Ive been a sparks for about 15 years and never thought to use a rachet strap before!!! That 1mm T&E is no match for me now!!! Seriously though great vids.. i always get my apprentice to watch your vids for the tips

11:50 Tony, I think it might be time for a new safety vest! 👍🤠 Great job at that mess by yourself, ugh that makes for long days manhandling those cables.
I made a suggestion after reading your comment today and they have agreed to give me a nice shiny new vest. Im gonna get a couple made with my logo on too.
@@jointechcabling9103 First thing you need to do is take it to the job site and drop it in the dirt/mud. You can't look like the new guy! 😁👍 We would always give the guys with the new hard hats all the crap on the sites as we knew they were the newbies. Yeah the logo on there would look nice too.

I had a discussion with the supervisor, he said i can let you have someone to lend a hand. By the time id explained how i wanted to do the job to the other person i could have done it myself so i said thanks but im ok.
Beautiful Job Tony sorting out that mess but you just know that JCB is going to poke through at least one of your cables in the near future i believe the phrase is 'Get Tae Fook' or such like
You know when you watch stuff like car sos and they manufacture some bullshit situation just to add a bit of drama? This is the opposite of that. This is actual problems that need solving. 😂
They invent them for real due to the lack of experience of the design team🤣🤣. They think its a great idea until someone with a brain points out that they are thicker than shite.
Nah. Ive gotten to a stage where i can use mechanical means to get me through the day. Ratchet straps dont need paying or want any time off🤣🤣🤣 the company might be nice from time to time though.
@@jointechcabling9103if you're working in Edinburgh give me a shout, I normally do temporary power with nothing bigger than 240mm but would happily give you a hand for a day.
Hello, have you ever talked specifically about Al? Most electricians will only see Cu core, Steel Wire Armour but I know a lot of the bigger cable is Al cores and / or Al armour. How do you go about jointing that stuff?
Ive only ever done 5-6 aluminium core cables. Its pretty much the same proceedure as copper as i remember. The higher voltage stuff tends to be aluminium but im not qualified to deal with those voltages yet.
Im curious, do electrical contractors in the UK ever have their own in house cable jointers, or do they tend to sub that out? I do large commercial and industrial electrical work in the US. Here electricians pull the cable and terminate switchgear, transformers, distribution panels etc. Ie, there isnt really a distinction between cable joining and other electrical work. I do have to admit it makes sense that what Tony does would require separate licensing and certification. Ive met many electricians who rarely put their hands on anything bigger than installing lights, switches and receptacles.
Some companies do have jointers that work direct for them but most subcontract it out to people like me. I think it makes sense because you become specialised in your particular field and make a better job of it. Plus the tools are incredibly expensive.
About 50mm. Its an aluminium armour instead of steel. They are about the size of a 4cx95 or a 4cx120 depending on manufacture. Also they dont like to be bent🤣🤣
@jointechcabling9103 thanks, 50mm around is a big old cable! I'm not a spark so don't get the scale from the other sizes! Looks like mega hard graft though, top work!
@@richardlumley2581 the armouring has to be aluminium in a single core cable . Current would be induced into the armouring if it were steel and cause excess heat and losses into the earthing system . Cheers mate. Its takes a bit of hard work but the satisfaction at the end is worth it. Also the money is ok too🤣🤣🤣

Hope you got to keep those offcuts!

And I thought fitting an inverter to a truck was me being a bad man 👀… this is heavy 🤯 good job buddy 👍

@@jointechcabling9103 cheers mate thank you for taking the time to reply! 👍 have a nice weekend and safe journey back home bro. 👍
nice neat work tony not the best working outside in the mud
Thats a lot of work, working on your own. They are heavy cables to pull around.
It was heavy and, at times, frustrating, but i got it done and its good to feel a sense of achievement when its finished.

The one tip i can tell you working in Australia, when working in a trench fill the ground with hardcore, in the UK we never did this
Will definitely be dling this next time.

You’re earning your wage there mate. Plus a nice little weigh in from the off cuts 👌🏼👍🏼
The money was brilliant but the client takes the cut offs. Its not worth my job to take them without permission.
@@jointechcabling9103 100% mate.
You should purchase some comfy steel toe cap Wellingtons, look after your feet when working in wet condition.
I have done just that. They are really comfy and warm. Im now prepared for the winter weather.
Blimey Tony they do want you to struggle to make your money.
Not a lot you can do with those 630 mm cables .
Looking good so far 👍👍👍👍
They're all done now. It was a task but i wouldnt let them beat me.
@jointechcabling9103 nice one Tony 👍 👌
what a gash design! always site lads overcoming an engineers oversight.
Been saying this for years now. Clueless the lot of them, well, 90% of them
8:45 A bit more Scottish food and those trousers are splitting 😂
The wife said they were a bit snug. Theyre all elasticated. The material stretches. Theyre not like normal work trousers that im used to.

What the actual effing eff are they doing with that much power? 🤯 Jumpstart the Sun?
Everyone has said this. Its a 1600a breaker. Im not sure what the capacity of the gennie is.
Question - For a job like this, do you charge Price or Day Rate? Love the videos and love how easy you make it all look haha
I always charge a price per end. If i charged a day rate i wouldnt want to work past that amount. I try to avoid it coz its slows the job down.
Do you never have a labourer/mate?
Madness isn’t it, I take my hat off to him. Hard enough with a mate with you, I wouldn’t even attempt it on my own.
I’ve never done anything that big but I do like doing larger cables but it is serious graft! Fair play to the man.

Turning out to be a neat cableway. What is it? Mains, generator? Always nice to know.
Generator supply. Itll hardly be used and cost a bloody fortune to install. God knows how much the Generator itself cost.
