Came back from a trip to the Glenrowan Tourist Park about a month ago. Apparently, a guy came down from Queensland just to see Turquoise Parrots and stayed for three days without seeing a single one. I was lucky enough to grab some photos in the first ten minutes of my arrival! Not very good photos, but photos nonetheless. I'm only 13, so higher priced gear is out of my price range, but I make do with my canon 100d and 250mm lens. Such a beautiful place, Glenrowan.

Gosh... coming down from Qld is quite the effort! And not getting to see them would have been a real downer!! Glad that you saw them though! We only had one night there and it was getting a bit close to the wire whether we'd see one either!! Glenrowan is a spot we definitely want to get back to & take better photos (hopefully) of the Turquoise Parrots. They are really stunning birdies!! 😃

Thoroughly enjoyed your repartee. Champagne birding is just my speed ;-) Seriously, though, it's amazing that you have less than a year's experience with photography, because the quality to these old eyes is top-notch.

Thank you so much Fritz 🙂 We watched a lot of youtube bird photography videos to learn settings which helped a great deal. Then it's the reactive moment to get the shots with our method of "spray & pray" to take as many shots as we can at that moment (we have missed so many!!!). And these digital cameras are quite fantastic!! And the zoom lenses with their stabliisation!! They are so much easier than film cameras which is the only cameras I used to know before these (I highly doubt I would have any bird shots with my old camera! haha! 😄)

Great stuff, now I know where I need to stop to see these birds on my next trip from Syd to Melb. Keep up the good work Karen and Nimal.

Thanks Roger! 😀 The Glenrowan Tourist Park is a great place to stay. The cabins there are basic but comfy & the one with the bird bath right in front is great to see all the local birds. Another spot to stay to see Turquoise Parrots is the Warby Ranges. There's a house you can rent called Kurringai Cottage which sounds really good (we haven't stayed there yet) but the parrots apparently visit the property.
So great to chat with you as we watch your videos too! You've been to some amazing places!! Just subscribed to you as well 😀

@@naturephotographychallenge thank you so much for the detailed directions. We are driving through there over Easter time. I’m hoping I can put aside 30 mins at the tourist park (hopefully you can just drop by and bird watch!) thanks for the feedback on my videos, great to chat to another RUclipsr , hopefully see you out there one day.

@@RogerMacKertich Unfortunately the Tourist Park doesn't allow people who are not staying at the park to enter the property. You could ask at reception but I doubt they'll let you have a wander around. I can see their point of view as it's a security issue for anyone staying there.

enjoyed the vid, entertaining, well done both, both of you are very natural in front of a camera ....Nimal, just a thought on shooting manual, - if you configure the camera for auto ISO in manual mode then all you have to worry about is setting your shutter speed on the rear dial really, start with the aperture wide open , close it down only when you want greater depth of field.......tbh, I find it easier than aperture or shutter priority - anyway great job

Thanks Cliff! Just wondering... do you find that the Olympus auto ISO tends to over compensate? What we are finding is that Nimal's auto ISO ends up jumping up very high & tends to over expose his shots? Karen

Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Those birds are gorgeous. I try to be a decent amateur photographer, and have quality cameras and good quality lenses that cost an arm and a leg.
The steadier the camera is at length the clearer the pics will be, so I always use a solid tripod, and I use a 70-400 lens.
I could not see what camera Nimal has. Maybe my old eyes missed it.
Letting us know the camera settings would be great and also the lenses used.
I'm still looking for the Paradise Parrot. Have you two seen one recently? :)
    Thanks again. I have subscribed.

Thanks so much Sam! Glad you enjoyed the video! Nimal has an Olympus OMD1 Markiii. He's only had it for one year & never took photos before this so he's learnt so much and has taken some amazing shots (even though he doesn't think they are). Our plan is to get him a really good tripod so next time we are taking photos in situ, he'll be able to take more video without hand shake. Karen

Love the champagne birding ! Btw, What month was this ? We went in Spetember last year and easily saw Turquoise parrots around the embankment on your left as you drive into the Toursit park office. I had also wanted to see Gang Gangs, but learnt it was the wrong time. They arrive lat May - into June.

@@zonabrown9241 Thanks Zona! I've taken your comments on board and have adjusted volume (we still need music as most of the background of our videos is annoying wind) and I've used softer more ambient music which is more calming (I think I like it better myself) and brought back a bit of the background sounds (which I also quite like now... as long as it gets rid of the wind noise... problems of filming outside!!) 🙂 I appreciate your comments!! Thanks K
