Omg can you imagine being haunted by a Christine? If she was feelin' feisty, she'd hide your running shoes (or use them!), eat your chocolate and protein bars and drink all your diet Dr. Pepper, but she might make supper and lower your grocery bill, so maybe it'd be a good thing?! 😆😆😆
1000000% appreciate the "what you can and cannot freeze info". I'm such a scaredy cat when it comes to putting things in the freezer, but I trust when you say it can be done.
Raw Broccoli can actually be frozen. A good tip is if it is in the freezer section most likely you can freeze it at home. we freeze things all the time for most produce just spread it out on a cookie sheet and put it in the freezer wait about 2 hours than take it out when its frozen and stick it in a ziploc bag and youre done. oh dont forget to label 😃
The big thing to remember when freezing is to make sure to wrap it well. I'll repackage things into meal size portions (if needed) and double or triple bag before freezing. I feel comfortable washing and reusing those bugs because they haven't really touched the food. Also important is keep track of what you have so you can use it in a timely fashion.
@@ourmodernhomestead2974 Most all frozen broccoli I have ever seen has been blanched prior to freezing. One way to tell is fresh raw broccoli is gray treen, and frozen is bright deep green. I may try freezing some fresh, but haven’t seen it ever that I knew of.
Pinwheels- memory lane, my mom was a single mom of 5, hard worker, but always made us breakfast. I love when you get your mom on camera to drop knowledge on food and diet. You can tell she really knows what she is talking about and I appreciate the info.
One time I had a huge cart full of groceries at Walmart and I didn’t realize I didn’t have my wallet until she had scanned everything 😫 thankfully I was able to use Walmart pay on my app but it was very nerve wracking!
I took my debit card out of my wallet for one reason or another and I bought a huge cart of food. I had to drive all the way home to get it and by the time I got back I was so done.
That kind of crap happens all the time to me!! Either my kid grabs the wallet or I leave it somewhere as I was paying a bill or buying something online. Walmart app and target app have saved me! Even Kroger has the app too
@@hplovinmama631 Yes! It was so hard to meal plan for a while there because you never knew what you were going to be able to find! And I was (and still am) only shopping once a week. So if I don't get it during that trip, unless it's a desperate need, I'm not going back to the store looking for it lol
Eating before you go shopping is easily the best tip I have ever found for saving money on groceries. I find that even going out to a reasonable lunch before the grocery store is cheaper than going to the store hungry. Also, don't take anyone with you if you can avoid it. I spend more time focusing on my kids or what my husband is grabbing than I do on what I want to buy and that gets overwhelming and causes tunnel vision and I miss all the deals.
No stores near me (40 mile radius) have clearance like that! Couple months ago I found where Walmart hides clearance deli sliced meat and cheese and rotisserie chicken. Next time I may get 3 or 4 chickens if they have them!
I try to stock up on rotisserie chickens when I see them marked down. I take the meat from the bones and freeze it. I then have meat for a quick soup, stew, pot pie, or chicken salad, etc. I haven't been brave enough (or had room in my freezer) to boil the bones for broth, but I have a friend who does that. I've found that you can freeze the clearance yogurt! Just stir it really well when you thaw and open it and even my husband says it's just fine. We also freeze those pillsbury cookie dough whenever the seasonal ones go on sale
I LOVE buying whole chickens and cutting them up myself. Once I cut all the retail cuts off I throw the rest into a slowcooker with some salt and acv, set on low for 24-48 hours and have a bunch of chicken broth. I used to freeze the broth but now that I've started pressure canning I'm going to can it to save freezer space. I do the same thing with vegetable scraps. I basically never have to buy broth or bouillon ☺️
That's funny. Everyone says that. Don't go to the store hungry, you'll buy everything, So I decided to do that once. I ate before going and got so sick when I was there I had to leave. Looking at food made me so nauseous, I couldn't shop. So now I go with an empty stomach so the food doesn't nauseate me. I have never bought anything I didn't go for. I have a mental list and that is what I get. Your mom is adorable. God Bless
Is there a Frugal Fit Twin? LOL That was hilarious! Mom did great on her explanation in regards to how donated food gets made into meals. Have a great day all!
You really have to check expiration dates on those canned biscuits. I learned (this summer, during quarantine) that if they are close to, or past the expiration date, they will shoot out of that can like a freaking rocket--you start to peel off the paper and the can is like, BAM--before you even press it with a spoon. It's borderline dangerous. The biscuits will still taste okay, but just be warned.
Great comments by your Mom. I am having to go to food pantries just now. I have to bring home what I have been given, and figure out how to meal plan with that food. Rice, beans, split peas, peanut butter, tuna are staples. They will throw in a couple of cans of pineapple for example that sometimes don't "go" with a meal plan, but can go into a smoothie mix, or I can make old fashioned "ice milk" (freeze the can of pineapple, put a cup of milk into the freezer for about an hour so it is it's coldest before freezing, put it into a blender with a dash of vanilla, and a couple of tablespoons of sugar, stevia, monk fruit sweetner, blend it up, and you have a soft serve "ice milk"). I have a relative who also has to make use of the food pantries, and I find we end up "trading" stuff around. I have been on the receiving end of a pack or two of "pig tails" that I don't mind using, but they found too much to handle. I had lots of dried beans, so rice and beans was was on my menu. Just wanted you to know that the struggle to meal plan from what is given to you at a food pantry is real.
I had to watch the mirror a few times because it made me laugh so much. Also I LOVE your mom and when she shares insight!! That blueberry spice sounded really good, it's always the same 3 flavors when I go but I'd like to try that one for sure.
What your mom said really resonated with me- it's something I've thought about for a while. I personally try to go for "the best of both worlds" between the two! I keep my pantry, fridge, and freezer well stocked with basics, so that whenever I see a good sale, I can take advantage and buy a lot and still make meals out of it, but I also meal plan for the month by coming up with meal ideas that use what i have in the house, but are also flexible (so I can potentially use sale items instead). It's a tricky balance to meet!
When your mom was talking about how stores or restaurants would meal plan based on leftovers reminds me that Wendy’s chili is made from leftover burger patties.
The sunflower crunch salad kits are AMAZING. OMG YOU CAN FREEZE CANNED BISCUITS 🤯. girl you ALWAYS change the game for me. Thank you!! Frugal fit MAMMA is awesome HELLO 👋 to her

