ok so for anyone who's confused, halsey recently did a podcast for Rolling Stones where she explained the hopeless fountain kingdom as this lost era in between heaven and hell ( where you are too good for hell but too bad for heaven) so it's a lost world. HALSEYS character and the boy she's in love with are two kids who weren't sent there like everyone else, they were born there and they are exploring their love. She also explained how this connects to Badlands. Room 93 is a hotel room fantasy about the same shitty relationship which takes place IN Badlands which is pretty much an abandoned run down city with danger covered by this deserted wasteland representing her mental state. She said Badlands is kind of like a realm inside the hopeless fountain kingdom. So it isn't completely like Badlands because Badlands is one part of the hopeless fountain kingdom, which is why it's a little bit different because I think it's showing you the other side to the story. I pulled quotes from her exact interview so here you go for anyone who's confused :)))
mell - so it's a twist on Romeo a Juliet the field between montagues (romeos family) and capulets (juliets family). But in this the roles were switched so HALSEYS character is kind of a montague while the guys she's in love with is a capulet. The woman she's arguing with is either probably her friend because in Romeo and Juliet nurse helps Juliet meetup with Romeo. So she's yelling at the nurse to support her decision. Halsey character and the boy love each other but everyone is keeping them apart. And she got shot to show resistance, how when the psychic said things will get in the way, the society is getting in the way trying to kill them. So she takes her chance and drives away

She said something very different than this in an iHeartRadio interview. She said Kingdom is about two people being in love and will change themselves completely to be in love to the point where they are unrecognizable. After dating someone for a few years, Halsey couldn't recognize herself anymore so she had to pull out that girl that was stuck in the Badlands to get herself back.

If I hadn't just gotten thrown in jail. I was listening to it right before this date... I really wish this system could get some act right before I have to make it act right, but hey, that would be too much to expect from an entity that never counted on anyone to be capable of striking back in the proper manner.
It is true, mostly, we're out here beating up on ourselves, but... I've found time to do both. And it's certainly not by using any of the stolen time to do anything more productive than explain to EVERYBODY else that has as much reason to strike back as myself that I've uncovered the route, but they'd rather disqualify themselves from any valid position by being as likely to offend me as the damn system itself.
I am going to enjoy their continued actions of aggression against each other from somewhere I don't need to be subjected to any attempt of their controlling means.
I've been a fan of Halsey since the very beginning, and I know a lot of people will disagree with me after reading these comments, but I'm personally obsessed with this song and I really do like her new sound. With most artists, their second album is always going to have a different style and vibe to it because it is with this album where the artist learn which sounds they want to retire and which sounds they want to experiment with, and that's exactly what Ashley is doing. I understand that we all have our own opinions, but I think we should just relax and have faith in her and know that she won't disappoint us with this upcoming album. Lets just give her our love and support like we always do.

Obviously, it follows a Romeo and Juliet inspired storyline. Halsey, in this case, is Romeo from the House of Aureum. And the guy is Juliet, House of Angelus. Halsey's house emblem is a bee because they're corrupt, sinful, gluttonous, TOXIC (bee). The Angelus emblem are angel wings because they're supposedly pure and clean. Like Romeo and Juliet, these two people from rival houses fall in love. They decide to tell their best friends. Halsey's friend, although she's from Aureum (bad), she's able to accept Halsey's love for the guy. Guy's best friend, although he's from Angelus (good) doesn't accept their love and betrays them. That's why House of Angelus ambushes and kills the people of the House of Aureum, leaving Halsey on her own.

JEFFF !!!!! The music video is INSPIRED by Romeo and Juliet. It doesn't follow everything minuscule detail of the original story and play nor are the characters supposed to be the exact characterizations of Romeo and Juliet. Halsey created and shaped these characters and inspirations to fit her vision for Hopeless Fountain Kingdom era. The explanation I just gave is close to the one that Halsey, herself, explained about the music video when I attended her Q&A for the video premiere. It might not have been word for word but it's pretty much the gist of it. There's a lot more going on than just good and bad and everything I just said above was just the utmost simplified version of the story that Halsey was trying to tell in the music video.

I love the juxtaposition of conflicting themes in this video. Like the "angels" who at the end turn out to be the evil that strike first, or the shouting convo between Halsey and her friend with the silent one of the angel guy with his friend, or the fact that the girl kept the forbidden relationship a secret while that asshole told everyone and started the fight. This video is so full of meanings and the more I watch it the more I find them. The most unsettling thing tho is when she watches at her right side when that guy came to pick her up behind her in the left, I stlll have to understand that. Brillant video.

if some of you guys don't know, halsey said that hopeless fountain kingdome is a place between heaven and hell, people who do not belong in heaven nor hell, and there were only two people who were born in the hopeless fountain kingdom, halsey and white nite (the dude) and they loved each other but couldn't be together, like romeo and julliet, that is where they come in.
also, halsey is part of house of aureum and white nite belongs in house on angelous. the two planet part thing is a representation, halsey is the moon and white nite is the sun, like how there is amoon in halseys eye in the HFK album artwork

Has anyone ever thought that maybe this is the kind of music Halsey has always wanted to make? There are so many rude people in the comments saying how her music is unoriginal and that she has changed and you preferred the old version of her, guys this is still the same Halsey! She's expanding the sound of her music and discovering how much more she can achieve as an artist. And so what if she has changed compared to badlands? Are you seriously going to deny her of being who she wants? Heard this song and first heard of Halsey sitting in Miami Federal Detention Center on my rack in my cell in 2017. Was obsessed with this and her sensual voice.
at 2:09 u can see the name of the rival houses, angelus vs. aureum. this video kind of reminds me about Romeo + Juliet (1996) and all that concept of forbidden love. LOVED ALL ABOUT THIS HALSEY. LOVED ALL IT ALL.
based on my research, aureum is a latin word which means gold or golden. there's also a plant called epipremnum aureum which has a lot of common names such as golden pothos, hunter's robe, devil's vine and devil's ivy. while angelus it is a prayer of devotion. ringin of church bells. evil vs the good. a shared love between the evil and the good and how it wasn't accepted at HFK. LOVED THE CONCEPT.

For everyone saying this isn't Halseys best work, you're not understanding the video which often happens took me awhile with her video of colors. This is about how her and the male are in love but won't make the commitment to be with her and they are both talking to other people. She needs to know now or never if they are going to be together hence the name. She ends up obviously not waiting for him and has made her choice. Halsey wrote these lyrics a long time ago and actually says she was in a bad relationship which was the inspiration for the song. She changed so much for that one person and not being herself that she ended up losing herself. After it was over she had to find herself again.
As for it sounding like Rhianna's song needed me. A lot of music tracks are recycled and changed. It's a common practice in the music industry. This has been done ever since the 60s, get over it. It's not the first and definitely won't be the last. She has even said her new album will have more R&B music to it. As an artist she's allowed to try new things.
