This is true hunting. I’m a 63 year old great grandmother and this is my second favorite method of hunting. My first is ground hunting by calling them in vocally. Thank you so much! I learned a lot from your experience. Heading out again tomorrow. Hubby has gotten 2 bucks this year. I have been blessed with a doe and a buck. Gotta break the tie. I’ll be using some of your methods. God bless!
CATMAN, Thank you from East TN. I did a lot of reading/learning/watching plus a ton of scouting this year. I went from not killing a deer the first 5 years of my hunting, to killing a buck here in the mountains last Saturday, and a second one yesterday. Really appreciate the knowledge you’ve shared. The one I killed yesterday was 15 yds (I was stillhunting ). First thing I noticed was slight movement of his antlers as he fed. He never busted me and was totally calm when I shot him. 30-30, dead right there.
Picture perfect tutorial. Still hunting in the crunchy crunch is a snails pace event. One trick I use when trying to get into my stand quickly under such conditions is to drag a stick behind me as I go. This helps cover the singular crunch of each step by creating constant noise. You can wiggle the stick for extra effect and basically end up sounding like an armadillo. If you’re in an area with wild pigs, make a few snorting sounds here and there.
I alert deer of my presents in our canyon eastern okla. Outlaw Belle Starr lived in... deer would always know when ive started walking slow in. So I changed up the way I got to my stand ...by running down the hill.. stop get my breath . And start running and jumping . Breaking brush . And throw in a few snirts like a hog .. during the rut when bucks are running behind does this really works . And it keeps me in good shape as well..
@@christophersmith2102 I'm in Wisconsin I wish we had wild hogs here!! I'm missing out. I'm sure they couldn't survive the winters up here not much can.
Gotta say that the past two years I’ve been studying your videos and really enjoying the content. You are a big reason why I killed my first buck ever this year! I am addicted to this game! Thank you so much
This is the style of hunting I have to do in Southern Maryland. We can only archery hunt here or use a shotgun during "firearms" season. The public land I hunt doesn't allow you to setup a blind or tree stand overnight. So either I have to carry that all in the day I hunt or I just try to stalk deer. With only a bow or shotgun, I have to get within 50 yards or so of a deer to have a decent shot. This is VERY difficult in the leaves and sticks. But I think I am getting better and better each time I go out. Hopefully I get something soon!
You don’t need blinds and tree stands. Carefully find a natural feature downwind of sign close enough to bedding to get daylight shooting and conceal yourself. Stalking’s okay, but stillness and silence truly breed results in the long run.
If you ever wanted to use a stand I suggest a saddle. Love mine very mobile and versatile. I have used my platform to sit at the base of trees. I have used it to get out of the water in swamps. I have used my rope to drag deer. My entire setup weighs 9-14 lbs depending on if I bring 4 mini climbing sticks and my binos. About 3 lbs of that weight is on your hips making it so much better. The saddle itself, I call my hunting belt. I hunt every hunt with it whether I am going to use it or not. It has extra pockets and such for all the hunting stuff I carry. Highly recommend you check it out.
Great footage ,you gave as real as it gets exposition of what an evening in the deer woods with a seasoned hunter is like. Not much ever gets better than this footage.
Man o man!!! It don’t get no better than that! Thanks for the tag-a-long! Excellent video and pinpoint use of stalking skills!! Whitetail hunting at it’s finest!!!!!! Keep ‘em comin! Shoutout from Arkansas…..yeeeeehawwww!
I love days with plenty of deer movement even if you don't see a shooter. It's awesome to watch their movements and habits another great video Cat Daddy.
Love your channel. This video helped me kill the biggest buck of my life, still hunting in the hills. It was fresh in my mind as I was working my way down a ridge system and made a shot on a buck I've had on trail cams all season. Keep up the good work.
My cherry has been popped!... liked and subscribed. Now it's time to watch a few more before sleep. I love to still hunt and prefer it over stand hunting. Done right it's very productive, and seasons a hunter. I use binos and every time I can see something new I stop and scan. See them before they see you. I've screwed the deal many times though. Get close to the area I want to view, and rush in. It takes making those mistakes to learn from them and become better at what we do. Loved the video!
