Beauty re-visitation! After seeing that section on blade loading, I totally understand why you may have had a blade issue. Also, after that inserted section, I'd have zero worries about the unit being difficult/complex to load - pretty straightforward. Thanks!!
Glad it worked out Jon so you can get the true experience. I load the blade in a similar way. Try the GSB again. For me I wish it was a little less head heavy but I still like it. If he offered a 3.5” handle I think it would be just right for me. At any rate, check out the efficiency for smoothness ratio when you increase the number on next shave. I am usually at 4-5.
I’m glad you had a much better experience with the Konsol. Looks like a quality razor, however I am concerned about the risk of inadvertently injuring/slicing one’s fingers in loading the blade. From the looks on the video, do you think it would help if the posts were raised up a bit more on the top cap? In any event, kudos to you for giving the razor a second chance and sharing your tips on loading.
That could be a modification we make but it would require a counter bore into the guard because right now they are as thick as the blade tray. So they are as long as possible without a relief in guard. But that means another place for water to pool or hide.
It's definitely a tricky razor to load. Just make sure you have a good grip on it when tightening it while holding the head. I managed to slice my thumb open pretty good when it twisted while tightening. Great razor - just funky to load.
@@Latherhog I quickly learned to load it differently. Now I set the head upside down on a small towel, put the blade on it, then screw the handle assembly on to it.
Glad you figured it out! You should have shown what you did wrong or more importantly how to load it correctly. I have a Fatip Lo storto that’s a very tricky slant to blade align. I’d love to try this one. Maybe as my channel builds razor companies will offer me razors to try.
Great video jon love that u went back and revisited the konsul i should have done the same with the ambassador now i wanna try the konsul or even the sentry and see if i like it
Good video. I'm glad you gave it another shot. I'm curious - Isn't it better to have a more aggressive setting on pass 1, since there's more hair to cut through?
Pretty sure he was just testing the exposure of the razor since he got nicks last time. In other words, it appears he was starting out cautiously since he had a bad first experience.
It's a bit tricky to load it......to the point that it feels a bit "unsafe" and then the blade makes crunching noises as you tighten it. One word: Wunderbar..... all others are not worth it....
Funny how posting a controversial video can stir up a lot more comments than usual, eh? :) It's been the same for my videos in the past! Glad you had a totally different shave with the razor this time around. I'm still itching to try the Sentry (or Konsul on setting 4, I suppose)!
Jon did you change your technique with the Konsul? Does the slant require the user to hold the razor differently? It seemed you were riding the cap most of the time.
Jon enjoy your channel and content ! How is this shaver compared to the Canadian made Karve and the Rockwell 6C,razors ?? Do not currently own any of these classic modern DE razors mentioned yet ,only vintage Gillette Adjustables ie Fat Boy ,Slim and the Black Beauty .Thnx!
Maybe I'll consider selling my Rex for the konsul. I just bought the Rockwell T2 in gunmetal on sale though I already own the stainless version lol. Slant razors never really wowed me for some reason, I feel like I always have to fuss with the blade alignment such as my merkur 37c slant. Does that method of loading work for other slant razors?
Yes I think the method can really work for any razor, the key is to use your fingers to help hold the blade in place by holding the top cap of the razor and the dull sides of the blade.
The T2 was a failure for me. I'm considering the new Osprey. I'll wait to see what the reviews say about that one. Very expensive should you go with polished Titanium
Jon, it's not user error, it's faulty design. I encountered the same difficulty with loading. This product needs this video, which a pricey razor should not. I'm not even selling mine. I wouldn't recommend it at all, and I'm a big fan of the Envoy. This is just an expensive experiment that didn't quite work
The Konsul is may Favorite Razor. I can understand the user error. The blade gets so torqued when loading. But it seems intuitive for me. those slot are the same for the Henson, but ofcourse the Henson is not as torqued. I'm glad you like it now. I almost unsubscribed, lol just kidding.
I think all DE razors should be loaded top cap down🤷🏼♂️. The Konsul is fantastic. The ambassador is a bit aggressive, but I even like that one. I didn’t at first, but technique is part of the fun. I have never sold or traded a razor that I have acquired.. I just work thru it.. it makes it challenging, different and part of the journey. It’s just my approach, but I like figuring it out🤷🏼♂️
You should consider removing the “first impressions” video so Rex doesn’t lose sales due to human error in loading the blade. Not everyone who watches the first video will notice this follow up.
Unless you believe Jon is the be all, end all, if you're going to purchase a pricey razor, you're doing your research and watching more than one video.. in which case this one will surely show in the results
@@onepassben agree. I own the Konsul.. so there was no doubt in my mind it was a loading error. To your point, I researched a lot prior to making that purchase. There are others that had loading errors, but they all explained where they went wrong.
I love the Konsul, but tbh this is a legitimate design issue. The posts aren't long enough. You can call it "user error" but if enough people do it then really it's a design problem.
🎉😊happy to see that it delivered on its promise of being a mild.but efficient shaver! Thx for giving it a second go! Great channel I just subscribed 🎉
Thanks for subbing Matt!
Hey Jon,.. excellent follow up video! I’m looking forward to seeing the next video.
Thanks, Lindsay 💈
Thanks for watching Lindsay!
Thanks for showing how you load the blade. Thats how I am settling on loading my konsul
You're welcome, thanks for watching!

@@mattpisarcik5865 Thanks for considering. And for taking the time to explain. I greatly appreciate your passion for razors and traditional shaving.

Yikes, sorry to hear about your thumb!

I got the konsul and ambassador. Both are great razors. I just got the supply co pro single edge and it's great as well.

Thanks for watching! I included a portion in the video on how to properly load it, hoping that helps others who might run across the same issue.

You could see after 2-3 strokes your face softened that it was better than your first shave with it. Nothing beats that feeling lol.

Pretty much what Brian said :)
Cool video, perhaps post a review video after trying the tool for a week or so. Thanks
Thanks, I cover razors in both ways and knew I'd be doing multiple videos with the Konsul as it is an adjustable razor with multiple settings.

Yeah, I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised after doing it this long 😂 I’m looking forward to my next shave with this razor at the higher settings!
Konsul or blackbird titanium? I am looking to get into wet shaving but would like it to be one and done and not go even deeper in the rabbit hole
Jon
did you change your technique with the Konsul? Does the slant require the user to hold the razor differently? It seemed you were riding the cap most of the time.
I didn't have to think much about the technique or angle with the Konsul once it was loaded properly, I could go on auto-pilot on settings 1-3.
@@Latherhog jon here is a loaded question. How does the Konsul compare to the Osprey?
Would you say it's a daily shaver?
Yes, the lower settings on the Konsul are comfortable for daily use.
Let me get back to you on how it compares with the Karve and Rockwell as I still need to get in my shaves using settings 4-6!
@@Latherhogcool ! Sounds good !
Unless you hold it upside down. Then it screws the right way

I found the blade loading to be very tricky, shouldn’t be that way for a high dollar razor. JMO.
I definitely loaded a blade wrong once.
With how much this razor costs there shouldn't be such issues when loading a blade.
You could definitely argue that, but it is something easily remedied once you know, and the razor itself really does shave wonderfully.
