc. Not that you have to be a master of every detail and know every single thing about each area, but just sharing from your personal experience the most important things to know about these topics. This will help us make our own decisions on our own projects in terms of us thinking, "ok, THIS is the most important thing to do on this project. These three things are actually ok for now, but these other two things must be updated to make sure this home will be safe and functional for the maximum amount of time."
You have an inspiring amount of knowledge, and I think a series like that would be a great way to share it. And hey, on the bright side, it'll be a lot less manual labor! Thanks for considering different ways to share your knowledge with us.

I am watching this series of house renovations rather late but I am loving them all. I have been working on a rental that I bought several years ago and it is going slow but then I am a woman 72 years old and working alone, but hey, I love to see the improvements that can be made and I totally love your videos and learn a lot from them--thank you for sharing all your thoughts and work!!! Take care of that finger!!!

I'd love to see a video with you detailing what sort of code research and compliance you go through for these remodels. Watching some of these videos, I keep wondering what permits you are getting and what the building departments are requiring as far as bringing things up to code. It seems like with as much structural work as you have had to do in the basement and around those stairs, that you'd need to bring those areas up to current code, which those stairs definitely are not.