This is my favorite way to hunt deer. I'm strictly a ground hunter a blind is good but I absolutely love stalking especially when the rut is on !! I have 90 acres in Mississippi of 80%of it is mature hardwood the rest pine and cedar. Depending on rain or wind it might take me an hour or more to move 100 yards and at times you can have deer within 10 yard's or less and never see you. It gets the ol ticker thumpin!!! Awesome video brother it got you another subscriber from Mississippi.
I’m a Mississippian as well. I always thought “still hunting” was in a stand. Once I started actually “still hunting” I started seeing SO MANY more deer. Just get the wind right and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE doing it after a nice, soaking rain. It’s deadly.
Hear, hear! I once got 10’ from a spike buck hunting this way. I saw his spikes poking above a log, so I put a tree between us and carefully closed in. I had my buck limit, so this was just for fun; come to think of it, it’s ALL for fun! If it weren’t for hunting, my life would suck horribly.
Stillhunting is my favorite. My archery Roosevelt elk Oregon record man's friend call still hunting mano a mano, hand to hand combat. So groovy. I did not start hunting till my 40s I love it I've taken at least two blacktail bucks via legitimate stillhunting. It is hard. Takes patience. it works. good job here Catman. @@grdelawter4266 If you spent that much money and time then a dog shouldn’t be a problem. Even mature bucks will come back. Shooting them is unethical and downright disturbing.
With the title I thought you were trying to be funny about how you walk in the leaves, if there was any time to wear the crocs it would be now instead of the combat boots and then it's toe to heal with light pressure not putting your boot down in the leaves and rustling the leaves .I wouldn't call that stalking more like Tromping. Love you just saying, you got to be doing that intentionally can't be walking like that on purpose. LONG LIVE CATMAN!!
I practiced sounding like a turkey with just my mouth so could, well, have a “backup call “ as well as a cover for noise in the woods. However, as of now, I can’t honestly say that this helped me kill a deer; but, I did call in turkeys. Now, that right there is damn cool!
Spacing out your steps to sound like a four legged animal is another tactic when you can't move quietly. Walking like a deer sometimes gets them curious and they come Walking towards you.
Stillhunting (see the classic greats of North American hunting) is moving very slowly and deliberately until you spot game-before it spots you. It is behaving like a wary buck, or like a cougar/mountain lion. Generally, the hunter will take a few slow, deliberate steps and then stand or squat motionless for several minutes while scanning all surrounding areas for game. It is very demanding. It requires mental stamina and discipline. It does not take a lot of physicality. It is wonderful, Mano a mano, hand to hand, combat. --In my late 60s out in Oregon

Very cool!
great video
Good video
Let's see some trail cam photos.
Great footage. if only that buck had been a good 8 or 10 pt.
Why didn't you take that buck?
Dont tell us about a trail cam and not show what was on it
why didnt you shoot the buck
I wondered the same thing. He had a great shot at him.
Good eyes my dude.
Those boots aren’t made for stalking. My 91 year old uncle wears flat bottomed tennis shoes.
Damn dry leaves
That's crunchy.
Amazin shit bro
👍
I'm pretty sure that's the crunchiest leaves I've ever heard.
People need to keep their dam dogs tied up first day of rife season here dogs was running deer everywhere they are lucky
Man that sucked
I don’t where you live but it’s jail time here to shoot a dog
You call this "still hunting" but you're walking. You aren't "still." This is stalk hunting.
Stillhunting/stalk hunting are the same thing.
@@CatmanOutdoors - Lmao!!!! Maybe where you hunt being still and walking are the same thing... but they aren't where I hunt.
I’d of killed that dog. They make a beautiful shoulder mount.
Hunting with a rifle is not hunting!!!! The deer doesn't see you and has NO chance!!!! Bow hunt give the animal a fair chance!! Earn your meat......
😂
