Yeah, cast albums used to not really showcase acting as much as the singing, so they often don’t seem as into it compared to when those same actors do it live.

We had to do this musical for my school's play! Well... The actor that played Race forgot her cigar. (Yes, Race and a few of the other main characters were played by girls because most of the boys at our school hate theatre) So during this song, instead of panicking, she said, "Hey! WHERE'S MY CIGAR!?" Best improve during the entire show.
I keep forgetting this is the live version, not the studio recording, so now when I watch it I keep thinking “wow, it sounds just like it does in the soundtrack!”
Eventhough I love the studio recording, I found the live version to be way superior. I just love hearing the audiences reaction during the performances