Mom had some great insight about how things workbin the industry. I do think a lot of the best restaurants are going to start with the season and what is available and the menu is written around that. But if you are a big enough player in the game and need consistency of product like McDonald's then you not only control the food service but the production as well. So you farm and sell to your factory and sell to your franchisee to keep turning a profit at every step. And that helps you control both supply and demand.
Hi Christine! Love your vids been watching for some years now. Not sure if you knew this but I have a tip for picking out the freshest bagged salad. Select the one that is the least puffed up. Naturally, you would be inclined to select it like a bag of chips, but the opposite is true. As time goes on, gasses are released by the veggies, so a bigger bag indicates more gas, or more time from the pick date. I figured you would find this tip helpful and see if you notice this at the store. Cheers!
Ahh, I love a clearance haul! I feel like I found the deals myself. And wow, those are pretty low calorie for protein bars, may have to give them a try.

Good question at the end about the cheese wraps. Sadly I think the answer is that a lot of people dont want to take the time to do things like that. That is why precut veggies are so popular. Takes to much time to do the prep work. Crazy to think that way but....
Check Walmart meat second usually between 7 amd 8am, when the day shift starts. Meats that are on use by date get dramatic discounts. But they are gone quick. When you are there for any reason, just run by the meats and check use by dates. if there are things you need, show up early on those days for really good savings.

When we first set up our home in a new country, we bought an awful lot of reduced items. Still do, but rely on them less. It's a great way of trying out new foods that you've not had before. A few of our old favourite recipes started from trying to figure out what to make with something yellow stickered!

To your mom's comment, sure hope Fred Meyer gives their turkey and avocados to a food bank. Here in NYC, Fresh Direct (the biggest grocery delivery service) donates all their 'on the brink' food to Common Pantry (the largest food bank network). During lockdown we walked in a donation and there were at least 150 big boxes from Fresh Direct piled to the ceiling.

