Not shown in the video but there is a balcony you as fans can stand in and look down into all the garages, it really is a great overall paddock experience.
At Pocono it's just wide open giant garages with next to nothing separating the cars or teams and fans can basically walk right up to the cars under the roof. Heck, one year in 2013 they put them on the track moments before the race and let the fans walk around the cars....some people were literally sitting on the cars tires and the league was cool with it.
In F1 they are constantly copying each other. But since it is a manufacturer competition, it isn't like you can throw the Mercedes part copy on your car that day. You have to manufacture it. And teams keeping it close to the vest gives you a manufacturers advantage. Indycar, the aero parts are spec, so it isn't like you are going to copy the opponents design. And you aren't over there looking at their shock setups, or gearing setups, or suspension toe and camber to the tenth of a degree or their tire pressures. So just looking at the car, there is only so much you really could copy anyway. Maybe how much wicker they are running, but each team probably has their own idea about what is best anyway.
If Romain keeps this up, other IndyCar teams will be in a bidding war for his signature next year. Word is Andretti Autosport is looking to shake up their lineup for 2022. Romain might be a contender for a seat there.
If Hunter-Reay or Hinchcliffe leave, I think Romain is a definite contender. Big question is down to sponsorship. I fully expect Romain to run a full season in IndyCar next year
Well we know Herta is gonna stay with Andretti unless he somehow gets an F1 contract offer (Mario thinks he could do great in F1). Rossi and Hunter-Reay are having a lot of bad luck, and Hinch idk
@@EricBurns1 Rossi only ever looked good when andretti had the best package and he had meh teammates. As soon as herta showed and Andretti went down he was nothing. Hunter Reay is washed up big time. Hinch isn't good
Rossi and herta are signed for next year. I think the main decider comes down to sponsorship, with Kirkwood, Grosjean, Lundqvist, and it’s rumored Albon could potentially be a candidate.
This track looks so AMAZING with those twisty ups and downs! And then the trees, grass, the stands and campings around the track with fans - PERFECTION. So much better than the artificial plastic awfully flat F1 tracks with painted asphalt and that nonsense. I've been a fan of IndyCar and F1 for over 25 years but it still always grabs me how awesome IndyCar is.
I think of it as F1 is Disneyland with everything polished, synthetic and controlled, and IndyCar is backpacking in nature where cool stuff just happens...
Mid-Ohio is a great track layout, and you can watch the race from practically everywhere on the track. The facilities are a bit old though, and the track rather badly needs a full repave. In a way, it's kind of stuck in the "old school", but if you're okay with that it's a great place to spectate.
Big fan Romain! I love what you’ve been doing this year on social media. Quick story - my first motorsport experience of any kind was the 2013 Canadian GP. Drove up from NY and was hooked within 10 minutes of FP1. Initially, due to his quirkiness I started rooting for Kimi but then I noticed his teammate was consistently outperforming him with only a fraction of the fan fare. I was intrigued and the more I learned about your struggles in 2012, your performance in 2013 was all the more impressive. Your overall resiliency and positive attitude plus your speed and aggressiveness on track made me a fan back then. Your Belgium podium in 2015 with a terrible Lotus and your successes at Haas always made it easy to root for you. I’ve been following your IndyCar season very closely and your rise to fan favorite among American motorsports fans has been incredible to watch and it reminds me of that 2013 season and why I became a fan. Keep up the good work!
As a long time F1 fan I've started following indycar thanks to you. I hate to admit it but F1 can learn alot from the way things are done in indycar, and I'm even starting to prefer Indy over F1. Something I'd never thought I'd ever say.
You dramatically see the operational and "cultural" differences between INDYCAR composed primarily of family owned teams (many American racing legend's), and F1 sanitized corporate manufactures. The theme of "family" has been a hallmark of INDYCAR throughout its history with the engine producers, Honda and Chevrolet, considered manufactures. Overtakes... real overtakes... how lovely... Romain had more glorious overtakes in one INDYCAR race than the entire grid of a typical F1 race! :) For those Sky Sports F1 viewers, remember how excited David Croft and Johnny Herbert get when they see an overtake? ...and they play it over and over and over... Incredible INDYCAR overtake statistic: At the 2018 INDYCAR 110-lap St. Petersburg, FL street race, there were 366 on-track passes recorded! Compare that to F1 in 2017. Pirelli recorded 435 overtakes across the entire season!
I just got into Indycar this season and it has been such a welcome change to see how down to earth, DIY and focused on pure racing it is compared to F1.
Indy car racing keeps the intense competition out on the track, where it is supposed to be, and while there is decidedly intense competition in the prep of the cars, the paddocks and pits are kept more low key and fun. Knew Dale from way back when he had his own car with the small block Chevy. Super nice guy, and one of the most honest you will ever meet. So good to see his progression up the ladder of team hierarchy to near the top.
I'm constantly enjoying Indycar more and more and more.... Some of these races have been EPIC! I'm def becoming a much bigger fan!! You are really helping to bring more fans into Indy I bet. Keep up the great work!!! (BTW, those trucks are killer!!)

IndyCar is like the wild west of open wheel racing, everyone is like a family around the paddock, and you drive motorhomes to each race with your family which is beautiful. Amazing insight Romain! I've been a big fan since 2008 and your raw speed has always been evident. I especially remember that when you jumped in with DAMS at the end of 2010 they had been further down the field mid-season and immediately you brought the car to the podium at Spa. It seemed like whatever you drove; many different single seaters, GT cars, etc. you were fast. I'm excited to see you continue in Indycar and it looks like you're having fun which is the main thing! It was good to see you run at Mid Ohio. I hadn’t been to Mid Ohio in over 20yrs but made the drive up from west Kentucky last weekend to see you run. It was also interesting to watch the pit stops during final practice from the back of your pit stall. I used to work in stock car racing back in the 90’s but this was my first time to see an Indycar pit stop in person. Pretty laid back compared to the almost frantic pit stops with a stock car.

It's been reported that Albon is already looking into Indycar with team Andretti next year, or one of the other teams. Latifi has also expressed interest in racing in Indycar. Antonio Felix Da Costa may drive in several races this year for team RLL after the FE season is over. I also heard that Magnussen asked Chip Ganassi if he could find a sponsor for a 5th fulltime car for Magnussen. Exciting news!
Stroll ? His seat is secure with Aston Martin, I doubt he'll leave F1 so early. But I hope other former F1 drivers who can't get a first team seat in the series join Indycar in the near future like Hülkenberg, Kvyat, Albon, Vandoorne, De Vries (FE racer), Magnussen, etc.
You have so many passes here unlike in any of your races in F1. I guess there is more excitement here for both the drivers and the spectators. Great drive by the way.

A driver's series as opposed to a tech series. The fact that Indy is a kind of spec series has a lot to do with that. Though I do love F1.

Probably the first time in a long time I've been looking forward to Indy Car. Thanks Romain and Ericsson. Now if we could just get Stroll and Albon in Nascar and we'd be all set. WELL DONE ROMAIN!
It's been reported that Albon is already looking into Indycar with team Andretti next year, or one of the other teams. Latifi has also expressed interest in racing in Indycar. Antonio Felix Da Costa may drive in several races this year for team RLL after the FE season is over. I also heard that Magnussen asked Chip Ganassi if he could find a sponsor for a 5th fulltime car for Magnussen. Exciting news!
Stroll ? His seat is secure with Aston Martin, I doubt he'll leave F1 so early. But I hope other former F1 drivers who can't get a first team seat in the series join Indycar in the near future like Hülkenberg, Kvyat, Albon, Vandoorne, De Vries (FE racer), Magnussen, etc.
