I think this really shows that money spent does not equal shave quality. As much as I try to support local and support us companies, I think it’s a hard ask to have someone purchase the konsul. Unless of course money is no barrier for them.
@colletteclassic you know I meant to stress that point more. Price does not reflect shave for sure. I was honestly sad as I expected to just be wow in love with the konsul. It also stresses that don’t think because you spend $500 you will love the shave. That’s the main reason I didn’t save up for a konsul. No way I would shell out that kind of money and hope I loved it.
As you and I discussed John, I was given the Yaqi Adjustable (non-slant) and I absolutely love it. It is my most aggressive adjustable and that’s why I was gifted it. It was too aggressive for the guy who had purchased it. I may need to pull the trigger on the slant. The Rex is a bit more than I want to spend. I found the build quality of the Yaqi to be very good.
@robertlarkham2428 if you find the yaqi non slant too aggressive I would have to agree the yaqi slant would be my suggestion to you over the Rex konsul. The konsul had too much blade feel for me even on lower setting. The yaqi slant however can go mild/medium/wild or wild enough for me! 4 on the yaqi slope/slant is as high as I can enjoy for daily shaves so 5/6 should handle plenty. If I did have heavy growth I’d reach for an OC anyways for ease of rinsing.
@michaelhunyadi5087 I agree. The yaqi is very well made having them side by side I did not see $350 more razor. I respect the amount of money it must cost to get a razor to production and made in the USA is NOT cheap. At the end of the day it’s all about the shave and for me the Rex has too much blade feel for me to enjoy. Shockingly my buddy who loaned me the Rex konsul said it’s too mild for him which blows my mind.
Nice shave!, but if possible I'd like to see you trying out the Yaqi and the Rockwell T2 and check which has more/less Blade exposure and which one feels better
@nicktheneko I had the T2. I sold it. I really wanted to love that razor. It was too mild and too aggressive. 2.5 barely did much but 3-4 would often irritate my neck post shave. My buddy LOVES his but he likes very mild razors. If you like the Rockwell 6c/6s plate setting #2-3 you may like the T2. I can use plate 3 but only with a super sharp blade. The yaqi slope is superior. Goes mild/medium/aggressive even on 3-4 doesn’t bother my neck ever.
Interesting video👍. I have Konsul and I have had Ambassador too. Ambassador was too much for me but Konsul I like a lot. With Konsul I find settings between 1-2 are not very aggressive. Maybe the blade was not good match? Polsilver SI is a good match for me in Konsul.
@tomsterr1904 I tried a few blades in the konsul. So far the Treet blades I used in the video worked the best. Just a tad too much blade exposure for me personally. No fault of the razor. I am happy I was given the chance to try it!
I wish you could try the HomeLikeShaving Elbrus adjustable slant razor, which has an extreme slant. Unfortunately this Russian razor seems only made in titanium and is one of the most expensive razors I've seen. Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements once offered their Alpha Ecliptic slant razor in bakelite and aluminum (with a similar extreme slant), which was inspired by the Walbusch & Sohnes 'Humpback' Slant. Walbusch & Sohnes also once offered an adjustable version of their Humpback slant. Sadly, affordable versions of these extreme adjustable slants (with today's technology) are nowhere to be seen.
@borebetomagus I haven’t heard of the Elbrus. I was looking at a PAA slant for a bit but most reviews said it was pretty aggressive so I wasn’t sure if I would like it. I think I’ll try the new timeless slant if I try any more.
@@borbetomagus не расстраивайтесь. Не знаю никого, кто бы об этом косорезе отозвался лестно. Мне больше всех алюминиевый iKon X3 понравился. Не помню сколько slant станков в чемодане, но не менее 10.
In which setting the Yaqi Ultima Slope is comparable to the Merkur 37c, so for gap and absence to feel the blade during the shave? Or the Slope behave how the Razorock German 37 where the feel of the blade is present all the time? And in case of the Parker semi-slant which setting of the Slope would be similar?
@nonsokosatura9093 I would say the Merkur 37C feels like a 3.5 or so on the yaqi. When you go 2.5 or lower there is very low blade feel on the yaqi. That’s what I like about it. It truly goes mild but is still pretty efficient compared to other adjustables at those lower settings.
Does the security bar of the slope is thick how the Konsoul? Does the angle, during the shave, is automatic and easy to maintain between these two razors?
@nonsolorastura9093 I sent the konsul back to the person who loaned it too me so I can’t comment on the safety bar thickness of the konsul. Both razors were easy to find shaving angles with. Both razors can be made smoother during the shave by riding the top cap more. If you have a medium/heavy beard and like blade feel you will enjoy the konsul. If you have a light or medium beard & like mild/medium blade feel you like the yaqi more.
I do like pumpkin but was on the fence if I would like it for a soap. I didn’t love summer cabin. A little too much lemon grass for what I was after. I’d like to try the birch & root , & a few others.
I had the Rex Ambassador and it was a bit too aggressive for me. I then went for the Konsul and it is an extremely smooth razor. I found that the Konsul is most effective with a shallow angle. As for the blade tabs, I found that when you take the top cap off the blade is usually still clinging to the base cap and is easily removed. Cheap Chinese copies are Cheap Chinese Copies. I wonder what kind of beard your friend has lol. It's crazy that even cranking up the settings is not enough for him. The guy must shave with a Husqvarna (chainsaw). Great comparison. I do prefer to support US companies and really respect Rex for being innovative in the space. However, at the end of the day a razor's shave is the most important so if the Yaqi slope feels more comfortable and useable to you, you have to to with that.
@sagaurosmart4100 he said his facial hair is so thick it made the blade flex on the Parker variant OC. He started shaving with a straight razor & tore the safety bar off an E series schick which is too aggressive with the safety bar for me! 🤣 I’ve learned as some guys age our hair gets super coarse. That’s why I try to let viewers decide what choice of the razors would suit them best. I give my choice & why but try to leave it up to everyone what they should choose. The Konsul is a beautiful razor. Being honest I am sad I did not love it. On a positive note I just got a timeless aluminum and will be comparing it to the Karve bison, shield DE & lupo aluminum soon. Aluminum razor videos incoming.
I know what you mean, people's beards and skin vary wildly. My father never knew it was "taboo" to go ATG on first pass for people with sensitive skin. I recently discovered he just does that everyday even on his neck with a Muhle Rocca without any problem. It's lowkey demoralizing to watch for people like me who have had to develop a careful technique to achieve comfortable shaves. Sounds like you got some interesting comparisons coming up, I'll watch them for sure. Have a great rest of your day!

Not as overpriced as the Rocnel. Or that Tatara
You can upgrade your Yaqi with available Rex Supply Konsul parts...ie spring ( definitely get)..bottom knob..handle barrel..will all fit.

@johnpriestnab9648 when I’m lathering it’s simply water. It’s a “continuous” spray style bottle.
Post shave its thayers witch hazel being used.