I clearance shopped today. I didn't even list specific fruits/veggies on my list. I just bought a few packages of clearance veggies. I also found clearance na'an and hawaiian rolls on clearance!
For years my Dad and I shared a business Sams membership. We would go super early in the morning when they first opened for businesses and head straight to the meat because that was when they put out the yellow sticker clearance meat. We would stock up.
Love buying marked down meat. I've had good success in asking the meat department if its possible for them to mark down even further if I buy a large quantity. I've never been told no! If you dont ask you won't receive! 😁
The Beyond sausages are so good!! I live in NYC so those 4 packs are usually more than $10. Grocery stores are so small here that clearance is pretty rare, the shelves get cleaned out pretty often

Have you tried receipt hog? You take pictures of your receipts and get points. Yes, you can get e-gift cards for Amazon
LOL - I had to go back and watch the beginning again because at first I thought that was your mom waving at us in the mirror!
I got $17.07 back with Ibotta yesterday at Walmart. Plus Chobani on clearance, and a big bag of granola on clearance for $2! Today is the Aldi's run.
When we first set up our home in a new country, we bought an awful lot of reduced items. Still do, but rely on them less. It's a great way of trying out new foods that you've not had before. A few of our old favourite recipes started from trying to figure out what to make with something yellow stickered!
Loved the goofing in the mirror , I learn a lot from you and always get a good laugh !! Keep up the great stuff and ty much for doing this for ALL of us ,, Jen says hi !! Lol
Awesome! Thank you!
OK...three things: 1) The mirror thing. Great job FREAKING ME OUT. LOL 2) I had NO idea that you can freeze the tubes of biscuits. Thank you so much for that knowledge! and 3) YOUR MOM! We love her!
I wanted to say that Flipp is a great app to use to find all of the grocery store ads for the week. They update it all the time and it shows you prices for the stores you shop at.
One nice thing about my state food is tax free. Wish we had a discount store!
I clearance shopped today. I didn't even list specific fruits/veggies on my list. I just bought a few packages of clearance veggies. I also found clearance na'an and hawaiian rolls on clearance!
You and your mom both have BEAUTIFUL skin!
For years my Dad and I shared a business Sams membership. We would go super early in the morning when they first opened for businesses and head straight to the meat because that was when they put out the yellow sticker clearance meat. We would stock up.
The mirror cracked me up!!!! I must say though, built bars are seriously AMAZING! They never disappoint!
What time of day/day of the week do you recommend going to Fred Meyer to find these deals??? I think I just miss them whenever I shop!
I shop clearance foods all the time. I have several clearance hauls on my channel. I hate food waste. I love shopping and feeding my family for cheap!
Love buying marked down meat. I've had good success in asking the meat department if its possible for them to mark down even further if I buy a large quantity. I've never been told no! If you dont ask you won't receive! 😁
May I ask what you define large quantity as when asking?
@@StudioRedArt Usually 10+ packages. I have really good luck at Target.
The Beyond sausages are so good!! I live in NYC so those 4 packs are usually more than $10. Grocery stores are so small here that clearance is pretty rare, the shelves get cleaned out pretty often
I'm a huge fan of Raos, nothing is better period.
We are minumum 45 mins from any stores except for the teenie tiny in town mini store. We also have no clearance stores within a couple hours of us. Add to that food allergies and that is where I am! I do however love your videos and your energy at times gets me up and moving a bit more! Your mom is probably a bit younger than I am but I love seeing her too, she is so cute! All of you are tho! You all have the most wonderful outlook on everything I have seen in a very long time. Thank you for sharing your family and days with us all!
Her in the mirror waving had me laughing so hard!!!!!!
That mirror thing in the intro was weird but cool!! Caught me off guard, I was sitting there like 😶.
The chocolate hummus freezes well and once frozen, you can chop it into chunks and add it to smoothies for chocolate flavour :)
I like the special effects you are working into your videos.
Hahahaha the mirror was hilarious! I miss living in a town where I could shop sales like this...living in a small town is amazing but shopping is not the cheapest! I love the chocolate humus! Yummy!
OMG BACKGROUND CHRISTINE! That made me spit out my tea LOL
Oh, also, the Beyond Meat sausages are LEGIT
I love your mom! She seems so real and no nonsense but so sweet.
Your mom shed some AWSOME light!
I love the intro with you waving lol. I had to watch it twice lol. And I also love a good clearance haul.
Tax is generally on processed food. Processed can include things like tuna packed in water ( that is considered a process)
I LIVE FOR THOSE STIR FRY KITS! I just recently started buying them anytime I find them on clearance
